From there, we circle the big salt lake. The walk is mostly downhill, although we can’t avoid climbing a few hills. After 2½-3 hours of hiking through spectacular landscape with good chances to spot musk oxen, we will find ourselves at Garnet Rock. Now is the time to bring out our hammers and chisels and start our hunt for the semi-precious stones, garnets. In between the hammering, we’ll take a break to enjoy our sandwich. 28 aac.gl

The guide will share exciting stories, starting from the origins of the base, from WWII to the Cold War, into a modern international airport. The area around Kangerlussuaq has Greenland’s longest road and here we will experience and see several interesting places and meet the great Greenlandic nature. We’ll drive to the harbour to enjoy views of the beautiful fjord, past Kellyville, a small town for science and tour round the old base area.
