Huntington Harbour the 5 Islands + 1 by “JB” Griffin Huntington Harbour consists of five man-made islands + 1 if you add Sunset Isle which was in existence before the development of Huntington Harbor. When Huntington Harbour was developed the homeowners lost their backyard which was Sunset Bay Estuary Wetlands, In place of the Sunset Bay Estuary Sunset Beach Homewowners property was cut off with a block wall which still exists today where the former Sunset Bay Estaury started. The five islands of Huntington Harbour consist of Davenport, Trinidad, Humboldt, Gilbert, & Admiralty Huntington Harbour construction began in 1963 at a cost of some $200 million, with the harbors and peninsulas located on the former site of the historic Sunset Bay Estuary wetlands which of course was destroyed with the dredging and filling to develop the land for the new community of Huntington Harbour. Peter’s Landing Marina was made famous back in the day for the Red Onion Bar and Restaurant located in the Marina where singles from all over So Cal made the trip to Huntington Harbour to gather at one of the hottest bars in the 70’s and 80’. Red Onion is no more and the building is now occupied by Calvary Chapel of Huntingon Harbour. The Marina at Huntington Harbour provides complimentary two-hour guest slips on a first-come, first-served basis for mariners who enjoy waterfront dining at Pelican Isle. Huntington Harbour is well known for kayaking and paddleboarding enthusiasts. Rentals are available for a nominal fee along PCH at several locations as well as Duffy Boat Rentals. When in Huntington Harbour be sure to visit Peters Landings and dine or enjoy drinks at Pelican Isle for the best view waterfront dining in Huntington Harbour.
