Notes From the Archdiocese – Fr. Paul 

Archbishop Carlson wrote the Parish on September 

13 th : The Annual Catholic Appeal was a great success, 

despite the difficult economic situation…the Appeal 

raised over $13.6 million from over $59,000 households 

(Details were in last week’s St. Louis Review). You are 

to be commended for exceeding your published financial 

goal. 494 households contributed $66,823. “Please 

express my gratitude to your parishioners for their generous 

support of ACA…working together in this way, 

we practice Christian Stewardship and bring Christ’s 

love to our communities.” 

On that same date the Archdiocesan Safe Environment 

Program wrote: Seven Holy Founders is in compliance 

with the safe environment program for children as required 

by the USCCB (Bishop’s Conference) and 

agreed to by the Archdiocese of St. Louis. 

The Respect Life Apostolate sent a copy of the Respect 

Life Program provided by the USCCB. In keeping with 

Pope Benedict XVI’s plan for the Year of Faith the program 

has been designed as a resource for evangelization 

on key life issues. October is Respect Life Month 

and individual Parish events and the nationwide Life 

Chain begin October 7. The 36th Annual Respect Life 

Convention, “Alive in Christ” will be held at the St. 

Charles Convention Center. 

The Missouri Catholic Conference notes that the annual 

assembly titled Religious Liberty in the Public Square 

will be October 6 th at the Missouri Capitol. I have registration 

forms for this free program. The Archbishop 

asks us to send two Parishioners. Let me know if you 

are interested. 

The Office of the Vicar General notified us that the Parish 

Council Ministry Workshop will be held at the Cardinal 

Rigali Center on October 6 th . The workshop begins 

at 9:30am and ends at 3:30pm. Current Council Members 

who have not attended a workshop recently and 

those who are interested in being on the Council are 

asked to attend. Please notify me by September 27 th if 

you will join me for the day. 

Upcoming Dates: 

October 6 th and 7 th will be the Respect Life collection 

sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Special envelopes 

and an insert on the use of the monies collected 

will be included in the Sept 30 th bulletin. The Knights 

will also hold their membership drive October 7th. A 

Knight for 30 years, I look forward to welcoming new 

members as the Chaplain of our Council. The K of C 

Tootsie Roll Campaign is taking place at stores in the 

area and here at our Parish the weekend of October 

14 th . Mark your calendar for the Mass, Dinner-Dance, 

and Raffle to celebrate our 85 th Anniversary on February 

9, 2013.

THE YEAR OF FAITH 

"Pope Benedict XVI has proclaimed a 

Year of Faith beginning October 11, 2012, and ending on 

November 24, 2013. The Pope says, "This will be a good 

opportunity to usher the whole Church into a time of particular 

reflection and rediscovery of the faith" (Porta Fidei, n 4). 

The yearlong celebration will mark the fiftieth anniversary 

of the Second Vatican Council as well as the twentieth 

anniversary of the publication the Catechism of the 

Catholic Church. The opening date (10/11/12) marks the 

opening of the Council and the concluding date (11/24/13) 

celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King. This, too, is significant. 

Pope Pius XI instituted the Solemnity in 1925 to 

counter the rise of secularism and the growing threat of Nazism. 

This Year of Faith will be celebrated on various levels 

throughout the Church. At the National level, the Bishop's 

Conferences will focus on the quality of catechesis so that 

teaching the faith conforms to the Catechism of the Catholic 

Church. At the Parish level, the focus will be on celebrating

owner on the other end of a leash if you 

are inclined to run and play, or get easily

fly or slither for this special blessing!!!

40 Days for Life 

Sept. 26th-Nov. 4th 

You Can Help Save Lives! Beginning 

Wednesday, Sept 26 th - Nov 4th, our Parish will 

participate in the “40 Days for Life” campaign. We will 

be uniting with others in our city, in cities nationwide and 

in other countries, for a massive coordinated pro-life effort 

to fight abortion. Our efforts begin with prayer and 

fasting. You can pray individually, such as in your home 

or car, in a group, and at the abortion facility. Fasting can 

be in the form of giving up something that may separate 

you from God such as TV, caffeine or alcohol. The most 

visible part of the campaign is the peaceful prayer vigil 

outside the Planned Parenthood abortion facility at 

Forest Park and Boyle every day for 40 days. Our Parish 

is covering there from 1 pm to 7 pm on Saturday, Nov. 

3rd. (Just ½ a day!) Please consider signing up to be a 

Prayer Volunteer at Planned Parenthood. Look for more 

information about “40 Days for Life”, for prayer cards and 

for sign-up sheets in the back of church. Visit

Life Chain and Rosary for Life 

On Sunday, October 7 th all are invited to participate in 

the Life Chain. Participants from around the city will 

gather at various abortion-related facilities and other 

high-visibility locations. SHF parishioners will stand on 

the sidewalk in front of our Church and School, from 2 

p.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll stand side by side, “chain-like”, 

holdings signs with a Pro-Life message, to proclaim a 

silent, peaceful and prayerful witness for Life to those 

passing by on the street. At 3 p.m. in Church, following 

the Life Chain, we will pray a “Rosary for Life”. Please 

join us for either or both of these events. 

Anyone who wants to work 

in any capacity with children 

must be compliant 

with the Safe Environment 

Program before the activity 

begins. Compliance involves attending a Protecting 

God’s Children Workshop (schedule can be found at 

www.archstl.org , Protecting God’s Children, reading and 

signing the Code of Ethical Conduct and completing a 

Worker Registration form for a background check. 

SHF will be hosting a Protecting God’s Children 

Workshop on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:30pm in

Msgr. Philip J. Reily, a priest passionately involved in 

the respect life ministry for more than 50 years and 

founder of Helpers of God’s Precious Infants, will be the 

keynote speaker of the 36 th Annual Respect Life Convention 

at the St. Charles Convention Center on Sunday, 

Oct 28th. The day-long program begins with Mass at 

9:30am & offers a wide array of topics and speakers. Exhibits 

& workshops are free of charge. Tickets for the luncheon
