Vincent Sheppard has been designing and
manufacturing indoor and outdoor furniture
with exceptional seating comfort since 1992.
Our company is worldwide market leader
in Lloyd Loom furniture, a technique which
was invented in 1917 and which consists of
twisting Kraft paper around a metal wire and
weaving it into unique furniture pieces. We
build on a strong history and invaluable expertise
to keep on offering unique and timeless
designs that will last a lifetime. Next to
the famous Lloyd Loom weave, we also make
use of other durable materials which fit our
DNA of craftsmanship, quality and distinctive
design perfectly.
Today, our furniture is exported to more than
50 countries on six continents and the number
keeps growing. We are proud to say that
our furniture can be found in the most beautiful
hotels, homes and restaurants all over the
world.

A seat is made, a chair achieved
Our company started with the goal of honouring
and preserving the tradition and history of
the Lloyd Loom weaving technique.
To accomplish this goal, we have developed
a close collaboration with the local people of
Cirebon, Indonesia. Known for its tradition
in weaving and bending rattan, Cirebon was
the perfect area to build our main production
plant. The knowledge and skills of the local
craftsmen elevate our products to pieces of
art, each and every one of them handcrafted
to perfection. Through the years, we have
extended our product range with other natural
and durable materials such as rattan, oak, and
beech.
Our designs are made in Belgium and that’s
exactly where they are finished as well, the
way we imagined them at first. To complete
the circle. With a lot of care and eye for detail.

The beauty of natural

From the beginning, we have made a clear
choice to work with natural resources as
much as possible for the production of our
furniture. The beauty of natural products
forms the base of each of our designs.
Additionally, we are convinced that companies
have a responsibility that goes beyond
the product itself. Protecting the environment
and improving working conditions is a matter
of course for us. Moreover, we are keen on
organising our company with an ecological
mindset. We are very conscious about the
consumption of resources. Recycling, the
cleaning of wastewater and use of ecological
cleansing products are standard procedures
at Vincent Sheppard. Our headquarters in
Belgium are nearly self-sustainable as we
use solar energy to provide electricity for our
production process.
In 2013, Vincent Sheppard received the
FSC-label by the Forest Stewardship Council:
a symbol of environmental, social and economic
sustainability.

Vincent Sheppard is first and foremost known for its expertise in the traditional Lloyd Loom weaving technique.
However, besides Lloyd Loom weave, Vincent Sheppard is using many other durable materials such
as rattan, wood, and steel to create beautiful and unique pieces of furniture.
As durability and quality are firmly anchored in our company DNA and we want to make the most of nature’s
resources that we use in our furniture, we want to help you keep your furniture in excellent shape
for years and years to come. To enjoy your furniture for as long as possible and be able to pass it on to
the next generation, it is essential to treat your furniture with care. Don’t get us wrong: there’s no need to
clean your furniture every few weeks with expensive products or complicated techniques! It is however
key to understand the characteristics of the materials that you own to ensure a long and happy life for your
furniture.
LLOYD LOOM
Paper and steel: that’s all it is!
Lloyd Loom weave is made from twisted Kraft paper on the one hand, and Kraft paper spun around a steel wire on the other
hand. With just the twisted paper as the warp, and the steel and paper combination as the weft, Lloyd Loom is produced on
rolls in just the same way as textiles. The Loom sheets are submerged in a bath of glue to ensure the firmness and are then
cut to the proper size. Subsequently, our highly skilled craftsmen shape and staple the loom sheets to the rattan or wooden
furniture frames by hand, thus producing a smooth and attractive finish that will, unlike normal wicker, not snag clothing
or skin. Finally, each piece of furniture is painted in any of the Vincent Sheppard loom colours or in a RAL colour of your
choice. Our Lloyd Loom furniture can easily be maintained with a moist towel and some natural, mild soap.
RATTAN
Unique, durable and ecological beauty.
As the growth cycle of rattan is significantly shorter than that of wood, rattan is a very durable material to work with. It’s
considered as being ecological and sustainable since no pesticides or fertilizers are needed for cultivating rattan, it’s CO2
neutral thanks to its rapid growth, and it’s recyclable. Moreover, rattan grows best under some sort of tree cover and as
a result, rattan planting indirectly protects tree cover and forests. On top of that, rattan is a very flexible material with
distinct characteristics, thus allowing to create beautiful, unique and solely handcrafted designs with it. It’s therefore no
wonder that rattan is one of the favourite materials at Vincent Sheppard to work with. As a bonus, rattan is easy to maintain:
clean it every now and then with a moist towel and some natural soap, and you’ll be able to enjoy it for many years to
come!
WOOD
Don’t be mistaken: it’s a living thing!
At Vincent Sheppard, we work with multiple types of wood, including oak wood and beech wood. It is essential to realize that wood is
a natural material with its own characteristics. Variations in wood grain, colour, knots and other naturally occurring characteristics are
inherent to solid wood. We believe that these imperfections will only contribute to the charm of your table. As wood is a natural product,
it will react to influences from its environment. Therefore, it is perfectly possible and perfectly normal that your table changes over time.
Because wood is a living product, you should however take in mind some precautions to ensure it will last as long as it is meant to.
STEEL
No need for nerves of steel.
Keep your furniture in excellent shape for
years and years to come
Oak:
Oak is a beautiful and strong type of wood with a lovely natural grain. However, as most wood types, oak absorbs
and releases humidity throughout the years. Constant changes in temperature and humidity create internal tension
and can cause wood to start moving. This can, among other things, bend the wood or lead to cracks. We would
suggest avoiding exposure to extreme temperatures or temperature fluctuations. Ideally, the humidity in the room
should be between 40 and 60%. Using placemats to prevent hot pots, pans and cold glasses or bottles from leaving
marks on the furniture is an excellent idea. Since the colour of oak wood will change slightly over time, it’s suggested
to move objects placed on the furniture from time to time to avoid colour differences.
Our oak furniture is either oiled or varnished. Depending on the finish, you’ll need to consider other recommendations
for the maintenance of your table.
OIL:
Our oiled tables have a pigmented oil finish which forms a natural coating, repelling
most common substances and fluids. Nevertheless, it’s no foolproof guarantee
against stains. We recommend removing any spilling immediately to prevent staining.
Use a moist towel or sponge with a mild solution of water and natural, non-aggressive
soap. Make sure your towel or sponge is not too wet!
When the wood starts to feel dry or is stained, we recommend using an oil or liquid
wax cleaner for periodic maintenance of wooden floors. Do not use this product
daily. Oil and liquid wax cleaner are no guarantee against stains, but they often do
the trick and it surely doesn’t hurt to try!
Through time and depending on wear, the original hardwax coating on the furniture
may need to be renewed. Make sure the surface is clean and dry. Then sand the furniture
using extra fine sand paper (minimum 320 grit) and work in the direction of
the wood grain. Next, apply a new hardwax oil. These products can be purchased
at a flooring specialist.
VARNISH:
Our varnished tables are finished with a high performance, water-based, polyurethane
lacquer for the protection of the wood, which has an excellent chemical and
mechanical resistance. Regular cleaning with a mild solution of water and natural
soap will do the trick! Please do not sand varnished furniture, as this will damage
the protective layer and will thus affect the water and dirt resistance of your furniture.
Beech:
Beech wood is a strong, fine-grained wood. Its grains are less characteristic than those of oak, and that’s why we
mainly use beech wood for painted legs and frames at Vincent Sheppard. Beech is not as absorbent as oak wood,
and since we use it in smaller assembly parts rather than for whole table tops for example, it is significantly less
likely to crack or warp.
A quick wash every now and then with a moist towel and some natural soap should be sufficient to keep your
beech wood furniture as new!
As trends have developed, steel has become more and more important in our designs. Luckily, this material is basically care free! Steel
is mainly used for the legs and frames of our furniture pieces. Clean your armour with a moist towel and some natural soap!
