Osteospermum
BRIGHT LIGHTS Osteospermum will be some of the first
flowers you’ll see at garden centers since they easily tolerate
cool Spring temperatures. They are also some of the only
Osteospermums that thrive in the heat of the Summer, giving
you bright, colorful blooms all the way from Spring through Fall.
Their mounded habits help hold the daisy like flowers upright
for great flower presence at retail and in the garden.
Notes:
Cooler temperatures and high light in production are best
for highest quality crops - especially for Spring bud set and
branching.
» Scout crops regularly (at least once a week) for disease development.
» Good air circulation, control of humidity, and good sanitation practices are critical. Good sanitation practices include keeping greenhouses clean at all times,
eliminating weeds and debris, disinfecting equipment and greenhouses as often as possible, and keeping hose ends off the floor.
» Removing the buds and flowers at transplant isn’t necessary but can be beneficial.
» Treat with a preventative broad spectrum fungicidal drench at 1-2 weeks after transplant.
» Pinch at transplant, if needed. If plants are pinched use a preventative fungicide spray to preclude disease formation. Florel ® at 500 ppm can be used instead
of pinching. 5-10 ppm Sumagic ® can be used to control growth if needed. Check manufacturer’s labels for approved rates and usage recommendations. Cold
temperatures can also be used for growth regulation.
