Hundreds of thousands of revelers
This year's event is the first such
the festival will target the far-right
At Carmelitas, one of Rio's most
‘Store nation’s
Gadkari
New Delhi, Mar 04: Lamenting that
his out-of-box proposals often find no
takers, Union minister Nitin Gadkari
Sunday voiced another such idea: make
urea from urine.
If it is done, India will not need to
import fertiliser, he claimed, addressing
a gathering of young innovators at the
Mayor Innovation Awards function of
the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
Talking about importance of innovation,
he gave the example of how bio-fuels can
be extracted from natural waste.
Even human urine can be useful for
making a bio-fuel and it can also yield
ammonium sulfate and nitrogen, he said.
"I have asked for storage of urine at
airports. We import urea, but if we
start storing urine of entire country
then we will not need to import urea, so
much potential it has, and nothing will
be wasted," the minister said.
me because all my ideas are fantastic,"
the minister, known for his outspoken
ways, said.
Facebook is
finally bringing
'Clear History'
privacy feature
this year
Facebook's long-awaited privacy tool --
"Clear History", which would let users
erase their information collected by
Facebook from third-party apps and
websites, is now scheduled to come out
later this year.
The information was announced
by David Wehner, Facebook's Chief
Financial Officer (CFO) at the Morgan
Stanley Technology, Media and
Telecom Conference being held in
Barcelona, the media reported.
The "Clear History" feature was first
announced in May 2018 and was described
as "a simple control to clear your
browsing history on Facebook -- what
you've clicked on, websites you've visited,
and so on", by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
However, Wehner is concerned that
the feature would impact Facebook's
ability to target ads to audiences since
the social networking giant collects
data based on the user's location and
preference history.
"We want to make sure this works
the way it should for everyone on
Facebook, which is taking longer than
expected," BuzzFeed News quoted
Facebook as saying last week.
The testing of the tool is being
planned to begin somewhere between
March and May.
"Clear History" was proposed by
Zuckerberg in reaction to the company's
Cambridge Analytica scandal last
March and was announced publicly
when it just an idea, the media reported.
will not help, because in government,
people are trained to be like (blinkered)
bulls who walk in the rut, not looking
here and there," he said.
Some years ago, Gadkari had created a
flutter by saying that he stored his own
urine and used it as fertiliser for the
garden at his official bungalow in Delhi.
Speaking at the function, he also
gave the example of use of amino acid
extracted from human hair waste,
which can be used as a fertiliser.
It boosted production at his farms by
25 per cent, he claimed.
Because he could not get adequate
hair in Nagpur, he had to purchase "five
trucks of hair" from Tirupati (where
devotees shave their head which are
later sold) every month, Gadkari said.
"We are selling amino acid abroad
and have order of about 180 containers
of bio-fertiliser from the Dubai
government," the Union minister, who
controls Purti Group of Industries, said.

Uttarakhand is promoting ‘GHOST tourism’
Uttarakhand offers both – the beauty
and the beast. As beautiful as its
settings are, the haunted stories
surrounding it might sent chills
down your spine. Uttarakhand has
always been one of the popular tourist
destinations for various reasons, but
then, these days haunted spots are also
drawing crowds. In fact, interest in the
same has been so overwhelming that
the state government also went ahead
to promote ghost tourism in this region.
The place has its fair and good share
of spooky places, cemeteries and
legends. Also, the best and spooky
ones are those from the mountains,
surrounded by folklore to authenticate
their base. So, if you are up and ready
to experience the chills, read on.
Abbey Bungalow, Lohaghat
Lohaghat, located in Champawat
district of Uttarakhand, is dubbed
as one of the spookiest places in
India. There is this famous, or rather
infamous, bungalow on Abbot Hill,
known as the Abbey Bungalow,
where people have repeatedly sensed
mysterious activities. The said
bungalow is popular for its hideous
Mukti Kothri, where several people
were killed during mid-1900s.
After this bungalow was built, the
owner lived in it with his family for a
long time, and later on, donated this
place for building a hospital, wherein
the twist in the story comes.
Initially, the hospital used to stay
full of patients as it was run on
charity, while other features like clean
atmosphere and good medical facilities
also led to its popularity. However, the
reputation of this place changed after
a doctor joined the place. It is said that
he had the power to see into the future,
and predicted people’s’ deaths!
As such, when any new patient was
admitted into the hospital, the doctor
would pay him a visit and predict
whether he was going to live or die.
In fact, he would go to the lengths of
predicting the exact date when the patient
will supposedly die, and thus, before
those few days of the predicted said date,
the patient was sent to Mukti Kothri, a
special ward called room of freedom.
Locals believe that the doctor actually
had no special powers, but would kill
a patient every time just to prove his
prophecies were right. It is now believed
that the souls of those killed patients
have cursed this place and move around
the place. People don’t dare to venture
into this place after dark.
Mullingar Mansion
This mansion was built in 1825 by
an Irishman by the name of Captain
Young. He lived there till the time
Israeli carrier
Arkia to have direct
flights from Goa,
Kochi to Tel Aviv
NEW DELHI: Connectivity between
India and Israel is all set to improve
with Israeli airline Arkia going to start
flights from Tel Aviv to Goa and Kochi
from September 28. At present, El Al
has a thrice-weekly Mumbai-Tel Aviv
nonstop and Air India has five times a
week direct on Delhi-Tel Aviv route.
According to Israel Tourism, Arkia
will operate its 220-seater single-aisle
Airbus A321 LR (long range) to fly
nonstop from Tel Aviv to Goa and Kochi.
“Arkia will fly once a week to Goa on
Tuesdays and twice a week to Kochi on
Mondays and Fridays. From October
27, 2019, the flight to the latter city will
move to Sundays and Thursdays. The
air travel will run all year round except
during the monsoon season in India,”
Israel Tourism said in a statement.
The increased connectivity comes as
Israel recorded 21% growth with 70,800
Indian tourist arrivals to the country in
2018, up almost 21% from 58,700
travellers in 2017. India is now the 12th
biggest source market for Israel.
the British surrendered and left. And
after that, Captain Young retired
from service and returned to Ireland.
However, it seems that he has not
really abandoned the place. His spirit,
in fact, can be seen roaming around
the Mullingar mansion during full
moon nights. People believe that the
spirit belongs to no other than Captain
Young, who keeps revisiting the
mansion that he built and once called
his home.
The place, where the mansion was
built happened to be lively once, and
now stands there pale and lifeless.
While some people don’t believe in
these stories and say it’s nothing but
an illusion, others disagree as they
have their own side of the story, of
encountering the spirit in real.
The haunted house in Jabarkhet
Situated in Jabarkhet, there is a
supposedly haunted house that
anybody will point you towards.
Security guards choose not to stay here
as there have been ghost sightings in
the past. People say that they have
heard ghosts moaning during the late
hours. Rumors have it that a loving
couple used to live in that house
around 70 years ago. One day, the wife
died and the husband too went missing.
Some believe that the husband might
have killed the wife and then himself,
and now their spirits linger around the
place.
10 strengths that make the
Rafale a key addition to
IAF’s fleet
India on Friday signed the much-awaited deal with France to buy
36 Rafale fighter jets worth Rs 59,000 crore (7.87 billion euro). The
deal is crucial for the Indian Air Force as it will.
Equipped with latest missiles and
weapon systems, Rafale, the "gust
of wind" and "burst of fire”, is well
known for its air supremacy, in-depth
and anti-ship strikes and nuclear
deterrence missions.
India on Friday signed the muchawaited
deal with France to buy 36
Rafale fighter jets worth Rs 59,000 crore
(7.87 billion euro).
The deal is crucial for the Indian Air
Force as it will give India a dominant
status in the air.
Here are some key factors that
put the jet’s strength into better
perspective:
1. Available in three main variants,
viz., the land-based Rafale C singleseat
and Rafale B twin-seat versions
and Rafale M single-seat carrier-based
versions, the Rafale has been used in
combat over Afghanistan, Libya, Mali,
Iraq and Syria.
2. The Rafale can touch speeds of Mach
1.8 (1,912 km/h) in high altitude and
Mach 1.1 (1,390 km/h) in low altitude.
The Rafale C, Rafale B and Rafale
M variants can carry loads of 9,850
kilograms, 10,300 kilograms and 10,600
kilograms respectively.
3. Great emphasis has been placed on
pilot workload minimisation across
all operations. Among the features
of the highly digitised cockpit is an
integrated direct voice input (DVI)
system, allowing a range of aircraft
functions to be controlled by spoken
voice commands, simplifying the pilot's
access to many of the controls.
4. The Rafale can carry more ordnance
than any of its competitors, hands
down. By contrast, the F-35 can carry
only 4 munitions (e.g. missiles) while
in its stealthy mode; the F/A-18E/F
Super Hornet and the F-16 can carry
only 11, and the Su-35 twelve.
5. The Rafale has the biggest gun on the
market, equally placed with Sukhoi
aircraft. It is laced with a hefty 30mm
GIAT gun firing incendiary rounds.
This makes the Rafale an excellent
choice for both air to air and air to
ground combat, as its 30mm rounds
would provide excellent support for
troops on the ground.
6. The Dassault Rafale is a relatively
small, light airplane, which makes
its wing loading ratio (the ratio of its
weight compared to its wingspace) just
306 kg/sq m, the second lowest ratio on
the market after the JAS-39 Gripen. Its
combat radius is also impressive – 1,852
kilometers, again, the second-best in
the market trailing only the F-15C/D.
The Rafale also has an excellent rate of
climb – 304 m per second, which means
the plane can climb to its service
ceiling (55,000 ft) in a minute.
7. Its speed of Mach 1.8, compared to
Mach 2 or more for most other fighters
could be one let down, but it fares
better when compared to its principal
competitor, the F-35, which is much
worse at just Mach 1.61. This, however,
is the product of a deliberate design
aimed to optimise the Rafale for close,
within visual range combat.
8. Rafale jets will come equipped with
state-of-the-art missiles such as the
Meteor and Scalp. With these missiles,
Rafale will be a big strategic weapon
under IAF’s umbrella. The Rafale
is equipped with an RBE2 passive
electronically scanned radar developed
by Thales and has both look down and
shoot down capabilities.
9. The Rafale engine features several
advances including a non-polluting
combustion chamber, single-crystal
turbine blades, powder metallurgy
disks, and technology to reduce radar
and infrared signatures.
10. According to Dassault, the Rafale
has sufficient low speed performance
to operate from STOBAR-configured
aircraft carriers, and can take off using
a ski-jump with no modifications.
However, industry sources have
highlighted the high cost its
operational cost, which hovers above
the Rs 11 lakh range for every flighthour.
Fashion week is
back with a bang
It’s that time of the year when fashion
week is all set to take over the capital
with its 33rd edition. The fashion
extravaganza that starts from March 13
to 18, Lotus Make-up India Fashion Week
AW ’19 in association with Liva will take
place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in
Delhi. Organised by the Fashion Design
Council of India (FDCI), the fashionable
week will see more than 100 designers
participating with runway shows and
stalls. The last two days are reserved
for FDCI Designer Stockroom sale, a
much-anticipated phenomenon where
anyone could buy stuff for great prices
and get great deals on designer stuff.
This season, the shows will commence
with a showcase by four designers —
Rina Dhaka, Sahil Kochhar, Samant
Chauhan and Shalini James — that will
highlight that fashion can be consumed
consciously. Called the LivaEco Green
Heart Show, it’ll promote eco-friendly
fashion and will show people the way to
move towards fashion choices that are
not hazardous to the environment. “As
the world is getting conscious about
what we eat, wear and speak, this season
we combine the elements integral to
human existence to create a concept that
supports conscious consumption. We will
celebrate invisible voices and maestros
by curating a blueprint for the future,”
says president FDCI, Sunil Sethi.
Genes may play role in
happy marriage
Happily married? Thank your genes,
say scientists who have identified a
genetic variation in the ‘love hormone’
oxytocin that influences long-term
happiness in a marriage.
Published in the journal PLOS
ONE, the study examined the role of a
genetic variation that affects oxytocin,
a hormone that plays a role in social
bonding. Lead author Joan Monin,
associate professor at the Yale School
of Public Health in the US, and her
team studied 178 married couples
ranging in age from 37 to 90 years old.
Each participant completed a survey
about their feelings of marital security
and satisfaction, and also provided a
saliva sample for genotyping.
The research team found that when at
least one partner had a genetic variation
known as the GG genotype within the
oxytocin gene receptor, the couple
reported significantly greater marital
satisfaction and feelings of security
within their marriage. Those couples had
greater satisfaction compared with other
couples who had different genotypes.
While the oxytocin receptor variant,
OXTR rs53576, has been previously
studied and linked to personality traits
such as emotional stability, empathy,
and sociability, the new study is
believed to be the first to examine its
role in marital satisfaction.
“This study shows that how we feel in
our close relationships is influenced by
more than just our shared experiences
with our partners over time,” said Monin.
“In marriage, people are also influenced
by their own and their partner’s genetic
predispositions,” she said.
The researchers also found that
people with the GG genotype reported
less anxious attachment in their
marriage, which also benefitted their
relationship. Anxious attachment is
a style of relationship insecurity that
develops from past experiences with
close family members and partners
over the life course, and is associated
with diminished self-worth, high
rejection sensitivity, and approvalseeking
behaviour, said Monin.
The researchers said that an individual’s
GG genotype and their partner’s GG
genotype together account for about 4%
of the variance of marital satisfaction.
Although this percentage is small, it
is a significant influence considering
other genetic and environmental
factors to which couples are exposed.
The findings may lead to future studies
to examine how couples’ genotypes
interact to influence relationship
outcomes over time. Another important
future direction for study will be to
examine how the OXTR rs53576 variant
interacts with specific negative and
positive relationship experiences to
influence relationship quality over
time in a large representative sample of
married couples, said Monin.
Child abuse row: BBC radio
drops Michael Jackson's music
Michael Jackson has been dropped
from BBC Radio 2’s music playlists.
Ahead of the release of documentary
'Leaving Neverland', which details
new child sex abuse claims, it’s being
reported that the decision not to have
any of the King of Pop’s songs played
on the station was made last week.
According to The Times, the last
time a solo Jackson track was played
on Radio 2 was last Saturday (24
February). The BBC said: “We consider
each piece of music on its own merits
and decisions what we play on different
network are always made with relevant
audiences and context in mind.”
Leaving Neverland – a two-part
documentary – will air on HBO and
Channel 4 this week. Its subjects
Wade Robson and James Safechuck
accuse Jackson of grooming, sexually
assaulting and raping them as children.
Oprah Winfrey has taped an interview
with both Robson and Safechuck, as
well as director Dan Reed, which will be
broadcast in the US immediately after
the documentary airs on 4 March.
Speaking to CBS This Morning, Robson
told Gayle King he visited Jackson’s
Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara
County as a child and thought it was “the
most magical thing” he had ever seen.
The Jackson estate has denounced
the documentary, saying the accusers
“have provided no independent
evidence and absolutely no proof in
support of their accusations.”
Robson said Jackson invited him to
stay over, first with his family, then by
himself.
“Within either the first or second
night of Michael and I being alone
at Neverland, the nights started
changing,” he said.
“One of the ways I remember it
starting is Michael sort of starting to
touch my legs and touch my crotch
over my pants. It performed to him
performing oral sex on me, him showing
me how to perform oral sex on him.”
The Jackson estate has denounced
the documentary, saying the accusers
“have provided no independent
evidence and absolutely no proof in
support of their accusations.”
in wake of Steven
Spielberg's proposed
Oscars ban
Spielberg wants films on streaming
services to compete at the Emmy
Awards rather than the Oscars,
according to IndieWire.
Netflix defended itself in the wake of
reports that legendary film director
Steven Spielberg was campaigning to
exclude the streaming service from
eligibility at future Oscars ceremonies.
Spielberg was planning to ask for
a rule change that would prevent
streaming services like Netflix, Hulu
and Amazon from competing in the
Oscars at an upcoming annual board of
governors meeting at the Academy of
Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The
Los Angeles Times reported.
Spielberg wants films on streaming
services to compete at the Emmy
Awards rather than the Oscars,
according to IndieWire, which first
reported Spielberg's stance.
“Steven feels strongly about the
difference between the streaming and
theatrical situation,” a spokesperson
for Amblin, Spielberg's production
company, told IndieWire.
In what appeared to be a response to
these reports, Netflix's film account
tweeted on Sunday a list of defenses for
the streaming service.
There has to be war against terror, not
Actor John Abraham on Monday
said there should be a takedown
on terrorism and not a war with a
The actor was asked about the
escalating tension between India and
Pakistan post Pulwama attack.
"There has to be a war against terror,
not against a country, religion, religions
or between religions. I am very clear in
my outlook. I (will) probably get picked
on, but I am not going to sit on the fence
The actor said he was not the one to
150 Drones shoot Brahmastra in the Kumbh Sky.
Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and director
Ayan Mukerji revealed the logo for
their upcoming film Brahmastra in a
light and sound show at the Kumbh
Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
About 150 drones were launched to
form various displays, including the
Indian flag, the film’s title and its logo
in the sky. A small puja was also held
to commemorate the occasion.
Director Ayan Mukerji also made
his Instagram debut and shared a
comic book-style rendition of a couple
embracing each other. He captioned it:
"We love cinema. Here are some things
we also love:
-Access for people who can't always
afford, or live in towns without,
theaters
-Letting everyone, everywhere enjoy
releases at the same time
-Giving filmmakers more ways to share
art
These things are not mutually
exclusive." - tweeted Netflix's film
account.
The tweet mentioned equal access to
films for those in rural or low income
areas, simultaneous release times, and
a platform for filmmakers to share
their work.
"These things are not mutually
exclusive," the tweet said.
Netflix did not immediately return
a request for comment made by NBC
News. NBC News was not immediately
able to reach Spielberg
to be over and done with. That doesn't
mean you have to fight with another
country. That doesn't mean you have to
stereotype people," he said.
But today the problem is that the
world is getting "polarised", he added.
"We are stereotyping people, that's
probably the most dangerous sign. It
shouldn't happen. But that's the way
the world is functioning today."
The 46-year-old actor was speaking at
the trailer launch of his upcoming film,
Romeo Akabar Walter (RAW).
The espionage thriller, directed
by Robbie Grewal, also stars Mouni
Roy, Jackie Shroff and Sikander Kher
among others.
It's scheduled to be released on April 5.
“Part 1: Love”.
A fantasy adventure, Brahmastra is
part of a trilogy. It has been backed by
Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and
stars Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and
Amitabh Bachchan. Ayan had earlier
said, “It’s a modern-day film set in
India as it exists today. But the reason
it’s called Brahmastra is because the
energies, wisdom, powers in the film
come from ancient India. That’s all I
would say. There are some costumes,
may be not the way you’d expect them
to be.”
Art exhibition Tales of Two Cities open at Assagao
Art exhibition Tales of Two Cities opened curated by Kirti Parihar & Samira Sheth at The Project Café
in Assagao on March, 1st. Don't miss. Till April!
Six artists from two cities - busy,
crowded Ahmedabad and the tiny
metropolitan state of Goa come together
in this multi-threaded exhibition.
Says Samira Sheth, “The universal
language of art threads these overt
differences between these varied places
and artists into a unifying common
understanding of the human experience.
The flow of people, the generation
and regeneration of ideas and ways of
expression lead to a constantly changing
artistic landscape. Multiple creative
possibilities unravel from a host of works
that surprise and delight, provoke and
disturb. These unique forms of expression
are the stories we want to tell.”
Six artists from Ahmedabad and Goa
tell their stories through diverse media
– using watercolour, oil, colour pencil,
thread and even newsprint.
Alpesh J Dave from Ahmedabad pays
tribute to iconic artists, in thread images
of Dali, Rene Magritte and Jackson
Pollock. In another small format work
he leaves threads hanging to hint at
the constantly evolving and therefore
unfinished state of an artist’s ideas.
Goan artist Liesl Cotta De Souza also
uses thread to paint. Her subject is
women as they work and play. Layered in
colour, perspective and emotion, these are
everyday stories of struggle and pleasure
told through embroidery on textile.
Manish Modi from Ahmedabad takes
a childhood spent with newsprint, his
father had a newspaper agency and
Manish even sold the occasional paper, to
paint on the daily medium of newspaper.
Animals feature in Ahmedabad based
Purvi Parmar’s colour pen and acrylic
paintings. The young artist creates space
for her ‘self’ in imagined worlds atop the
bustling cityscape of Ahmedabad. She
images sheep, a couple of slender deer
and a peacock in full form as central
figures in these fantastical universes
created entirely by her.
Laila Vaziralli from Goa finds
inspiration in nature too with a series
of dreamy watercolours. Her women
protagonists play with the rain and
reclaim what is rightfully theirs (and
ours too) – a free and healthy natural
environment to just ‘be’ in?
As guardians and custodians
of nature, humanity is in need
of protection itself. Ideas of the
sacred abound in Sonia Rodrigues
Sabharwal’s portraits of Gods and
Goddesses of Goa in mixed media
works on canvas. Strongly rooted in
Goa, Sonia invokes the spirit of its
deities for succor.
With their highly individualistic
thought process, each artist presents
a story worth heeding. Says Samira
Sheth, “Even though they seem such
disparate stories one realizes that
everything is indeed connected ––
somehow all these visuals coalesce to
bring very different tales from two very
different places to life.”
It's not cool to
drink on Beaches
and public places
in Goa anymore
We run to Goa whenever we want to
lead a liberated few days without a
care in the world. It’s a place to party,
to laze around on the beaches wearing
shorts and sarongs, with a beer in
hand. Or not. Yes, you heard that right.
Goa is the same except you cannot
drink on the beaches anymore. If you
do, you’ll either have to pay a fine of Rs
2,000 or land up in jail for up to three
months. This development came after
an amendment to the Registration of
Tourist Trade Act was approved by the
state cabinet recently.
Goa’s tourism minister Manohar
Ajgaonkar says that this amendment is
not without reason. He says the reason
for banning beer on the beach is not
alcohol consumption, but the fact that
people misbehave and break bottles on
the beach that has a deadly potential to
harm humans and marine life. He said
that cooking food in the open has also
been banned, listing that the offenders
in groups can also be fined upto Rs
10,000.
The footfall in the state had dipped in
the previous years; and now such an
amendment will land an even heavy
blow to the tourism industry. The state
has not just banned drinking on the
beaches, but in public places as well.
Ajgaonkar had mentioned earlier that
once the amendments come into force
after they are passed in the Assembly,
photographs of offenders will be sent
across to the Tourism Ministry on a
special phone number, following which
action would be taken in 12 hours.
The law will also charge penalties
for shacks that allow guests to carry
bottles of liquor with them. However,
it’s okay as long as you are drinking
and eating inside the shack or in a bar,
where you will not be questioned at all.
Did you know? according to etiquette you shouldn’t send a piece of pickled ginger in the mouth along with
sushi or rolls. Ginger has strong taste and aroma and will not allow you to fully enjoy the treat. It is meant
to “clean” the taste between two pieces of sushi. Sushi is considered to be an aphrodisiac, because the
two most common types of fish that are used, salmon and mackerel, are known for their high content of
omega-3 fatty acids, which help to produce the stimulating hormones.
Prayagraj Kumbh Mela Authority sets third
Guinness World Record within three days
Prayagraj: Organisers and volunteers at
the Prayagraj Kumbh 2019 have set yet
another Guinness World Record, the third
such record in the last week. The latest
record was set for 'massive sanitation
work' carried out by the Prayagraj
Mela Authority (PMA) on Saturday.
Earlier this week, the authorities had
set world records for the 'largest parade
of buses' and 'most contribution to a
handprint painting in 8 hours'.
According to onlookers and
witnesses, a large number of broomwielding
Comedian Trevor
Noah apologizes
for joke about war
between India and
Pakistan
Comedian and Daily Show host Trevor
Noah has apologized following a
backlash after he made a joke last week
about the possibility of war between
India and Pakistan.
As tensions between the neighboring
nuclear powers escalated over the longdisputed
region of Kashmir, Noah joked
that war between the two would be "the
most entertaining" as he imitated a
Bollywood-like dance number.
"It would also be the longest war of all
time — another dance number?" he said.
The remarks quickly elicited scorn on
social media, with many slamming Noah's
joke as racist and culturally insensitive.
Noah responded over the weekend by
describing his use of comedy to "process
pain," and apologized, writing in a tweet,
"I am sorry that this hurt you and others,
that's not what I was trying to do."
The relationship between India and
Pakistan reached a crisis point last
week when Pakistan shot down and
captured an Indian fighter pilot over
Kashmir. That came after a suicide
bomb attack that killed 40 Indian
troops in the long-disputed region of
Kashmir last month. A Pakistani-based
extremist group, Jaish-e-Mohammed,
claimed responsibility for the attack.
descended at several locations across
the city of Prayagraj and began
cleaning the streets. The move is
being seen as a furtherance of Prime
Minister Narendra Modi's flagship
initiative, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
The second record was created
on Thursday when thousands of
volunteers took part in a handprint
community engagement activity as
part of the "Paint My City" initiative.
As many as 7,664 people broke the
record for the 'most contribution to
a handprint painting in 8 hours'. The
Japanese safety video teaches
cats the rules of the road
Roadways are treacherous to the
animal kingdom. But a Japanese auto
parts and service chain, Yellow Hat is
doing its part to help some of our fourlegged
companions on this big blue orb
navigate the dangers of the streets.
In a video that according to Fast
Company is tailored for the enjoyment
of cats, Yellow Hat has gone to great
lengths to share with felines the
dangers of the road. While I don't
speak Japanese (or cat, but I'm taking
classes), I think I have the general gist
of what's happening.
A police cat (probably a captain),
lectures three cats about what you
shouldn't do (as a cat) on the road.
Officer Whiskers (I'm guessing that's
the cat's name. If it isn't, it should be)
warns the assembled kittens via meows
that, "there are many dangers."
The kitty constable then shares
important pearls of wisdom like "don't
jump out into the street!" which are
accompanied by videos of cats behaving
badly on and near roadways. Some
of these felines are played by people
dressed as cats and some are puppets. I
know, I'm also disappointed in Yellow
Hat for giving cat roles to humans.
Jet Airways
grounds 2 more
planes, 20% fleet
non-operational
MUMBAI: Turbulence-hit Jet Airways
on Monday grounded another two
aircraft due to non-payment issue
making its 20% fleet non-operational.
As of now, 25 of its planes, which
account for almost 20% of its fleet
are on ground due to severe liquidity
crunch in the airline and subsequent
failure to pay rentals to various lessors.
previous record for this feat was held
by the citizens of South Korean capital
city Seoul with 4,675 people.
Meanwhile, the third record was
also set on February 28 for the 'largest
parade of buses'. For this purpose, a
fleet of 500 Kumbh Mela special buses
of the Uttar Pradesh State Road and
Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) were
paraded on a stretch of 3.2 kilometres
between Sahson toll and Nawabganj
toll plaza in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
The previous record for this feat was
held by Abu Dhabi with 390 buses.
at Sora News24, the video was created
specifically to engage cats. It was
put together with help from Kyoto
University's Camp-Nyan animal
psychology research team. In addition
to having something moving around
on screen at all times to keep the
intended viewer's eyes on the video, the
background music has chirping birds and
sounds that resemble squeaking mice.
During a scientific test with my own
cats, they were intrigued by the video
for roughly 15 seconds before walking
away. To be fair, neither goes outside
and they're more fans of French New
Wave films. But if they do become
outside cats, I'll be sure to sit them both
down and let Officer Whiskers lecture
them about the dangers of the road.
Also, please be aware while you're
driving. Slow down for humans and
animals.
In a filing to the stock exchanges,
the full-service Jet Airways said, "An
additional two aircraft have been
grounded due to non-payment of
amount outstanding to lessors under
their respective lease agreements."
The airline has 123 planes in its fleet,
according to an online aircraft data
base portal, comprising Boeing 737s,
Boeing 777s, Airbus A330s and ATRs.
Jet Airways has been maintaining
since 7 February, when it announced
the grounding of four planes, that it is
actively "engaged" with all its aircraft
lessors and regularly provides them
Only Kawasaki
Ninja H2R
worth Rs 72
Lakh Delivered
Premium motorcycle manufacturer
Kawasaki has delivered the most
powerful production in the world, Ninja
H2R in India. The first fourstroke,
supercharged motorcycle from a major
manufacturer, the Kawasaki Ninja H2R
produces unheard of power for a factorybuilt
motorcycle. The Ninja H2R is priced
at Rs 72 Lakh (ex-showroom) in India and
the bookings were opened last year. This
the only unit sold so far in India.
The in-house-designed engine
has highly efficient, motorcyclespecific
supercharger which is the
key to achieve maximum power
and the intense acceleration. The
supercharger’s high efficiency and
minimal heat gain meant that an
intercooler was unnecessary, which
also saves weight and space. The
engine was designed to accommodate
the higher air pressure from the
supercharger as well as ensure a high
reliability with the over 300 PS output.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naoki
Matsumoto, Managing Director –
India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd. said,
“We are indeed happy to deliver our
flagship model, the Ninja H2R, in
India. Kawasaki has stunned the world
with this model. The Ninja H2R is
the world’s supercharged hypersport
motorcycle and to deliver one unit in
India is certainly a proud moment for
Kawasaki India.”
For 2019, benefits from numerous
updates, including Brembo’s new
Stylema monobloc calipers, the new
“Supercharged” emblem and Kawasaki’s
Highly Durable paint are added.
to improve its liquidity.
Since then it has grounded 25 planes
in tranches.
The company said it was making all
efforts to minimise disruption to its
network due to the grounding of these
planes and was pro-actively informing
and re-accommodating its affected guests.
The airline also continues to provide
the required and periodic updates to the
Directorate General of Civil Aviation
(DGCA) in this regard, it added.
However, it has not made public the
number of flights cancelled due to the
grounding of these planes over a period
of time.

IAF officer Abhinandan’s gunslinger
is now iconic, and trending
The past few days have seen Twitter being flooded with pictures of
people trying to look like the brave IAF pilot
IAF officer Abhinandan Varthaman
Move over Bollywood slogan
merchandise. If there’s anything
that’s trending in India right now, it
is the gunslinger. The special style
of grooming one’s moustache thick
and bushy has been in existence for
years, but its resurgence in the country
must be attributed to the hero of the
hour, Indian Air Force officer Wing
Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
With his return to India from
Pakistan captivity, the youth of the
country rushed to salons to get their
beard and moustaches trimmed like
that of the valiant officer.
Call it fashion frenzy or a way to
celebrate the braveheart, one thing is
evident — the macho mooch and the
iconic mutton chop beard is here to stay.
The past few days have seen Twitter
being flooded with pictures of people
trying to look like the IAF pilot.
In fact, news agency ANI shared a
post of a Bengaluru man, Mohammed
Chand, emulating officer Abhinandan,
while dubbing him a hero. Dairy
cooperative Amul also came up with
an ad film celebrating the officer’s
moustache in its signature campaign
“Mooch nahi toh kuch nahi”.
Both tweet threads have gone viral
since and men from across India are
now sharing images of themselves
sporting the thick gunslinger and
mutton chop beard.
‘One Nation-One Card’:
All you need to know about the new
mobility card
The card can be used for making payments across all segments
including metro, bus, suburban railways, smart city and retail
shopping.
In a bid to provide seamless urban
mobility to commuters across the
country, the Centre on March 4
launched India’s first indigenouslydeveloped
National Common Mobility
Card (NCMC).
Dubbed as 'One Nation-One Card',
the inter-operable transport card
would allow holders to pay for their
bus travel, toll taxes, parking charges,
retail shopping and withdraw cash.
With this “one-of-its-kind” card,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said
during the launch, the country is “no
longer required to be dependent on
foreign technology.”
"Now, we have this 'Made in India'
card. Only a select few countries have
this technology of 'One Nation One
Card'," PM Modi added.
Here are the key point you need to
know about the ‘One Nation One
Card’:
• The mobility card can be issued in the
form of debit, credit or prepaid card of
a partner bank.
• The card is similar to any RuPay
debit/credit card, which will be
available with more than 25 banks,
including the State Bank of India (SBI).
• The card can be used for making
payments across all segments including
metro, bus, suburban railways, smart
• The card can also be used for paying
at toll plazas and for parking.
• The card offers cashback on bill
payments and more than thousand
other offers.
• A cardholder can also avail 5 percent
cash back at ATMs and 10 percent
cash back at merchant outlets while
travelling abroad.
• It is supported by indigenously
developed Automatic Fare Collection
Gate ‘Swagat’ and an Open Loop
Automatic Fare Collection System
‘Sweekar’. Both ‘Swagat’ and ‘Sweekar’
