The​ ​statements​ ​represented​ ​challenges​ ​the​ ​Future​ ​Friendly​ ​team​ ​uncovered​ ​during​ ​their​ ​research<br />

and​ ​engagement​ ​with​ ​St.​ ​Vincent​ ​de​ ​Paul​ ​Society.<br />

Co-design<br />

This​ ​activity​ ​enabled​ ​each​ ​Congress​ ​participant​ ​to​ ​help​ ​design​ ​The​ ​Society’s​ ​future​ ​initiatives​ ​as​ ​a<br />

means​ ​to​ ​solve​ ​current​ ​challenges.​ ​Self-selection​ ​for​ ​the​ ​‘<strong>How</strong>​ ​<strong>Might</strong>​ ​<strong>We</strong>’​ ​(HMW)​ ​encouraged<br />

collaboration​ ​within​ ​The​ ​Society​ ​and​ ​diversity​ ​(age,​ ​location,​ ​experience​ ​and​ ​association​ ​with​ ​The<br />

Society)​ ​amongst​ ​the​ ​group​ ​participants.<br />

Method<br />

1. Individuals​ ​chose​ ​from​ ​11​ ​HMW​ ​statements​ ​by​ ​signing​ ​up​ ​to​ ​be​ ​part​ ​of​ ​the​ ​group​ ​they​ ​were<br />

more​ ​passionate​ ​about.<br />

2. Each​ ​group​ ​assembled​ ​and​ ​unpacked​ ​their​ ​HMW​ ​problem​ ​statement​ ​in​ ​group​ ​discussion.<br />

3. Ideation​ ​in​ ​3​ ​phases:<br />

a. Individual,​ ​fast-​ ​participants​ ​spent​ ​time​ ​individually​ ​coming​ ​up​ ​with​ ​solutions​ ​to​ ​their<br />

HMW<br />

b. Pairs​ ​-​ ​Individuals​ ​got​ ​into​ ​pairs​ ​and​ ​shared​ ​their​ ​ideas,​ ​gave​ ​each​ ​other​ ​feedback.<br />

Pairs​ ​then​ ​came​ ​up​ ​with​ ​3​ ​new​ ​ideas​ ​together,​ ​using​ ​a​ ​combination​ ​of​ ​their​ ​original<br />

ideas​ ​and​ ​new​ ​ideas​ ​they​ ​formed​ ​together<br />

c. HMW​ ​group​ ​-​ ​groups​ ​of​ ​approximately​ ​10​ ​participants​ ​(focused​ ​on​ ​the​ ​same​ ​HMW)<br />

came​ ​together​ ​to​ ​share​ ​their​ ​pair’s​ ​ideas.​ ​The​ ​group​ ​then​ ​came​ ​up​ ​with​ ​3​ ​new​ ​ideas<br />

using​ ​the​ ​‘Opportunity​ ​Poster’​ ​worksheet​ ​template.<br />

4. Groups​ ​presented​ ​their​ ​‘Opportunity​ ​Poster’​ ​to​ ​the​ ​Congress​ ​over​ ​dinner.<br />

5. Groups​ ​turned​ ​one​ ​of​ ​their​ ​ideas​ ​from​ ​their​ ​‘Opportunity​ ​Poster’​ ​into​ ​an​ ​‘Idea​ ​Blueprint’<br />

(template)​ ​which​ ​required​ ​more​ ​granular​ ​detail​ ​with​ ​questions​ ​around​ ​who​ ​the​ ​idea​ ​benefits,<br />

what​ ​traits​ ​it​ ​has​ ​and​ ​more.<br />

6. Neighbouring​ ​groups​ ​shared​ ​feedback​ ​on​ ​one​ ​another’s​ ​‘Idea​ ​Blueprint’​ ​using​ ​the​ ​‘Rose,<br />

Thorn,​ ​Bud’​ ​worksheet​ ​template.<br />

7. Groups​ ​refined​ ​their​ ​Idea​ ​Blueprint​ ​based​ ​on​ ​their​ ​feedback.
