Carlos Ignacio Figueroa Ahumada
principal Antofagasta International school
The 2018 academic year has come to an end and we are getting
ready to start a new journey. Our results are positive, and it’s rewarding for us
to watch in our students a sense of belonging, where the foundation of our
identity are values and principles that sustain our educational project. This
pride of being "Aisinos" is something we can witness through the testimonies
of students who consider our school a second home, a safe place where they
can grow and develop. A place where appreciation and respect is cultivated,
and where a solid academic foundation is achieved, one that has given us
such a qualified distinction in our city and the region. Time has witnessed the
evolution that we have experienced in our fifteen year history committed to
our students and their families.
We will always have the memories of that initial building that housed us. Today we see how our new spaces are
emerging to cultivate science, art, sports, innovation and technology. This is what we describe as AIS 3.0, this innovative and
futuristic way of looking at education, that challenges us to make our best efforts to continue as a leading school, with a
concept associated with a continuous, bilingual and multicultural education platform.
I am convinced that we are not likely to change the world, but we can do so much for our direct and everyday environment.
The sum of each small effort makes the real difference. This difference becomes a reality in AIS when an ideal is
formed and we transform it into a sense of life that allows us to face the challenges that it presents.
Undoubtedly, the fragility of our human condition can sometimes lead us to let ourselves be seduced by conformity,
comfort, and vanity through a selfish lifestyle. When facing this dilemma, I encourage our students and faculty to live their
lives in depth and not allow for it to be wasted. We are convinced that education is not to give the answers, but rather the
way to find the answers to all the questions. This is why we teach to think, to question, to be, because education is life itself.
Learning is not changing, yet learning is growing. Today is a good day to dare to live it. I invite our community to work hard
and in silence. "Let our success make all the noise".
