AVID INDOOR CLIMBING...
BY ROSS “ACTION MAN” WISHART
Found at Ransomes Europark in
Ipswich (IP3 9RU) Avid Indoor
Climbing is a new bouldering centre
offering over 200 routes that are
regularly altered for variation and
suitable for complete novices to the
highly skilled and experienced.
and international competitions.
If the thought of scaling a wall with without a
harness and rope fills you with dread then fret
not, the walls at Avid are 4.5m tall with a heavily
padded floor to help cushion any prompt landing.
There is also a great range of routes and holds
subject to your ability from the easiest Grey and
Green through Black, Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow
and the expert Purple.
Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is
performed on small rock formations or artificial
rock walls, known as boulders, without the use
of ropes or harnesses.
It was originally just a form of training for
roped climbs and mountaineering, but its
popularity has seen it recognised as a
sport in its own right now with national
As a novice climber, I joined one of the induction
classes which is certainly recommended for
anyone new to Avid or the sport.
The cost of £20.00 covers shoe hire, an Avid
membership and expert instruction.
After that it’s only £9.00 for a climb session with
annual passes also available.
