ANNUAL REPORT 2018

I started Sunshine Home Share Colorado in 2015, I
When
in head first. I didn't read about the evolution of a
jumped
the difficulty to securing funding, or expect to
nonprofit,
an MBA in knowledge without the degree. I missed the
gain
prices and property taxes were outpacing social
Housing
income, older adults and students were sleeping
security
their cars, and the cost of home care continued to
in
Denver was rapidly growing from a housing
escalate.
to a housing crisis. It was time to think
shortage
about how to support our oldest community
differently
savings, time, social work interns, and over 3,000
Using
hours in mentoring, IT, legal, marketing,
volunteer
development, clinical, and data evaluation, we
accounting,
at the end of 2018. I continue to be overwhelmed at
arrive
generosity and kindness of the people who believe in
the
mission, bringing their skills and talents to Sunshine.
our
the Spring of 2018 Sunshine was growing faster than
In
intern, volunteers, and I could keep pace. Having not
one
secured the funding to move from a volunteer program
yet
a paid staffing, the sustainability of our programs was
to
Arapahoe County and The Mile High United Way
Then
us the largest grants yet supporting operating
granted
Two weeks later we received the same news from
costs.
Next50 Foundation and this fall we built a partnership
The
after the City and County of Denver, Office of
Shortly
Empowerment partnered with Sunshine to
Financial
a Financial Social Worker position. With this
staff help clients on a path to financial
addition
which then transcends all aspects of well-
stability,
being.
2018 Sunshine has hired a full time Social Service
In
expanded our internship program to two
MSW
indicators and a sliding fee scale service
performance
and has never compromised on the care and
model,
of our work.
mission
am not sure what 2019 has in store for Sunshine but
I
know we will continue on the path of doing what is
I
and what is right. I can’t wait to see where 2019
Holger Proske briefly mentioned a database system
When
just might work for the unique needs of his friend
that
small non-profit he probably had no idea what he
Alison’s
wrangled himself into. Holger has dedicated countless
had
to Sunshine, ranging from rebuilding the entire
to picking up Alison’s daughter from school
database
Holger brings a wealth of knowledge in
