Mora
your music and how did it feel to
have your three singles released in
2018 be received so well?
It’s hard to label the multi-talented
Reina Mora or her genre of music, and
that’s a good thing. Her wide range of
vocals, dense and textured music and
three hit singles, made her one of music
industry’s breakout artists of 2018.
Since, Reina has been busy putting
the finishing touches on her new pop
album, “Birds Eye View” and working
with Puerto Ricans in Action to help
with Relief from Hurricane Maria.
Modesty aside, how would you
describe yourself?
I am outspoken, strong minded and
stubborn. When I set my mind to do
something I do it full speed ahead no
looking back even if I fall or make mistakes
I get back up and keep going. I
don’t know how else to be. I’ve been
determined my entire life especially
when it came to making music.
What genre, if any, would describe
My music is Alternative Latin infused
pop. I’ve tried to blend the past with the
current. It felt great for the singles, but
I’ve been writing so many new songs
that I’ve been in hibernation mode in
the studio recording all this time, so I
am ready to show new material. The
Album was done but since I’ve been so
inspired to write I’ve added more songs
to it and may take out some old ones so
tough decisions must be made soon.
You are about to release your first
full album. What is it titled? Can you
share a bit about it?
It’s called “Birds Eye View” and the tittle
is the best description of it. It’s a full
view of me and my life experiences. The
good, the bad and the ugly sides I hide.
Which is why my music is my therapy,
my getaway and sanctuary that I hope
helps make other people feel less alone
in this crazy uncertain world we live in.
Fabeyonce "2019"
The year has gone by so quickly and seems like
2018 was short lived. But I am so excited to see
what 2019 has in store for us. 2018 was such a fun
time. I've gained a new family and lost a lot of
friends. But that's how life is, you win some and
you loose some. At the end of the day, friends and
family will stick with you no matter what.
The hardest part about loosing friendships, is
that for me personally, I don't like to give second
chances. That sounds bad, but if you got screwed
over once by them, you'll get screwed over again
for sure.
I Gained a new family with my motha Morgan
and what a journey this is turning out to be.
Becoming a McMichaels has really pushed me
harder to be more outgoing and push myself in
ways I haven't in the past. So I'm super excited to
try out new things and see what comes of it .
I've gotten many great opportunities and I'm
super thankful that I was watched out for. I'm
also thankful that there are people who want
me to succeed and go all the way. The love and
respect Morgan's show gives is amazing. To
be amongst other legendary queens like Delta,
Mariah b, Mayhem Miller, Sonique , etc. When
you step into their world, it's a hectic life but
quite a ride and one I won't forget.
been learning to do. Take everyone's negative
remarks and use them to become the better
person I want to be.
January 3 was my bday and I had such an
amazing time. I was actually on vacation and had
time to rest, which I never really do. But spending
time with my loved ones and some friends is
what was needed. We get so busy and wrapped
around things, we forget about our families.
Family always comes first no matter what. I did
go out for lunch and had great food and cake. I
was super stuffed. Did not eat for the next two
days.
Watch out for new things happening in 2019. We
have lots of amazing new ideas coming your way
and can't wait to talk about them soon in these
next few articles. Palm Springs, your gonna live.
I think it's about time to switch things up a bit
and with many ideas motha finally chose, so stay
tuned for more info on this soon.
I did want to thank my publisher-Will Paige of
the DDG for allowing me and giving me this
opportunity to write every week for the DDG
please stay tuned for next week's article
Love, your girl Fabeyonce McMichaels
#Makeroomforthebiggirl
Til next week my loves
This year I'm gonna try my best to eat healthier,
slow down on my soda drinking and try to get
my butt in the gym. I'm ready for a life change
and ready to be more comfortable in my own
skin. Previously at other shows, I was picked on
for being bigger than the other queens and was
called out quite a bit for it at every single show.
Now, don't feel sorry for me, but encourage me
that I can do better and For be over better. 23 That's years what Online I've and in print facebook.com/desertdailyguide 29

JORDAN MEJIAS ARTIST
PORTRAYING THE HOMOEROTIC
MALE BODY
Jordan Mejias is a Puerto Rican born
artist who grew up in New York City
and has developed his creative talent
to capture the male body with line
drawing and watercolor in a manner
that demonstrates a knowledge of male
anatomy and media technique.
His use of watercolor paint to exemplify
the homoerotic male body as full
of emotional undertones as well as
showing a mastering of a difficult
medium in anatomical painting. His
work has been compared to early
Roman artists and Renaissance masters
such as Michelangelo and Caravaggio.
He has also been compared to Egon
Schiele and with more contemporary
artists like Paul Cadmus and our local
artist/photographer, Tom Bianichi who
are noted for finding the erotic and
sensual in the male body.
Mejias attended the Parsons School
of Design in New York on a full
scholarship. He has created art for
international publications such as
Future, L'Oreal, and Harcourt Brace
Jovanovich. His work with the male
AdamsArtExpose’
body uses live models mostly from
New York, many associated with the
Broadway stage and the world of dance.
He also does photography showing
models he has used for a work who is
looking at the art that was created of
him. His work has been shown at the
First Street Gallery and Spring Studio
in New York and has also been chosen
for several private collections. He
has recently had a book of his work
published titled, "Jordan Mejias Of Art
and Men" that is full of sensuos male
nudes in drawings and watercolor. He
is an artist who is now known, and will
be more widely recognized, as a master
of the male erotic body, representing
gay males collectively, as sensuous
individuals that demonstrate multiple
feelings through anatomical gestures
“I think it can be easy to get discouraged
when people don’t share the same passion
Your music at times incorporates
your Latin roots. Is that something
organic to you or is it an artistic
choice?
It’s both. I want people to know that
I am proud of where I am from, that
even though I am a fair skinned Latina,
I am Puerto Rican. A lot of people,
especially in LA, can’t guess where I
am from half the time unless I start
talking in Spanish. I want people to
know that Puerto Rico is a beautiful
melting pot of people filled with culture
and pride that is ingrained in us
since birth.
Tell me about your book, Deserted
Cathedral.
It’s a book or poetry I’ve been writing
for a while now, but was afraid to
share. Some are old poems from my
youth but most are recent; it’s like
the faucet never stop running and the
poems flowed out of me like water. I
had so much to say through poetry,
especially after my mother’s passing
this year. I spent some time with her
in the hospital the weeks leading up
to her passing and I read her poetry
books I brought. She asked me if I
had any of mine so I read some to her.
She loved it so much and requested I
publish them. It’s really all thanks to
her that I will finally be releasing the
book soon.
You work with the non-profit charity
organization, Puerto Ricans in
Action, to help with relief from
Hurricane Maria. Tell me about the
organization and your work with
them?
I reached out to Nicole, the head of
PRIA to see what I can do to help.
I went to the first event and spoke
about my experience with Hurricane
George when I was in Puerto Rico
and donated money. Then Hurricane
Maria struck and I planned a show
at Bar Lubitsch where all the proceeds
of the event would go to helping
send care packages to Puerto Rico. I
helped do as much as I possibly could
to the point where now Nicole and I
still work closely on organizing more
events together. Right now we have
been focused on sending Water Filter
Systems to families in need since so
many people died not having clean
water to drink on the island. People
are still struggling and we are still
trying to find ways to help. We also
do events here in LA educating people
about Puerto Rico because it’s not
often taught in classes that we are a
US Territory. We use the same currency,
you don’t need a passport to come
and yes we are American citizens even
though we can’t vote for the US President.
The “Let’s Talk about Puerto
Rico” events educate people about
our music, culture and history. I sing
native songs from Puerto Rico and
explain the history behind the songs.
It’s also been enlightening for me and
I’ve even learned how to dance some
Bomba. I’ll be working on an album
with PRIA next year.
Tell me how helping Puerto Rico
after the devastation of Hurricane
Maria is close to your heart.
Well, my family and I had to start
from ground zero after Hurricane
George washed away all our belongings.
United
stay in shelters till we could get back
on our feet. Not only that but I had
family effected on the island by Hurricane
Maria luckily no one died but
a lot is still under construction and
times are very hard for them. I got to
see that first hand when I went back
to the island for my mother’s funeral.
The place I called home was no longer
the same and will need a lot of
resources that people don’t have to fix
the damage.
charitable organization,
Your Matter-Not Alone. Tell me
about the organization and you
work with it.
going off the deep end especially after
my mother’s death.
Aside from the release of your
album, do you have another project
coming up?
I’ve written a song for one of the charities
I support, “Screaming for the
Sun”, and we will be shooting a music
video for it soon.
Tell me a secret-a good one!
Mm, a good secret, well I got 11 tattoos.
After my mother’s passing, I started
going to therapy and taking care of my
mental health. Which even where I am
from is taboo and it is called a “White
people thing”. I had to be tough my
entire life because I didn’t have any
other choice. When I started to come
face to face with myself I realized that
I’ve battled with important deaths that
lead me to deep depressions that lead
me to isolating people around me. I
didn’t want to do that this time so in
seeking help I learned about the You
Matter Movement and saw how easy
it is to sink deep into depression to
the point of losing all hope for life.
I’ve struggled with depression but in
discovering I wasn’t alone I decided
to help by learning how to prevent
suicide and how to talk, teach other
people ways of prevention. I became
involved because I believe in mental
health. It’s honestly saved me from
More Rose Parade in Pasadena...
The Tweet no one heard? "One of the
2019 #RoseParade floats is experiencing
technical difficulties at Orange Grove
and Colorado. Thank you for patience
10:18 AM - Jan 1, 2019 No one on the
parade route got the message.
Reporter notes. Parking and access was very
easy for this parade. The stands are ticketed
but there are miles of free space on the side of
the route. To get there at 6 am, we spent New
Years Eve at the best gay bar in the universe
called The Hook Up at 1047 E 2nd St, Pomona.
A working class gay bar where the doors
are used for ventilation. We had nachos and
gigantic beers. It was an unexpected pleasure
for Adrian and our friend Roger. Most of
us old timers remember the Hook Up. The
viewing area of the float building is open to the
pubic, as well as the battle of the bands.
Palm Springs City Council
Approves Two-Year SunLine
Transit Agency Proposal to Revive
Popular BUZZ Trolley System
It’s official! Palm Springs residents and
visitors will soon have the opportunity to
once again catch the BUZZ!
On Wednesday night, the Council approved
SunLine Transit Agency’s proposal to revive
the popular trolley system, which ended
June 30 in Palm Springs. The Council voted
to approve a proposal that would operate
the trolley system year-round, Thursday
through Saturday from noon to 10 pm.
The program is anticipated to begin this
November and run through June 30, 2020
when the Council will review whether
or not to continue the City’s subsidy.
Beyond 2020, SunLine will ultimately
decide whether to continue the service. In
addition, the Council will review program
operations with SunLine at the end of the
2019 fiscal year.
Councilmember Lisa Middleton, who also
sits on SunLine’s Board of Directors as
the City’s representative, worked with the
agency to bring forward the proposal.
has stepped up to assume operation of this
program and we look forward to partnering
with them.”
As part of the proposal, the agency will take
over the management of the system, capital
costs and purchase the trolleys. The fun and
colorful branding will remain the same.
“SunLine is pleased to partner with the
City of Palm Springs to continue this
service for residents and tourists. Providing
transportation options also enhances the
local economy, creating more convenient
access to local businesses,” said Lauren
Skiver, CEO/General Manager of SunLine
Transit Agency. “The BUZZ trolleys offer
a fun and innovative way to get around
Palm Springs. We look forward to bringing
the service back to the community and
welcoming new riders to the SunLine
Transit network.”
“The BUZZ trolley has become a much
loved, fast and fun amenity which residents
and visitors enjoy using to get around
town,” said Mary Jo Ginther, director of the
Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism. “Why
drive when you can take the BUZZ? It truly
is a part of the magic that makes Palm
Springs like no place else.”
“The City Council recognized that the
BUZZ Trolley has been an incredibly
popular service appreciated by both
residents and visitors and wanted a less
expensive option to keep it rolling,” said
Middleton. “We are delighted that SunLine
DID YOU KNOW?
Veterans Day in 2019 is on Monday, the
11th of November
All veterans should occasionally check
with a Veterans Service Officer to see
if changes in a veteran's circumstances
or changes to benefit policies may have
modified the programs a veteran may
be eligible to receive," said Brian Natali,
chief, Division of Veterans Services
and Programs. "Veterans should take
these important steps to secure their
benefits, and there are numerous
accredited Veterans Service Officers and
organizations eager to help.
Veterans and their dependents should
never pay for help to apply for veteran's
benefits. There are about 200 Veterans
Service Officers in Pennsylvania
who work with organizations such as
the DMVA, county veterans affairs
offices, and several veterans service
organizations. They are experienced,
trained professionals who provide
veterans with the best advice assistance at
no cost
Veterans SURVEY
Dear Veteran,
This survey is designed to identify high
priority issues and unmet needs for
veterans living, working, or going to school
in Riverside County. Your participation
in this survey will benefit veterans like
yourself by helping Riverside County
develop better support systems to help you
access the services that you and your fellow
veterans need and have the right to.
The survey should take only about 10
minutes to complete. We encourage you to
answer all the questions, but you should
feel free to skip any questions that may
make you feel uncomfortable.
The survey asks about your military
experience, knowledge and use of veterans’
benefits, your health and access to
health services, health risks, and overall
well-being. We also ask you to provide
information on your general characteristics
that might help target assistance to specific
individuals and groups.
Thank you in advance for taking the time
to help identify Riverside County veterans’
unmet needs.
