There’s also a spotlight on some dance academies, one of the many local arts organizations that perform in the Center (page 14). Visit page 11 to learn about Center Gift Cards, Discount Ticket programs, Group Sales and the Center’s Perks Card program. To help you plan ahead, a listing of this season’s events is available on pages 60 and 61. Also within are acknowledgements of some of the cast that help make this all possible, including our members anddonors (pages 54-55) and sponsors (page 57) whose support of the Center is critical to its success, since ticket revenues alone simply do not cover all the costs of providing a world-class arts center. As you learn more about the Center and its programs, we hope you’ll also consider contributing to help us further expand the reach and impact of the Harris Center in this community. Again, thank you for attending today’s performance. We hope you’ll enjoy this great show, up close, and return for many more in the years ahead. HALAU KA WAIKAHE LANI MALIE A ME KAHULALIWAI
Halau Ka Waikahe Lani Malie and Halau Kahulaliwai were established 1999 in Sacramento
under the direction of Kumu Hula Juni Kalāhikiola Lovel. Originally from the island of
Kaua`i, Kumu Juni Kalāhikiola Lovel began dancing hula at the age of 8. She attributes
her deeper love of hula and lessons in spirituality to the teachings of her Kumu, Blaine
Kamalani Kia. The hālau vision is to enhance and to sustain strong cultural and spiritual
values by better educating the hula practitioner to care, support and respect the dance; so
that each practitioner, as they aspire to their full potential, can spiritually and humbly make
a contributing impact (through example) to the community and all walks of life. The hālau
mission is that all properties of knowledge, wisdom and cultural aspects belonging to the
dance be passed down and rooted from generation to generation and maintained by the
halau principals for the benefit of all who are part of the dance. This year’s annual Ho’ike
show is scheduled for June 29.
