REGISTRATION
Registration for events and camps are done
online through your MyGS account. For more
information about events or camps please
go to www.citrus-gs.org. Registration opens
January 8 TH , 2019.
SUMMER CAMP CONFIRMATION
PACKETS
Confirmation packets and all forms will be
attached to your camp session in your MyGS
account once registration is complete. To view
forms and confirmation packets please log in
to your MyGS account and navigate to the “My
Activities” tab.
Once there, you will be able to see the items
attached under the camp session. Please
read through the packet with your camper,
review and complete all the forms and email to
summercamp@citrus-gs.org no later than 2
weeks before your camp session start date.

From the backyard to the backcountry,
Girl Scouts has a long, storied, and
successful history of getting girls
outdoors.
In fact, many Girl Scouts tell us “camping trips”
are one of the best things about their Girl Scout
experience. It’s true: connecting with nature in
a girl-led setting is a big benefit of belonging to
Girl Scouts. Studies show that girls today are not
spending nearly enough time outdoors.
Technology and structured activities leave less
time for girls to get outside and enjoy nature. But
as a Girl Scout, she’ll have plenty of opportunities
to create her own outdoor adventures and
develop a lifelong appreciation for nature and the
out-of-doors—whether with her troop, at camp,
or with friends and family.
And that’s great news—because when Girl Scouts
get outside, they:
• Discover that they can better solve problems
and overcome challenges
• Develop leadership skills, build social bonds, and
are happier overall
• Become team players and care more about
protecting our environment
When girls spend quality time outdoors and
increase their exposure to nature, they thrive
physically, emotionally, and intellectually. And
there are tons of Outdoor Program opportunities
for girls to choose from. Review the information
below and explore this Outdoor/Summer Guide
with the girls in your life. Info is also available on

wait to see you this summer!

SAMPLER CAMPS D B
Designed for girls and parents
who prefer to “sample” the
overnight camp experience,
these camps consist of 3 days
and 2 nights. Space is limited
to ensure girls have a more
personal experience with
counselors and sister campers.
RESIDENT CAMPS B J C S A
(TRADITIONAL, ADVENTURE,
AND TRAVEL)
Ages vary per session. Designed
for girls who prefer an overnight
camp experience, these camps
consist of 6 days and 5 nights
and may include field trips,
adventures such as surfing or
traveling!
DAY CAMPS D B J
Designed for girls who would
prefer a camp experience that is
not overnight. These camps are
usually 5 days from 9:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. Before and After Care is
available for an additional cost.
COMMUNITY DAY CAMPS
Community Day Camps are
hosted by volunteers in specific
communities.
ADULT PARTICIPATION
Please refer to the program
description for details on adult/girl
ratio. Most events require adult
chaperones to attend, even for
Juliettes. However, some events
are just for girls. Please review

EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT

(this does not apply to

sampler camp. If your camp
is not paid in full by the
deadline your camp fee will
increase to the after April
17 TH price (Camp Rate).

camperships or any other

PROGRAM AIDES (PA) AND COUNSELOR-IN
-TRAINING (CIT)
Program Aides and Counselors-in-Training who
wish to help at day camp or resident camp in
a leadership role may do so for a maximum of
two (2) weeks. Program Aides will receive a $75
discount for each day camp (this does not apply
to community day camps). Counselors-in-Training
will receive a $150 discount for each resident camp
session. Discounts may not be combined with
camperships or any other discounts.
SUMMER CAMP DEPOSITS / PAYMENTS
A $25 non-refundable deposit must be made at
time of registration. The balance of the camp
fee can be made in payments or in a one lump
sum through your MyGS account. Final payments
are due by registration deadline of camp
session. Deposits are non-refundable except
if the camp session has been canceled by the
council. If you have any issues, please feel free
to contact Customer Care at 407-896-4475 or
CustomerCare@citrus-gs.org.

CAMPERSHIPS
Thanks to our generous supporters,
members of Girl Scouts of Citrus
who express a financial need are
eligible to receive partial assistance
with their camp fee for a maximum
of one camp session. Girls must
first register online for their camp
session and pay the $25 deposit
(which is refundable in the case of
non-approval or if you are unable
to pay), then complete the online
Campership application by April 29 TH ,
2019. If approved, a confirmation will
be sent stating the amount granted.
The balance is due according
to the deadlines of the camp
session. Camperships cannot be
combined with any other discounts.
Acceptance letters must be signed
and returned to receive assistance.
REFUNDS/CANCELLATIONS:
SUMMER CAMP
Cancellations for any Summer Camp
must be submitted in writing via email
to customercare@citrus-gs.org no later
than the Registration Deadline for that
specific camp. Any fees paid to date
(beyond the $25 non-refundable deposit)
will be refunded.
Any cancellations after the registration
deadline will not be refunded unless
it is for extenuating medical or family
circumstances. These requests will also
need to be submitted in writing via email
to customercare@citrus-gs.org for
consideration and approval. Cancellation
fees will apply.
Transfers may be done no later than the
registration deadline date for that camp
session by contacting customercare@
citrus-gs.org.

own Hometown Heroes as a variety of First

Mah-Kah-Wee Program Center
What’s that? Why is it green? Ever wonder what
is under your feet when you’re walking through
the woods? Well come and explore the creatures
that live in the grass, dirt and water around you.
Perform nature experiments all while having fun
with your friends exploring nature around you.
Spend some time participating in water themed
games while learning how it is important to
everyday activities.

Come on down to MKW Lake where you will work
on mastering your canoe and kayak skills! Once
you are ready we will take a trip across the lake for
a picnic lunch and even plan an after dinner canoe
ride around the lake. Learn how to make a floating
campfire to share with all of your friends and
enjoy some time participating in other fun camp
activities while making new friends.

Ever wonder what it would be like to breathe
underwater? Then come learn how! This week is all
about exploring the water under the surface. Take a
dip in the pool and learn the basics of SCUBA! Girls

camp activities!

SUMMER CAMP
FAQ’S
ACA ACCREDITATION
The American Camp Association (ACA) is an
independent national agency which imposes the
highest standards of health, safety, program, and
staffing for camps across the country. Camps
are periodically visited and must maintain high
marks to display the ACA logo. Mah-Kah-Wee
Program Center is accredited and meets or
exceeds ACA standards.
BADGES
Earning badges and completing award
requirements is an integral part of summer
camp. Each week your camper will complete one
badge (based upon grade level they will enter in
the Fall) and additional requirements for other
badges. At checkout she will receive the badge
that she has earned for that week along with a
list of the other badge work that she has started.
BAD WEATHER
In an event that there is severe weather in the
area, all girls are moved to a safe location on
the camp grounds according to the emergency
action plan. While at these locations, there are a
number of rainy day programs to keep the girls’
minds off of the weather until we are given the
all clear to resume regular outdoor programs.
BIRTHDAYS
Birthdays are a fun celebration at camp. Special
arrangements for giving a present or providing
treats for your camper’s unit can be made in
advance. Campers will celebrate birthdays by
being recognized during lunch with cake and a
big birthday song on their special day.
If your camper attends more than one week she
may receive a duplicate badge. If she receives a
duplicate badge, it can be taken to the council
shop and exchanged for another badge that she
is working on. Please note: Girl Scout Daisies will
only receive a participation patch.

BUDDIES AT CAMP
Girls attend camp individually, not as a troop,
but they may choose to attend with one buddy.
If your camper has a special buddy that is in
the same grade level and attending the same
camp session they must request each other
during registration. Only one buddy request will
be honored.
Remember a buddy is not a requirement and
is not guaranteed. Many campers come to
camp without a buddy and make new friends.
We make every effort to accommodate your
camper’s buddy request. Girls of the same
troop will not be guaranteed placement
together. They must request one buddy only
to be placed with during their camp session.

CHECK-IN
If your camper is attending multiple camps, we
will be able to copy most forms. There will still
be a few that need to be completed each week
(Camper Release and Activity/Medical Consent
Form). You will receive your confirmation
packet when you register for summer camp,
attached to your camp session in your “My
GS” account under “My Activities” along with all
forms necessary for your camp session.
Please read through the packet with your
camper, review and complete all the forms and
email to summercamp@citrus-gs.org no later
than 2 weeks before your camp session start
date. Camp Doc must be complete 2 weeks prior
to camp session start date.
Please arrive to check-in during designated
time with medications, trip money, trading post
money, or any outstanding forms. All campers
will participate in a health check at our “heads
and toes” station to check for fever and other
communicable conditions. Also please ensure
that everyone that comes to check in is wearing
closed toed shoes, as you will be walking to the
units.

EQUAL ACCESS
No one shall be denied admission to our camp(s)
because of race, color, national origin, religion,
sex, handicap, or age, providing specific program
requirements are met.
GRADES FOR CAMP
Girls currently registered in K-12 (as of Fall 2018)
can attend summer camp. Sessions may vary
based on grade level. Girls who are not currently
registered as a Girl Scout are encouraged to
attend as a non-member for an additional fee.
HEADS AND TOES STATION
All girls will have their head and toes checked
and temperature taken. If your camper is found
to have head lice or nits, athlete’s foot or a fever
she will not be able to return to camp unless
she is cleared by a doctor. Once cleared she may
return to camp or choose another camp session,
if available.
HEALTHCARE
Resident Camp have a qualified medical staff
that is on site 24 hours a day as well as an oncall
doctor if illness or injury requires additional
medical attention. At Day Camp, staff is certified
in First Aid and CPR. Parents will be notified any
time there is an emergency regarding their child.
CampDoc is an online web based database
that we use for all healthcare information.
This program allows you to turn in all medical
forms electronically and keep them on file for
a year. More information for new and returning
campers will be in your confirmation packet. In
a conscious effort to provide a safe and healthy
environment for all campers, Girl Scouts of
Citrus requires campers to provide the following
documents:
• Resident Camp: A physical exam that includes
a health history that has been taken within 12
months of the camper’s last day at camp is
required for campers. Health exam forms must
be signed by a licensed physician as well as
current shot records.
• Day Camp: A current health history and a
current shot record is required for campers.
Any girl who arrives at camp without the
appropriate medical paperwork will not be
allowed to stay unless she can obtain the
missing documents from her physician or an
Urgent Care Center on the day of check in.
All Health History, Health Exam and Shot
records need to be uploaded to the Camp Doc
website no less than two weeks prior to camp
start date. The Privacy Act of 2001 protects
all personal and medical information. The
disclosure of confidential information is only
available to health personnel (does not apply to
community day camps).
GIRLS WITH SPECIAL NEEDSS
Girl Scouts of Citrus seeks to provide an
inclusive environment. Campers requiring
special accommodations, meals, or equipment
must notify us in writing two weeks prior to
attending their camp session. Please send
the completed needs assessment form to
summercamp@citrus-gs.org. All information
will be kept confidential and shared only with the
appropriate staff.

HOMESICKNESS
One of our summer camp goals is to make
sure that every child at camp has a safe, fun
and positive experience. As a parent you can
help with the process of preparing your child
from feeling homesick while at camp in the
following ways:
• Have your child practice being away from
home prior to attending camp. Perhaps
encourage her to stay at a friend or relatives
home for a night or weekend.
• Do not promise to pick up your child early
from camp. This can make campers focus
only on going home, and not able to focus on
the fun they’ll have at camp.
• Use a calendar at home to show that the
time spent at camp is not an eternity, but
actually a very short amount of time.
• Don’t tell your camper how badly you will
miss them while at camp. Do tell them how
much you love them, even while they are away
from home, and how excited you are for them
to have so much fun at camp!
• Communicate before, during and after the
camp experience.
• Do not promise your camper that she can
call home while at camp. If a camper is
experiencing extreme homesickness or minor
homesickness for a sustained period of time,
the camp staff will contact the parent and
determine next steps.
If you are concerned about your camper, we
encourage parents to call camp and speak to
the camp director. She will work with you in
assuring your camper is having a successful
experience.
• Encourage your camper to write home about
all of the new activities that they have tried.
• Share your own positive camp stories
with them.
• Let your camper help pack their bags for
camp. Pack one favorite picture, stuffed animal

• Share your own positive camp stories with

• Let your camper help pack their bags for
camp. Pack one favorite picture, stuffed animal

• Spend quality time with your child upon
returning home from camp to “reconnect” after
the separation period. Keep in mind that girls
may experience a boost in self-confidence and
independence while at camp.
• Drop off an encouraging note for each day
at check-in. Her counselors will deliver them
throughout the session.
INSECT BITES
Insect bites can and will occur when
participating in activities outdoors. To avoid
major incident, it is highly recommended to
pack bug spray with deet and apply it multiple
times per day. If your camper needs assistance
applying, please make her counselor aware at
check-in so they can assist her during her stay.
If your camper is allergic to bug spray or insect
bites please enter that information in CampDoc
so the medical staff is aware.

KAPERS
Kapers are minor chores girls participate in
while attending camp. Each staff member
will model and teach campers proper ways
to care for the environment and their camp
surroundings. Each unit is responsible for the
upkeep and cleaning of their area, and for
additional daily camp responsibilities.
This may include cleaning the dining hall,
restrooms, grounds, etc. Girls are closely
monitored to make sure that established health
and safety procedures are used in completing
cleaning tasks. Girls will never directly handle
any chemicals while doing kapers.
MALE STAFF
Male staff members (paid and volunteer) are
a valued part of all aspects of Girl Scouting
including Girl Scout camp. Additional guidelines
are followed when men are present in order to
ensure the privacy of the girls as well as of the
male staff members.
They are never allowed to enter a unit before
contacting the staff in charge, they are never
alone with any girls and they are never in
the same sleeping areas with the girls. In
all situations, Safety Activity Checkpoints
standards for involving men in Girl Scout
activities are followed.
MAIL/SENDING ITEMS TO
CAMPERS
Mail time is the best part of a camper’s day! We
encourage parents to send mail for their child:
packages, letters or e-mails through Bunk1.
Bunk1 is a one-way e-mail service that allows
you to send e-mails to your child and also view
the pictures that are taken during the week.
Note that one-one services means your camper
will not be able to reply via e-mail.) We do ask
that you please send mail in a timely manner
so that your child can receive it the week that
she is at camp. We also recommend that you
drop mail off during check-in so that there is a
guarantee that your child will receive the mail
while at camp. If you would like to have your
child send you mail, please pack pre-addressed
and stamped envelopes (does not apply to
community day camps).
PHONE CALLS
The camp phone is for emergency and business
calls. In case you need to contact the Outdoor
Program Office during camp, the phone number
will be included in your confirmation packet.
Please be understanding if you are unable to
initially reach someone at camp. We will be
checking and returning phone calls regularly.
Campers are not allowed to bring cell phones or
electronics of any kind to camp. If a camper is
found with a cell phone it will be taken away and
held in the camp office until check out when it
will be returned to the parent. An important part
of the camping experience is being “unplugged”.

PHOTOS
Group photos will be taken during each week
of camp and can be purchased before the
camp session or on check in day. Fees for the
photos are $10 per group photo.
PAs and CITs will never be left alone with
girls or counted in the adult/girl ratio. All
Program Aides and Counselors-in-Training will
be contacted directly to sign up for weeks
of camp that are available for them to assist
with during the summer.

We reserve the right to cancel/alter any
program activity when weather conditions
are unsuitable, to include but not limited to,
extreme heat, thunderstorms, etc. Alternative
options will be offered at that time. Our
primary concern is for the safety of the girls
and every effort will be made to reschedule
the activity. No refunds or adjustments in fees
will be made. We cannot offer a discount on
field trips for those campers that may have a
season pass to trip location.
PROGRAM AIDES/COUNSEL-
OR-IN-TRAINING
Older girls that have completed the required
training (GSC - Elements Training) for their
grade level will assist and complete weeks of
internship and additional learning weeks during
both Day Camp & Resident Camp.
•Program Aides (PAs) are girls that are
currently registered as Cadettes that will
usually assist in a Day Camp environment, they
will work with girls under the supervision of
the adult counselors/Day Camp Supervisor.
•Counselors-in-Training (CITs) are girls
that are currently registered as Seniors or
Ambassadors that will usually assist in a
Resident Camp environment. They will work
with girls under the supervision of the adult
counselors.
PROVIDING FOOD
Whether or not a girl needs to bring her own
food to camp will depend on the type of camp
she is attending. If your daughter is attending a
Day Camp at Celia Lane or Riverpoint then you
will have to provide lunch for her.
If your daughter will be attending a Resident
Camp or Sampler Camp, all of her meals
from Sunday night through Tuesday or Friday
afternoon will be provided by our wonderful
kitchen staff. If your daughter has any special
dietary needs or allergies, please write it on the
needs assessment and we will have our food
service manager contact you with the menu.
RATIO
Safety is our number one priority, and we
strive to meet or exceed all established
safety standards for staffing. Below are our
minimum adult/girl ratios:
• 2 adults to every 6 girls currently in
Kindergarten or 1st grade
• 2 adults to every 12 girls currently in 2nd
or 3rd grade
• 2 adults to every 16 girls currently in 4th
or 5th grade
• 2 adults to every 20 girls currently in
6th - 8th grade
• 2 adults to every 24 girls currently in
9th - 12th grade

SLEEPING QUARTERS
Campers will sleep in cabins/bunkhouses at
Mah-Kah-Wee and in bedrooms at Riverpoint.
Bed assignments are determined on a first
come first serve basis and by what session
they are registered for. Counselors will sleep
in separate sleeping quarters, but within
the same unit as girls so that they are
always accessible if a camper needs them.
Riverpoint Lodge and Mah-Kah-Wee cabins
are equipped with fans and air conditioning.

spending their summer working as a counselor,

for open positions after January 8 TH , 2019.
T-SHIRTS AND PATCHES
Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt and
patch, included in their registration fee. When
you register your camper, please choose your
camper’s t-shirt size.
STAFF TRAINING
All staff participate in an intensive, mandatory
training designed to prepare the staff to
create a positive and supportive camp
environment. During this period, the staff
learn child development, the Girl Scout
Program, camp skills, group dynamics, safety
procedures, regulations, cooperative learning
and other important topics. Leadership staff
are also required to attend additional training.
SUMMER STAFF
Staff are selected on the basis of character,
experience working with youth, maturity,
personality, teamwork, education, leadership
ability, skills and certifications in specific
program areas. Staff members include college
students and graduates, certified teachers
and program professionals.
All staff that are directly responsible for
girls are a minimum of 18 years old and no
longer in High School. Many staff return
each year to make a difference in campers’
lives. All new and existing staff members are
required to go through an intensive interview
process including, but not limited to: multiple
interviews, receive a favorable National Criminal
Background Check and clearance from a
National Sexual Offender/Predator Check.
TRANSPORTATION
Parents are responsible for the transportation
of their children to and from all camps. The
camp will provide transportation for special
activities and field trips that are included within
the camp session. Carpools are encouraged.
Most out-of-camp trips that require
transportation, campers are driven in various
council-owned or leased vehicles by staff
members who are at least 21 years of age and
have a favorable driving record. Some trips
may require the use of charter buses or other
vehicles. These approved vendors would provide
their licensed staff members for transportation.
TRADING POST
The trading post will be open at check-in
for your camper to purchase items. You will
also be able to leave money for your camper
to purchase items during her stay at camp.
They offer a variety of items including: (but
not limited to) water bottles, stuffed animals,
T-shirts, jewelry and snacks.
Camp Care Packages are available for purchase
through the Council Shop and at Check-in (does
not apply to community day camps). Community
day camps will have shop on the road.

CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS
All cancellation requests must be submitted
in writing via email and sent directly to
CustomerCare@citrus-gs.org. Participants
may cancel and request a refund for their
registration without penalty up until 14 days
prior to the event (Unless otherwise stated in
the event description).
Cancellation requests received less than 14
days before the event will be subject to a
processing fee of $2.00 per participant. (Unless
otherwise stated in the event description)
Refund requests received on or after the event
date will not be eligible for a refund, except in
extenuating circumstances based on a caseby-case
basis. There will be no refunds or
transfers for no-shows.
TRANSFER OF INDIVIDUALS
Only 1 transfer request will be honored
per event. They must be sent in writing to
CustomerCare@citrus-gs.org and the cost of
the program fees must be exactly the same.
If you need to remove and replace multiple
people from an event, you will need to register
the new people first and then request a refund
in writing to CustomerCare@citrus-gs.org (In
this case refund fees will be waived)

We are committed to providing the best
opportunities for all of our members. If a
program is going to be cancelled we will do our
best depending on the program and partner
to notify you 5-7 days in advance with either a

Program Aide – Attend this training if you are currently in 6th
through 8th grade and have completed and received your Leader
in Action (LIA) award. This training is designed to help you learn
basic leadership skills and techniques that you will be able to
apply in a troop, group or day camp setting. After you complete
this training you will need to work with younger girls over 6 more
additional sessions to receive your official Cadette Program Aide
Award. PLEASE NOTE: This event is for Cadettes who have

beach. Girl Scouts will then apply that knowledge to the shores for
a beach cleanup.

a day full of cybersecurity learning. Three badges will be offered
throughout this program: Cybersecurity Basics, Cybersecurity

out into groups and there will be rotating schedule so each group
of girls will be able to participate in all of the badges offered.
Join in on the fun and develop critical 21st-century technical

water, how to make a shelter, cooking outdoors and much
more! This is the time for you and your adults to come and learn
side by side how to camp in the great outdoors! You will leave with
new skills that can take you on new and exciting camping adventures!
