Modern Pentathlon in Haryana - More than a Sport

Modern Pentathlon, the only sport
created especially for the Olympic
Summer Games by Baron Pierre de
Coubertin, already boasts a strong
heritage stretching Stockholm. back
to 1912.
In 2012, the Indian Olympic
Association (IOA) members approved
Modern Pentathlon’s status as one of
the core sports affiliated in India.
This endorsement gives our
movement a strong mandate to
continue the successful development
of Modern Pentathlon and the non-
Olympic UIPM Sports: Biathle,
Triathle, Tetrathlon and Laser-Run.
The last two years 2017 & 2018
were landmark years for our
development programme. The 1 st ever
Laser-Run City Tour of Asia was
organized in Karnal and took our
movement to many states and cities
that witnessed Laser-Run competition
for the first time. We attracted more
than 200 new athletes to our sport
and especially the younger
generations.
In other good news for our
development, our pentathletes
participated in Open KYZ
Championships, Asian Modern
Pentathlon Championships, Modern
Pentathlon World Cup, where we saw
some remarkable efforts and results.
At the pinnacle of our sporting
movement in 2018 our athletes proved
once again that they are operating at a
very high level. Many new and
improving athletes challenged the
established order, and I was very happy
to see athletes from more and new
districts and different continents
reaching the podium.
I was very proud of their performances
and the spirit of fair play which was, as
always, a hallmark of all competitions.
Athletes are the base and the backbone
of our movement. The better they
perform and present Modern Pentathlon
and our other UIPM Sports, the more
our Association is respected and
honored in the Olympic Movement.
I would like to congratulate our former
National General Secretary Sh. Namdev
Shirgaonkar for his appointment as the
General Secretary of Asian Modern
Pentathlon Confederation (AMPC) as
well as the Joint Secretary of Indian
Olympic Association (IOA).
