Parenting a child tends
to bring up issues we
had lay dormant within
ourselves from our own
childhood.
We tend to lash out and
respond as we were
parented.
You?re doing a
magnificent job of
choosing a new path for
you and your Little. The
times today don?t make
it easy. We seem to
have everything
working against us.
That?s why you?re the
Mom Warrior and your
Love will see you
through. All you need is
a little bit of help.
So here?s 5 very
practical things you can
do when that tantrum
hits to handle it
awesomely and have it
turn into a bonding
moment instead of a
relationship killer.
Just take a look at
where those tantrums
typically hit and let it be
your little reminder
about what to do.
(P.S. this also works
great for ADULTS that
are having TANTRUMS,
like a husband) ;)
St ep 1. Em pat hize
While Nam ing The
Em ot ion (if you know
it ? if you don?t know For example...
it , just em pat hize.)
When your beautiful now. I understand
Did you use your words m ore (t he biggest
to try to convince her t hing t hey need t o
NOT to be hungry? know is t hat t hey
aren?t alone.)
No! You didn?t blame
the crying on HER. You say:
You blamed it on the "I can see that you?re
hunger. (then of course angry now. I won?t let
you probably fed her you be alone with that
and soothed her feeling.
because you?re an
amazing Mom!)
Mommy is here for you.
When you cool down
Same lesson here. you won?t be angry
Don?t blame the kiddo.
anymore and we?ll talk
Blame the emotion! 7
23
about how you will
handle this better next
time instead of
dumping your cheerios
on the floor."
St ep 3: Mirror your
child so t hat she has a
fram e of reference for
t hat em ot ion.
?Your face looks like this.
Your arms are doing this.
You want to hit stuff and
take out your anger on
the dog. I understand ya,
kid! When Mommy gets
angry, she wants to (x)
There?s much better ways
to release that anger
than that though and I?m
going to show you!
