The Gail Borden Public Library 

newsletter will now include City of Elgin news. 

Why? Because we try to do what is best for 

our community and we thought it made 

sense. When we heard that there was a need 

for the City to send out printed news, we 

asked whether they would be interested in 

space in the Library newsletter. 

Last year, in order to save money, the 

Library reduced the number of pages in its 

newsletter. We made those pages available 

to the City so that their news can get to you 

with no additional postage cost to either 

organization. 

The City will pay for the additional printing 

costs. Although the Library and the City 

are separate taxing bodies, we partner on 

many valuable projects. We expect that this 

newsletter share will be another one of those. 

Hopefully you will find that this is convenient 

for you. If you have any comments, please

birthday of the naming of Gail Borden Public Library. 

It was on February 22, 1894, after the gift of the 

Scofield Mansion on Spring Street by the Church 

brothers (stepsons of milk entrepreneur 

Gail Borden) that the Elgin Township Library 

became forever known as the Gail Borden Public 

Library. Cake and games are on the menu.

We need your books! 

We accept new and used books and 

audiovisual materials at the Donation 

Drop Box that is conveniently located 

on the North side of the Main Library 

building. If you have any items to 

donate, please drop them off! Items will 

be used to enhance library collections 

or sold in Gail’s Sales to help fund 

exhibits and reading initiatives for the 

community. 

As a correction to a misprint in our last 

newsletter, we wanted to thank Annual 

Book Sale Co-Chairs Laura Zook and 

Janet Pritza for the Foundation’s Book
