January at Theatre Royal Bury St
Edmunds kicks 2019 off in style with the
ongoing performances of pantomime, a
footie-themed fundraiser and then the
premiere of a brand new play.
Sleeping Beauty has been dazzling audiences
with fun, frolics and magical mischief over the
Christmas season and there are still two weeks of
performances to go. Set in the medieval kingdom of
Burytonia, the story follows Princess Aurora who has
been cursed by the wicked fairy
Carabosse, on her 16th birthday
Aurora will prick her finger on
a spinning wheel and die! How
will Nanny Fanny, Grub the
Kitchen Boy, Prince Florin, Fairy
Fortune, King Edmund and
Rupert the Royal Announcer
deal with this malicious magic?
Come along on the adventure
to find out, you’ll meet questing
knights, mythical beasts and even take a journey
beneath the earth! Theatre Royal’s traditional family
pantomime is a treat for everyone, performances
continue until Sun 13 Jan. There is also a Relaxed
Performance on Fri 11 Jan at 1.30pm which is
Autism and Dementia Friendly, please call the

The Ipswich Town Legends return to the theatre for
another lively and unmissable evening of stories and
anecdotes about the club and their careers and we
welcome ITFC’s Matt Holland to the theatre for the
very first time. Join Bryan Hamilton, Terry Butcher
and Matt Holland as they share their stories with
Theatre Royal audiences. This evening is guaranteed
to entertain fans of the club, both young and old
– join us for another superb evening with some of
ITFC’s best-loved players for a night of all things
football! Book early to avoid disappointment. This
is a fundraiser for the theatre (Registered Charity
Number 242977) and limited tickets are also
available to meet the players after the show for a
drink. Thu 17 Jan, 7.30pm.
Rounding off the month Theatre Royal
Bury St Edmunds is delighted to present
the premiere of a funny, charming and
genuinely thought provoking bold new
play – The Wisdom Club by Danusia
Iwaszko, writer of A Labour of Love, 2015.
When Susanna tells her mother Megan
she no longer wants her to look after the
children, Megan can’t help but feel out of
a job. If she’s not being a mother or a grandmother,
then who and what is she?
If retired brewery worker, Lenny knew his retirement
was going to be so long he would have started
another career. Ex hospital worker, Rani, is on a
mission; these friends need to protest and step out
of the shadows. This is grey power, not girl power.
The Wisdom Club runs from Wed 30 Jan until Sat
9 Feb and there is an Audio Described & Captioned
Performance Sat 9 Feb at 3pm, with an optional
Touch Tour before the show at 2pm.
