Founders Passing 

Dear Travel Friends, 

On Nov. 7, 2018, I got the call no one wants. 

“Your father is dying, come quickly.” 

I arrived shortly after only to find Dad had 

slipped away peacefully minutes before. Of 

course there was a wave of emotions that came 

over me as I held my Dad’s hand. He was a 

rock, a provider, a caring and fun father all in 

one. And he really loved travel and Allied Tour. 

JANUARY 2019

My Dad, Doyle Busskohl, started Allied Tour 

in 1962. As one of the owners of Arrow Stage 

Lines, he was always looking for ways to expand 

the charter business. So he started Allied Tour. 

The first tours went to the Seattle World’s Fair. 

In those days they didn’t need to make hotel 

reservations. They just showed up at the hotel 

and got rooms. This almost always worked 

except maybe once or twice. In those times, 

well, it made for some interesting roommate 

situations with other passengers. 

Dad will be greatly missed by our family and 

employees. Mom passed away earlier in 

Feb. of 2018 so all of this combined for much 

heartache. But our hope is in the One who 

promises eternal life to all who believe in Him. 

Our separation will only be temporary. 

Dad always said “Travel when you can.” So I 

hope you’ll take my Dad’s advice and travel with 

Allied in 2019. You’ll see some amazing places, 

taste some delightful local cuisine, experience 

some adventure and make new friends. And 

we’ll take care of you, just the way Dad would 

have wanted it.

A TASTE OF SCOTLAND 

EDINBURGH, GLASGOW AND THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS 

This Scottish experience gives you a taste of Scotland’s beauty and history. We first embark 

on a guided tour of Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. Looming over the city is Edinburgh Castle, 

home to Scotland’s crown jewels and the Stone of Destiny, used in the coronation of Scottish 

rulers. Calton Hill is topped with monuments and memorials. We then travel north to Inverness 

on Scotland’s northeast coast, where the River Ness meets the Moray Firth. It’s the largest 

city and the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. Its Old Town features 19th-century 

Inverness Cathedral, the mostly 18th-century Old High Church and an indoor Victorian Market 

selling food, clothing and crafts. Our tour ends in Glasgow, a port city on the River Clyde in

Henderson Mennonite Heritage Museum & Park, Henderson, NE 

FROM RUSSIA TO HENDERSON - SPEND THE DAY THE MENNONITE WAY 

Henderson’s Mennonite immigrants left Russia and settled on the plains of Nebraska in 1874 for religious 

freedom. Who were these believers and what is their connection to the Amish and Mennonites of today? While 

visiting Henderson Mennonite Heritage Museum and Park, visitors will experience personal stories of these 

Anabaptist settlers, hear a bit of their Low-German language and indulge in ethnic desserts and a delectable 

Mennonite meal. A local place of worship featuring 23 stained glass windows and a 2,200 pipe organ will offer 

a spiritual experience never to be forgotten. Unique guided storytelling throughout the museum’s many eclectic 

historical buildings will bring to life the history of the Mennonite faith and what it means to be a Mennonite today.

Our day begins with a fascinating peek under those 19th century dresses using original undergarment artifacts 

from the Stuhr Museum’s collection. Undergarments were the foundation for the ‘in style’ fashions such as hoops, 

bustles and corsets that today resemble torture devices. After this interesting program, you will have time to 

stroll through the stunning Stuhr building to see how the seven million dollar renovation reflects her true beauty. 

Can you guess what inspired the name Kinkaider? The Michelson building has quite the past having housed 

many legal business and a few not so legal enterprises. Learn about the working girls from the brothels upstairs. 

A delicious lunch will be served at this location. After lunch, stroll and shop “Railside,” Grand Island’s official 

downtown historic district. The art scene is vivid and varied. Our next stop is the Chicken Coop, an interesting and 

informative location. Then it’s on to Studio K. Grand Island at this moment has twenty sets of large painted wings 

adorning buildings throughout the community. This is artist Karen Neppl’s gift to Grand Island. Karen will serve as 

step-on guide. We end the day with a light dinner at the famous Chocolate Bar.

tour guide will tell tales of early civil war vignettes that bring history to life. They will share fascinating facts about 

their community. We will also have guided tours of the Weston Historical Museum and an Antebellum home. Last

2. If space is available, the appropriate tour deposit is required 

within seven (7) days after making your reservation. Please ask your 

reservationist for deposit amounts. You will be sent a confirmation of 

your deposit once your payment is received. 

Tour Inclusions 

Motor coach transportation, airfare, cruise, and rail transportation as stated 

in the itinerary, hotel accommodations, all admissions and meals per itinerary, 

all taxes for included items, gratuities for step-on guides and wait staff (for 

included meals), luggage handling at hotels when available, and service of a 

professional tour director (see cruises and international tours for tour director

Traveler Conduct & Special Needs 

Tours are fun, but the enjoyment of the tour is based on everyone 

being friendly and cooperative. Allied reserves the right to accept 

or decline any passenger on any tour if Allied Tour determines a 

passenger would be detrimental to the tour. Once a tour departs, 

any passenger disruptive to the group may be asked to leave the 

tour. Expenses to return home would be the responsibility of the 

passenger. No refunds will be issued for unused portions of the tour. 

Please notify us of any special needs at the time of reservation. 

We will make all reasonable efforts to assist with your travel 

arrangements. However, it is strongly recommended that a traveling 

companion come along to help with any special needs of anyone 

with a disability. Allied’s tour directors have responsibilities for 

the entire group and can’t provide one-on-one care. This includes 

boarding of motor coaches, airplanes, cruise ships, etc. and 

traversing hotels, restaurants, attractions, or other personal needs,

Single Travelers 

Single travelers are guaranteed one seat on the motor coach and 

may be seated next to another traveler if the tour is full. 

Inspiration & Faith 

Due to tour schedules, we are unable to make any special provisions 

for worship services. Many tour directors share a “Thought for the 

Day,” verses of inspiration, or a short prayer to start the day.
