CAMPING
People who like to sleep under the stars will find a range
of camping options, from county-owned land to state and
national forests, as well as privately owned and operated
campgrounds. Options include backcountry wilderness
campsites and campgrounds with a full range of amenities,
from single sites to larger campgrounds with more than 75
sites. In addition to several canoe camping sites along the
Wisconsin River, Vilas County has recently developed and
enhanced these camping areas. Find more at vilas.org.
TORCH LAKE CAMPGROUND AND RV PARK

Discover a campground that is perfect for families with
a travel trailer, RV or tent. This campground is located
on 39-acre Torch Lake, offering a beautiful backdrop for
your camping adventure. Here, you’re just a short walk
from the beach, giving you easy access to an afternoon
of relaxation on the water and a front row seat to a
fabulous Northwoods sunset.
The campground offers modern amenities such as water,
electric, flush toilets, showers, dumping station and WiFi.
Take advantage of the picnic area featuring horseshoe pits
and tables, so you can have a fun, leisurely day without
leaving the campground. Anglers can go after the largemouth
bass that are common in the lake. Bring your
four-wheeler—the campground has direct access to the
Vilas County ATV/UTV trail system.
TAMARACK SPRINGS CAMPGROUND

Unplug and escape to this beautifully rustic campground.
Tamarack Creek, which anchors this picturesque campground,
winds throughout the area and provides a tranquil soundtrack
to your camping getaway. Fall asleep to the sound of the
bubbling creek, and in the morning, grab your gear and
fish this top-notch trout stream.
The campground accommodates tents and small trailers,
featuring a campground host and nine sites spread along
both sides of the creek—six on the north side and three
on the south side.

blueberries; worth every back-breaking minute when you serve
them over your morning oatmeal or better yet, serving up that
first delicious piece of wild blueberry pie. There’s NOTHING like it!
RIVER ROAD EQUESTRIAN CAMPGROUND

The River Road Equestrian Campground is an equestrian’s
perfect retreat. Connectivity with three horseback riding
trails makes this campground an excellent hub for exploring
Vilas County. Enjoy a relaxing night of camping before heading
out for a day of tranquil riding through the area’s winding
paths and lush forests. Then at the end of the day, refresh
and recharge at this unique campground that accommodates
your equestrian friend. You’ll feel right at home.
River Road is the only campground of its kind in Vilas County.
It’s located at the trailhead of the Torch Lake equestrian
loop, which provides access to over 19 miles of well-marked
trails. The loop includes the Torch Lake Trails, Ski Hill Trails
and the Pioneer Creek Trail. You can ride to Conover and find
dining spots that have hitching posts outside.
