She came up with her store’s
concept from her travels, which
included a visit with her friends
to a San Francisco boutique.
There, they would be able to have a latte
as well as shop.
"I just wanted a little community
aspect to a boutique with unique items
and just a place where people could
connect and shop," Harsch said.
Her first location was in Manchesterby-the-Sea,
where she operated for five
years before closing in 2017.
"The main challenge was being
one of the first stores," Harsch said of
MarketStreet Lynnfield. "There was only
a handful of stores. It just took a little
longer for the crowds to get there."
Harsch, 52, has seen the outdoor
mall's growth, and an increase in female
entrepreneurs. In the past several
months, Southern Tide and Scout
& Molly's, two more female-owned
businesses, have opened. Others include
Pretty Poppy, Pia, Fit Revolution and
Solstice Power Yoga.
"While we have always valued
female-owned businesses, we have
certainly seen their presence grow at
Sarro, general manager of MarketStreet
Lynnfield, said in a statement. "We're
thrilled to be a destination that
empowers female entrepreneurs with
eight locally-based, female businesses
here. MarketStreet Lynnfield can
certainly attest to what study after
study has demonstrated: female-owned
businesses in any sector enhance culture,
innovation, leadership and performance."
Between food, retail, fitness and
entertainment, there are more than 80
businesses at MarketStreet Lynnfield.
Despite the increase, Sarro said there
hasn't been a conscious effort to draw in
more women.
Maggie Kopnisky owns two shops at
MarketStreet. The 28-year-old opened
Pink Parkway, a signature store of the
Lilly Pulitzer brand, three years ago and
Southern Tide, another signature store,
this fall.
Pink Parkway features women's
clothing, while Southern Tide is
predominantly geared toward men. Her
stores are located almost next to each
other with one business in between.
