PJ Library in CNY happenings<br />

PJ families and the JCC’s Columbus Day<br />

school-age vacation campers met up on<br />

Oct. 8 at the East Syracuse Home Depot for<br />

a special event. Children built their very<br />

own set of wooden book ends. This is the<br />

second year PJ Library has collaborated<br />

with Home Depot to create a special<br />

holiday related project for kids to build<br />

themselves. Using wood, hammers and<br />

nails everyone built a set of book ends<br />

which they could decorate and use to<br />

hold their collection of PJ Library books<br />

at home. Kids love using ‘grown up’ tools<br />

to create something useful, and they were<br />

excited to build something from scratch<br />

and feel proud of their creations.<br />

Over the month of October, we asked<br />

families to bring in extra PJ books to<br />

donate to help North Carolina families and<br />

Jewish institutions rebuild their PJ Library<br />

collections in the aftermath of Hurricane<br />

Florence. In times when families have lost<br />

so much, the comfort of being able to read<br />

a beloved book with your children is such a<br />

comfort. As a community we sent 70 books<br />

to North Carolina and have collected<br />

many more books to be used for future<br />

donations of this nature. We are always<br />

accepting donations of PJ Library books<br />

and appreciate your help very much.<br />

Library musician, Jason Mesches. This<br />

will be a free interactive concert geared<br />

towards young children and families that<br />

you won’t want to miss! Jason is coming all<br />

the way from the West Coast to join us and<br />

his music will be featured on PJ Library<br />

CDs that some PJ families will receive in<br />

December. You can also listen to Jason’s<br />

music anytime by downloading the PJ<br />

Library radio app!<br />

On Monday, Jan. 21 from 10:30 a.m.–<br />

noon PJ Our Way will hold a special<br />

book club program for Tu B’shevat at the<br />

Destiny USA Apple Store. This event is<br />

geared towards 8-11 year olds. We will be<br />

reading a short story together and then<br />

using technology to create our very own<br />

story. This event is free and registration is<br />

The Neighborhood Advisor program is<br />

part of the Onondaga County Department<br />

of Adult & Long Term Care Services.<br />

PJ Library® (PJ for pajamas) is a nationally<br />

acclaimed literacy program started by the<br />

Harold Grinspoon Foundation that gives free<br />

Jewish bedtime stories, CDs and DVDs to<br />

families raising Jewish children. The PJ Library<br />

CNY chapter is a program of the JCC of Syracuse<br />

and supported by the Pomeranz, Shankman<br />

and Martin Charitable Foundation, Jewish<br />

Federation of Central New York, Congregation<br />

Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas, Shaarei Torah<br />

Orthodox Congregation of Syracuse, Syracuse<br />

Hebrew Day School, Temple Adath Yeshurun<br />

and Temple Concord. The PJ Library in CNY<br />

serves children from 6 months to 8-years old<br />

in Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego<br />

Counties.<br />
