Beginners running program starts January 9<br />

The Syracuse Chargers Track Club’s<br />

Everyone Can Run Beginners Running<br />

<strong>Program</strong> starts on January 9, 20<strong>19</strong> at<br />

the Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community<br />

Center’s Neulander Family Sports &<br />

Fitness Center. Greg Tuttle of the Syracuse<br />

Chargers, a USA Track & Field-certified<br />

coach, will lead the<br />

sessions which will<br />

be held every week<br />

on Wednesday<br />

from 5 p.m. to<br />

6:30 p.m. through<br />

February 27. The<br />

free eight-week<br />

program will be<br />

held at the Fitness<br />

Center’s indoor<br />

track.<br />

Patrick Scott, the JCC’s sports and<br />

fitness director, says this program is for<br />

everyone and that people of all fitness<br />

levels are welcome.<br />

“The idea is to learn how to run<br />

properly,” he says. “The strength of<br />

your leg muscles, your bones, your body<br />

posture, your gait—all of these play a huge<br />

role in building your stamina. By the end<br />

of the program, you will be able to run five<br />

kilometers with relative ease.”<br />

The class will start with walking and<br />

the number of running intervals will<br />

increase every week<br />

on a set schedule.<br />

Each participant<br />

will also be given a<br />

Syracuse Chargers<br />

pedometer and a<br />

two-week trial pass<br />

to the JCC’s Fitness<br />

Center.<br />
