We opened our salon space five years ago, taking a huge leap of faith on a blank canvas, making it our own, <strong>and</strong> adding a balcony overlooking Sutter Street. We’ve continued building our salon culture <strong>and</strong> community ever since. How are you involved with both the community <strong>and</strong> your customer? We love getting involved with any <strong>and</strong> all of the Historic <strong>Folsom</strong> events— from hosting carolers for the Christmas tree lighting to the Sutter Street Sip <strong>and</strong> Stroll. Our clients love that our location brings amazing activities <strong>and</strong> events that they’re able to participate in firsth<strong>and</strong>. Why is your staff the best in the business? Our staff is, h<strong>and</strong>s down, the best in the biz. These women are talented, hardworking, <strong>and</strong> kind, with a little sassy kick to boot. Where do you go when the going gets tough? I have an amazing group of friends who are there through thick <strong>and</strong> thin. Also, kayaking on the river is music to my soul. What’s your hidden talent? Cooking <strong>and</strong> creating yummy new recipes. What’s your biggest job perk? Working with fun, inspiring people. What’s your favorite place to eat out locally? Marly <strong>and</strong> Moo. Where do you <strong>and</strong> your family go locally to have fun? We’re so fortunate to live near the Johnny Cash Trail <strong>and</strong> head out there as often as we can. What’s your favorite local business other than your own? True North Cycle. And finally, customer service is…? Everything. Clients mean the world to us, <strong>and</strong> we make every effort to provide them with the best of the best. Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you? JJ Music offers private lessons in guitar, ukulele, piano <strong>and</strong> more at many different schools—College of Marin, Gateway Seminary, Summit Christian School, Marin Horizon School, <strong>and</strong> Marin Christian Academy—<strong>and</strong> locally. I started the business because I was grateful for my early education in music. Growing up, I experienced a lot of frustrations playing sports; as a result, I turned to music, which gave me a new passion for life. I now make a full-time living doing it <strong>and</strong> believe all children should have the opportunity to learn music. Who is your role model in business or in life, <strong>and</strong> why? My father. He’s a musician <strong>and</strong> has a wealth of knowledge in business. Where do you go when the going gets tough? I turn to prayer <strong>and</strong> to the Bible. I seek God when the going gets tough…<strong>and</strong> go to the gym! What’s your hidden talent? I love skiing. What’s your biggest job perk? Doing what I love—teaching <strong>and</strong> playing music. What’s your favorite place to eat out locally? Hisui Sushi. Where do you <strong>and</strong> your family go locally to have fun? California Family Fitness <strong>and</strong> the park. What’s your favorite local event that you go to? Open mic on Wednesday nights at Gaslight Co. on Sutter Street. What’s your favorite local business other than your own? I love BusyKidz. If you could be in any other profession, what would it be? A college professor at a musical institute.
