unending odds along every man’s avenue. The extravagance mixture of passion and 

chasing dreams draws a harmonious trails, which deeply delivers joyful clocks. 

Tracking the memories collected throughout the years, one could embrace the depth 

of the truth. In this issue, Village Pipol speaks the complexity of every story’s uphill 

hence reflecting the importance of the kickoff. However, what makes a journey more 

memorable is the process towards the fulfilment of its climax. It is simply the drive which 

strengthens the currents. 

Our November 2018 cover stars Devon Seron and Kiko Estrada generously shared a 

piece of them, tailoring the incomparable bond between them. Their special friendship 

is exceptional like fire and ice: Devon is a ball of energy, burning gently and bright. Kiko 

is cool and rational with foresight way beyond his age. These two people, two extremes 

and two ends of the spectrum, have somehow found themselves in the same path in the 

crossroads of an ever-shifting industry. Heads have started turning and the spotlight 

shines on them.

Experience Love just like the Rising Sun! 

Engagement of Engr. Emilson C. Gole Cruz and Engr. Kathleen Anonuevo in Japan 

Kathleen and I have been together for 

almost nine years now. We went in the 

same University and met her there in 2009, 

and we became a couple in February 2010. 

Last 2015, we decided to pursue our careers 

as Civil Engineers here in Singapore. You 

know the story for sure – being an OFW is 

never easy. And to pamper ourselves, we 

try to travel as often as we can. 

Travelling is more than just a way to destress. 

It helps our relationship grow in 

many ways – we see more of our strengths 

and weaknesses, learn to appreciate those, 

while appreciating other countries’ beauty 

and culture. Travel is a good way to open 

your mind, and doing it with somebody else 

can help you to see things more clearly. 

Everybody sees the world in a different way 

and sharing that with someone can be a 

profound moment.

Being in an almost nine-year relationship, 

Kathleen and I have been talking about 

getting married quite often. Everytime we 

talk about it, I knew I need to make a move 

to make it happen. I need to propose to her. 

I need to ask her to marry me! 

Kathleen really wants to visit Japan ever 

since so I told her we will travel to Japan 

this year. That would be the perfect place 

for me to propose. 

We arrived in Japan on a Saturday 

afternoon. We had a great bowl of 

authentic Ramen and Japanese Dumplings 

after the long flight from Singapore. 

We roamed around the busy streets of 

Shinjuku where we saw Godzilla’s giant 

head towering over the Toho Building in the 

Shinjuku Ward. That next day is the most 

special day I have been waiting for. 

One of the most important parts of the 

proposal are the photos. Luckily, I came 

across Hiroya’s Instagram page (@_h1roya) 

and asked him if he can help me with the 

proposal. A Japanese student, Hiroya was 

so kind to help and offers his photography 

services at a very reasonable price. 

I chose the Sky Deck of Mori Art Museum 

at Roponggi Hills, which is located at the 

center of Tokyo. With the height of 270 

meters above sea level, it will give you the 

majestic view of the Tokyo metropolis, 

overlooking Tokyo Tower on one side and 

Mt. Fuji on the other. 

Tokyo City 

Kathleen already knew that we would be 

having a photo session as I told her that I 

want to have decent travel photos (learning 

from our Thailand trip last year few good 

photos), but she, of course, wasn't aware of 

the proposal. We climbed up to the top of 

the building, up to its helipad. Luckily, there 

were no other people yet as we where there 

as soon they opened the sky deck area at 

11AM. As we were looking at the horizon of 

Tokyo City, I started talking about us, and 

that prior to our trip, I spoke to her parents 

and siblings about our future. I dropped 

down my knee in front of her and asked her 

to marry me. Kathleen looked at me, saw 

tears on her eyes, as she said yes. 


Sensoji Buddhist Temple in Asakusa 

After the proposal, we continued the engagement shoot in Asakusa. I 

booked for a pair of kimonos and we visited Sensoji Buddhist temple. 

It is one of Tokyo's most popular temples and has been rebuilt 

countless times since it was founded in 628, making it Tokyo's oldest 

temple site. We had fun acting like Authentic Japanese in Kimonos, 

enjoying the atmosphere of the Japanese culture. You may also visit 

the Tokyo Skytree, the world's highest free-standing broadcasting 

tower. 

Shibuya Crossing and Hachiko’s Statue 

If you are in Tokyo, it is a must to visit and experience crossing the 

streets of Shibuya, the busiest intersection in the world. You may also 

visit the statue of Japan’s famous loyal dog, Hachiko, which is just 

around the corner of Shibuya. 

Hitachi Seaside Park in 

Ibaraki 

Hitachi Seaside Park is located at Ibaraki 

Prefecture on the eastern part of Japan, 

along the Pacific Ocean side of the 

Japanese coast. From the center of Tokyo 

City, you have to travel around three (3) 

hours to Katsuta Station via Rapid Train 

(covered by the JR Pass), and a short bus 

ride to Hitachi Seaside Park. After the 

wedding proposal, I can say that this is the 

highlight of our Japan trip. 

Hitachi Seaside Park features the red 

Kochia plants on the Miharashi-no-oka hill 

in autumn. In mid-October, the red autumn 

foliage of kochia will cover the entire hill. 

The view is really amazing and it felt like we 

were just dreaming. It is beyond what I have 

imagined. It is worth a visit! Just make sure 

that the Kochia flowers are in bloom as its 

season differs a little every year depending 

on the weather. 



Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea 

We will always be kids at heart. We’ve always wanted to visit the 

happiest place on earth since we were kids, and growing up, we 

never thought that we can. Without any exaggeration, we are both in 

tears while watching the firework show ‘cause, indeed, it is a dream 

come true. 

Kyoto 

Kyoto is as tranquil as one could ever imagine Japan to be. As 

you wander along its streets, you soon begin to discover the 

history, culture, and traditions that live on in Japan to this day. 

To preserve its heritage, no building or structure must be built 

higher that the Kyoto Tower. 

From Tokyo, we went to Kyoto via the famous bullet trains or 

Shinkansen, which is also covered by JR Pass. Bullet trains 

cut the nine-hour journey down to 2.5 hours. Aside from 

being insanely fast, Shinkansen are spacious, has airplane-like 

interiors, and has toilets inside, too. 

Along the way to Kyoto, you will also see the majestic view of 

Mt Fuji. It is so surreal to see her beauty as if she welcomes 

you with a warm hug (beyond its snow cap) to the beautiful 

Land of the Rising Sun. While in Kyoto, we stayed in a Ryokan, 

a traditional and historical Japanese-style inn. 

Arashimaya Bamboo Forest and 

Fushimi Inari Taira 

Nature lovers will enjoy the bamboo groves at Arashimaya 

Bamboo Forest. As one of the most popular places to visit in 

Kyoto, it gets busy quickly so get an early start to your day 

to enjoy some quiet time before the crowds arrive. We went 

there around 8AM so we were able to capture photos without 

the crowd. Kyoto is also home to the famous Fushimi Inari 

Taira – an incredible shrine of thousands of red torii gates that 

line the 4 kilometre stretch to the sacred Mt. Inari. 


Nara Park 

From Fushimi Inari, you need to travel around one (1) hour by train to 

JR Nara station (covered by your JR Pass), and few-minute bus ride 

to go to Nara Park which is located at the foot of Mount Wakakusa. 

The park is home to around 1200 freely roaming deer. Nara's deer 

are surprisingly tame, although they can be aggressive if they think 

you will feed them. Deer crackers are for sale around the park which 

cost 150Yen for 10pcs, and some deer have learned to bow to visitors 

to ask to be fed. As they might chase you for deer biscuits, put your 

both hands up in the air to tell them you don’t have biscuits anymore. 

Don’t forget to gently take a selfie with the deer! They are used to it. 

Universal Studios Japan 

The potterhead in me was screaming soooooo 

loud! The special part of Universal Studios Japan 

is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and we 

head straight to that as soon as we entered 

USJ. We were lucky enough to queue up and 

waited only for 30 minutes for “Harry Potter 

and the Forbidden Journey” ride which is inside 

the Hogwarts castle.Queues can be so insanely 

long but still, Harry Potter fans are willing to line 

up for even 3 hours. Hogsmead area is picture 

perfect and do not miss the taste of infamous 

Butterbeer. Yes! I bought Harry Potter’s magical 

wand at Ollivanders. You can even perform 

magic and cast spells using that wand at 

different magical points within Hogsmead. Swish 

and Flick! 

We definitely fell in love with Japan. More than 

just its culture and breathtaking nature, I am 

in awe on how amazing Japanese people are. 

I’ve dealt with different nationalities and races 

as I am working overseas, and I can say that 

Japanese are the most polite people I have met. 

They are honest, generous, and always willing 

to help. 

Japan will always have a big space in our hearts 

being part of our story we continuously write. n

When an unstoppable force meets an 

immovable object, there will be reckoning. 

Like a heatwave in the middle of a blizzard, 

such phenomenon simply does not happen. These 

occurrences are beyond the natural that one would 

think it’s straight out of pulp fiction. When the

When the two stars enter the 

room, they draw the same 

kind of attention but with 

different forms of energy. When Devon 

glides through the doors, the room 

instantly glows. She greets you with a 

bright smile and chats her way through 

the day. Her presence is so contagious 

that everyone within a mile radius could 

not help but feel the same electric 

feeling. You get butterflies in your 

stomach for no apparent reason, but 

you realize the reason is that she's in 

front of you, ready with her beso. 


Kiko, on the other hand, bears 

resemblance to a whisp of cold 

air. The moment he walks in, 

hairs stand up and heads turn to him. 

That's how disabling his good looks 

are -- you get stunned and you get 

fixated, and then you realize you have 

been staring. He looks at you with his 

deep set eyes and you can't help fee 

vulnerable. He nods at you and shakes 

your hand, and you then find out you've 

turned cold because the moment his 

hand shakes yours, you could almost 

hear the static hiss. 

And then there it goes. Kiko 

nonchalantly walks to Devon and plants 

a kiss on her cheek. "Hey, beautiful."

When their personalities meet, 

there comes a spark we often 

see with destined bodies. 

As the sun shines, the moon glows. 

As day comes, night follows. When 

Devon and Kiko come together, it's 

like watching fire and ice meld in a 

lucid flux. Neither one is too strong, 

neither one overpowers the other. It’s 

a dance, a tango, a waltz of some sort 

and we’re left watching in fascination 

how the pieces fall into place. 


The two actors have known each other 

early in their careers. They were in the 

same TV show and have interacted 

several times on, and off the camera over the 

years. As the intricacies of youth go, both of 

them remember being makulit. They were at 

the point of their lives when everything was 

new and they let things come. Now, their 

embers have become forest fires and snowball 

fights have turned to an avalanche. 

They understand each other better now and 

their desire to uplift themselves have become 

the priority. It is rare to find chemistry that 

clicks. People have accepted and enjoyed their 

team up that they feel that they should give 

back to the fans. A passion project is on its way 

in the form of a short film and they’re excited 

to share it. Another movie is also in the works 

which both of them hope would be something 

new and challenging. 







Friendship trialed by fire and 

left to cool and harden is 

a friendship that will last a 

lifetime. Kiko finds Devon’s aura 

something to look forward to. As he 

puts it, she is someone who’ll go a 

long way if she really wanted to. He 

finds her humility a standout because 

not everyone with her caliber can 

keep their heads off the clouds. 

Devon, on the other hand, sees how 

passionate Kiko is with his craft. His 

determination and affection draw her 

to him, but his geeky disposition and 

gentleness make him a keeper.

It’s a rare sight to see when polar 

opposites find common ground. 

It’s even more rare to find that such 

extremes can even blend well at 

all. Fire burns strong in the deepest 

arctics; ice forms hard in the harshest 

desert. 

Devon’s warmth and Kiko’s chill make 

them calm and collected. n

art of creativity infused with practicability perfect for this season. Word on the street, it’s all about

A 

neutral color palette works best in layers. You 

can go for subtle contrasts or use monochrome 

as well. It’s not groundbreaking by any sense, 

but this simple and refined look—the classics—gives 

us a big exhale. 

Incorporating different textures and fabrics will add 

depth and dimensions to your overall monochrome 

look. Try mixing things up like wool with silk or leather 

with cotton. Otherwise, it can look flat and overwhelming. 

Even layered knits look cool, so long as we keep the 

individual items in check. Match heavier plus lighter, 

or different lengths and colors to ensure the layers are 

nicely separated.

subtle pattern, in harmony with 

your color palette, can be an

What seems to be conventionally 

formal can be toned down with 

a basic tee. As long as the colors 

don’t clash! 

It’s no secret Seoul has the most well-dressed male population swathe 

in relaxed sophistication. Imitation may be the sincerest form of 

flattery, but having your own identity is a masterpiece on its own. n

Run 4 Ur Life PH Presents: 

Shake, Rattle & Run 2018!

It’s not every day you get to see children of 

the night and saviors of light come together 

in one place. Monsters, zombies, princesses, 

superheroes, and villains from far and wide in 

all shapes, sizes, and ages have gathered for 

one frightful night to join a merry cause — to 

run for their lives. 

Coined as Shake, Rattle & Run!, the Run 4 Ur 

Life PH event is the brainchild of Red Sports 

PH by Red Entertainment. It is for the benefit 

of Dialysis PH Support Group, Inc. 

The organizers believe that aside from helping 

a great and noble cause, running is beneficial 

for both the mind and the body. As a form of 

aerobic exercise, running helps lower stress 

levels, improves blood circulation, and makes 

you lose weight. 

There were four different run categories: 1K 

(for kids aged 12 years and below), 3K, 5K, and 

10K. Cash prizes, gift packs, and medals were 

awarded to each of the winners and finishers. 

To complete the full Shake, Rattle & Run! 

experience, a twist was made to spice things 

up. Three pitstops were placed within the 

routes to give runners a little scare and to raise 

a bit of hair. Designated in each pitstop were 

zombies, white ladies, and ghouls that shook 

and rattled away. How’s that for a bloodpumping 

funrun? 

After all the screaming and heart-skipping 

running, participants were treated to loot bags 

and goodies from event partners and sponsors. 

There was also a party where the undead and 

the like raved away to cap off the night. 

With 180 registered participants for the 1K 

category; 425 for the 3K; 512 for the 5K; and a 

whopping 1,100 registered participants for 10K, 

Shake, Rattle & Run! was a huge success. 

Run 4 Ur Life PH: Shake, Rattle & Run! 2018 

— the spookiest Halloween funrun and night 

party was held at the Cultural Center of the 

Philippines Complex last October 27, 2018.

Sharp Philippines Joins 

ESGS 2018 as Official Exhibitor 

One of the biggest gaming events in Southeast Asia, 

Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) was held 

in the Philippines last October 26 to 28, 2018 at SMX 

Convention Center, Manila. The three-day event was the largest 

gathering of gamers in the country. 

made a spot in every Filipino household. Nonetheless, SPC 

continue to broaden their horizon in giving the gaming industry 

a better viewing escapade. The AQUOS TV Series’ optimized 

realistic tones for precise color will definitely position itself as

This year, Sharp Philippines Corporation (SPC) became part of 

the ESGS 2018 as one of the official exhibitors along with other 

well-known brands. As part of this, SPC sponsored all the LED 

TV in the said gaming convention. With the latest HDR standards 

of their AQUOS 4K and 8K Series, the gaming experience is on 

the top notch. Coupled with high luminance technology, gamers 

and attendees witnessed a consistently life-like contrast, which

ueen is one of the most celebrated bands in 

the world of rock and roll. With the Bohemian 

QRhapsody coming along to relieve their iconic 

songs, one would instantly become an ultimate fan 

shouting “We. Will. We Will. Rock. You!” out of the 

cinema, stomping their feet with huge claps!

This film talks not only of Freddie Mercury (portrayed 

by Rami Malek) but the humble beginnings of the 

band. You’ll have yourself crushing over Roger Taylor 

(Ben Hardy), Brian May (Gwilym Lee) and the added 

bassist, John Deacon (Joseph Mazello). 

This film depicted how exceptional band the Queen 

was. However, the film was treated with so much 

precautions which confined the storyline in shallow 

phase. It failed to extract the depth and complexity of 

its slope, making the flow to suffer in little rough takes. 

The representation of the firm, seasoned relationship 

among the band members was greatly showed in the 

movie but it bungled to draw the extravagance of their 

legacy. 

As the story progresses, one will understand the love 

and passion they got from the people around them 

- which is more than their claim “we belonged to the 

misfits.. the people who lived in the corner.” More than 

that, the film successfully portrayed the brave and 

momentous journey of the band, crossing boundaries 

with their music in opera, pop and rock all at once. 

The strengthened cinematic accent delivered the 

identical representation of the Live Aid Concert (and 

you’ll gonna wish you were there). It filled everyone’s 

heart with music and warmth seeing the crowd acted 

in unison. THIS IS ACTUALLY A BEAUTIFUL THING 

TO SAVOR. 

Certainly, Rami Malek showed his greatness as an 

actor in the entire movie. His earned reputation 

validated the composite requisition of his character. 

The whole execution greatly painted the a compelling 

stand outside the conventional and stereotypes of the 

main character. HE IS EQUIPPED. 

According to documentaries made for Queen, 

Bohemian Rhapsody was actually Freddie’s confession 

to the world of his true self. The bloody lines weren’t 

meaningless at all but have its own corresponding 

meaning to the people in his life. Take it from the 

line, “Mama, just killed a man”, Mercury was actually 

referring to his former self, a song that was played 

over and over throughout the movie. 

If you’re one music lover who love exploring new 

genres, you’ll be blasting Queen’s hit songs after the 

film.

November 11 as part of their first world tour.

You are definitely living under a rock if you haven’t heard 

of this hit from all-girl ensemble Momoland. With over 

253 million views on YouTube, this music video became a 

viral dance craze in the country, inspiring dance challenge 

videos from K-Pop fans of all ages. 

#5. Ddu-Du Ddu-Du by 

Black Pink 

After a year of absence, Black Pink released Ddu-Du 

Ddu-Du—one of the songs in their new album, Square 

Up. It is currently the second most viewed Korean music 

video within 24 hours of its release on YouTube. It now has 

382million views, and it’s likely to keep on growing as fans 

can’t seem to get enough of this sassy comeback hit.
