Soar in to the
Museum of Aviation
By CHRISTINE HAWLEY
HHJ Staff Writer
“There is always something exciting going on at the
museum,” according to Director of Operations, Jenny Maas.
Regardless of whether you are a Houston County resident
or just passing through, visiting the Museum of Aviation in
Warner Robins is a definite must.
Free to the public and open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m., the museum is located next to Robins Air Force Base
and is easily accessible from both I-16 and I-75 (1942
Heritage Blvd. Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, 31098).
Maas explained, “We have over 85 missiles and aircraft on
display in four exhibit hangars so during hot or cold months
or rain, our museum is a wonderful way to escape the
weather while being provided with free entertainment.” She
continued, “Plan to spend a day visiting us because there is a
lot to see! First time visitors are always overwhelmed by the
magnitude of the size of our amazing museum.”
With four exhibit hangars, Maas stated that their “challenge
is deciding what to refresh, update, or replace first so that we
can keep the experience of visiting the Museum fresh even
for those who visit over and over again.” One of their newest
additions is the “Free Kids Zone on the second floor of our
Century of Flight Hangar which includes a coloring station,
a scavenger hunt, a touch screen tour of the International
Space Station, and a building block station.”
In the past year they have unveiled a newly restored
F-100D, opened a new USAF Security Forces Exhibit, and revitalized
their art gallery, with the help of students from Northside High
School. Maas continued, “One of the most interesting things to see
is the restoration process of our B-17, which is taking place daily in
the WWII Hangar and is open to the public to view.”
