Teacher information
This exposition has been written to persuade the reader that drinking water is essential for a healthy
body.
Answers
We need to drink water.
In an emergency, we could survive for
a few days without food, but without
water, our bodies would be unable
to function. Keep a glass by the tap to
remind you to ‘take a drink’.
We need to drink enough water. It is
recommended that we drink one litre
of water each day. This amount should
be drunk throughout the day, rather
than all at once.
It is important that we drink water
before we feel thirsty. Thirst is the
body’s way of telling us that the
process of dehydration has already
started. Carry a bottle of water with
you at all times and remember, ‘take a
drink’.
(iii) substances – anything of which
a thing is made (analogy:
ingredients in a cake mixture)
(iv) dehydration – losing water
We need to drink water before, during
and after exercise, to replace the fluid
lost through sweating.
We need to drink water
in addition to other
drinks because they
may contain substances
which increase thirst.
For a healthy body, drink
water!
