Joseph Frechette, Ph.D., has worked in the Army<br />

Historical Program since 2000 and has been a staff<br />

historian at the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security<br />

Command since 2011. He received his BA and his MA in<br />

History from the <strong>George</strong> Washington University in 1995<br />

and 1998 respectively, and his Ph.D. from the University<br />

of Maryland College Park, in 2017.<br />

Jerald Glodek was born in Baltimore in 1952. Jerry grew<br />

up with his two sisters Joni and Jaimi on a farm in Severn<br />

that is now the Arundel Forest community. His schooling<br />

included Cardinal Gibbons High School, Anne Arundel<br />

Community College and the University of Maryland<br />

College Park. Out of school, Jerry volunteered and served<br />

two years in the United States Army Field Band at <strong>Fort</strong><br />

<strong>Meade</strong> before going to work at the family farm and store.<br />

He and his wife Debby have lived in Severn most of their<br />

lives, and have two adult sons, Josh and Jeremy, also of<br />

Severn. <strong>The</strong> love of farming still runs in Jerry’s blood, and<br />

his retirement plans include moving to the shore of the<br />

James River in Virginia where he will pursue gardening,<br />

crabbing and fishing.<br />

Charles Hessler is Vice President of the Stoddartsville<br />

Pennsylvania Preservation Society. He also serves as<br />

volunteer accessions manager and collection cataloger<br />

at the Laurel Historical Society, Maryland. In Laurel<br />

and Pennsylvania Mr. Hessler has been involved in the<br />

research and creation of more than ten museum exhibits.<br />

Besides being registrar of the Laurel Historical Society,<br />

he is also an active member of many genealogy-related<br />

organizations.<br />

Don Hirst a former Soundoff! assistant editor, spent<br />

more than 5-1/2 years in Vietnam as a soldier, earning<br />

the Bronze Star for his photography during the Tet<br />

Offensive, and then as a civilian war correspondent. He<br />

was an associate editor for Army Times for nearly 11 years<br />

(where he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for National<br />

Reporting in 1979) and then created Salute magazine,<br />

which he ran as executive editor for 20 years. Before<br />

retiring in 2011, he worked at the Government Printing<br />

Office where he helped to produce the Congressional<br />

Record. He continues to work as a freelance writer and<br />

produces a military history column for each issue of<br />

Salute.<br />

Diana L. Ives was raised and earned her education<br />

globally as a military brat, and then, U.S. Army spouse.<br />

Diana majored in History and Mathematics and taught<br />

professionally before serving as <strong>First</strong> Lady, <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>George</strong><br />

G. <strong>Meade</strong>, Maryland She earned the prestigious Dr.<br />

Mary E. Walker Award, two Outstanding Civilian Service<br />

Awards, and Lifetime Volunteer Award.<br />

Col. John W. Ives (Ret.) was raised and educated in<br />

Texas, enlisted into the U.S. Army in June 1972. He served<br />

on active duty until October 2005, retiring after three<br />

years as installation commander, <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>George</strong> G. <strong>Meade</strong>,<br />

Maryland John continues to advise senior government<br />

and industry leaders. In the private sector, he also serves<br />

on the Intelligence Senior Advisory Council for Nuclear<br />

Surety and as a Board Member National Forensics<br />

Science Technology Center. In addition, COL (Ret) Ives<br />

leads various philanthropic endeavors for veterans and<br />

their families.<br />

Robert Johnson retired as director of the <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Meade</strong><br />

Museum in Oct. 2017 after 34 years of federal service.<br />

Bob started his service at <strong>Fort</strong> <strong>Meade</strong> in 1986 as an<br />

exhibits specialist in 1987.<br />

Dr. Lawrence M. Kaplan assumed responsibility as<br />

command historian for U.S. Army Cyber Command in<br />

November 2011.<br />

His previous positions included serving as the chief<br />

historian, U.S. Missile Defense Agency, Washington,<br />

D.C./Huntsville, Alabama (2003-2011); staff historian,<br />

U.S. Army Center of Military History, Washington,<br />

D.C. (1994-2003); and deputy historian, U.S. Army Field<br />

Artillery Center and <strong>Fort</strong> Sill, Oklahoma (1989-1993).<br />

His professional publications include: author, “E. Lilian<br />
