Abbey Fire Centre’s reputation for no-nonsense
excellence has seen them earn a place as the Midlands’
go-to choice for all things fires.
Run by siblings Kieran Neville and Maria Higginson -
after being established in 1981 by their father Finbarr
Neville - Abbey Fires offer an abundance of experience
and technical knowledge which is second-to-none,
combined with a warm and friendly service which has
seen the company grow over the past 37 years thanks to
word-of-mouth recommendations.
Finbarr was well known within the community as a big
Irish chap with an even bigger personality - to this day,
previous customers will still drop in to see if he is about
for a chat. A builder by trade, having built houses all over
Birmingham including Edgbaston and Four Oaks Park,
to name of couple of places, he settled on creating what
he thought should be the focal point in everyone’s house
- where the warmth is.
During his reign, you could find him sitting with some
graph paper and a pencil - Kieran has inherited his love
of graph paper - designing fireplaces that would then
appear in homes all over the Midlands. He could turn
his hand to anything, and as a result Abbey Fires became
known as the fireplace shop of choice if you wanted a
gas, solid fuel or electric fire. In fact, Abbey Fires were
installing log burners more than 30 years ago, long
before they became popular.
Having worked there from a young age during school
holidays, Kieran and Maria have fire in their blood.
They bring different skills to the table; Kieran is the
HETAS and Gas Safe engineer, and heads up the
installation side of the business, while Maria can be
found running the showroom and marketing side.
Andy makes up the last part of Abbey Fires, on the
installation side of the team. Andy has been with Abbey
Fires in one form or another ever since he left school and
can turn his hand to anything - especially carpentry.
Abbey Fires’ extensive showroom has more than 20
brands to peruse over, meaning the onus is on customer
choice rather than pushing any particular brand. And
from the first enquiry to the final installation, everything
is kept in-house, ensuring that each job is completed to
the same quality standard.
Getting each installation just right is at the heart of
Abbey Fires’ ethos. Sometimes, what a customer
would like, isn’t the right thing for them, given their
circumstances, and Kieran and Maria are always
honest, even to the detriment of doing business with
the customer. They believe honesty is the best and most
appreciated policy.
