CAMBRIDGE BUSINESS PARK
OVERVIEW
In 1985, the largest industrial development project in the City’s history was announced and the
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada facility sparked the development of the Cambridge Business
Park.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada began construction in April 1986 of a one million square foot
world-class automotive assembly plant to produce the 1.6 litre engine and Corolla vehicles for the
North American market.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada is now the largest employer in Cambridge with a 3.1 million
square foot facility employing 4,500 people and manufacturing over 280,000 vehicles in 2006
(Corolla, Matrix and Lexus RX350). Toyota began production of the Matrix in February 2002 and
followed with the production of the Lexus RX350 in the fall of 2003.
With the massive infrastructure requirements needed to serve the Toyota Motor Manufacturing
Canada plant in place in the late 1980’s, the City of Cambridge commenced development of the
Cambridge Business Park.
In 1989, Stage I of the Cambridge Business Park project saw 118 acres of industrial park graded and
serviced and ready for development. In 1998, an additional 60 acres were serviced, rough graded and
available for purchase. In 2000, 130 acres were serviced in the Maple Grove Subdivision for Loblaws
and E.D.Smith. Phase II of the Maple Grove Subdivision comprised of 70 acres of graded serviced
land and was completed in 2002. To date over 1100 acres of industrial land (both privately and
publicly developed) make up the Cambridge Business Park.
The long-term investment potential of the Park is supported by architectural and site design
guidelines. The following pages highlight the strategic location of the Business Park and individual
site configurations.
