Who are the Girl Scouts
of Citrus Alumnae?
There are many adults who have a strong
connection with Girl Scouts. And of course they
would, this is a great organization that impacts
the lives of so many girls and adults every
day. Maybe they were once Girl Scouts, have
volunteered as a Troop Leader, or been involved
in some other way.
Wouldn’t it be great to relive some of those fun
times? To make friends, go on new and exciting
trips, help in a service project, and maybe go
camping? The Girl Scouts of Citrus Alumnae just
might be what you’ve been looking for.
The Girl Scouts of Citrus Alumnae
(GSC Alumnae) was formed to offer
opportunities for adults to stay involved
with Girl Scouts in fun and meaningful
ways. There are GSC Alumnae events, trips and
service projects taking place throughout the
year. There is no membership fee and current
members come from all walks of life. Members
range in age, experience and gender (men can
be part of the group as well).
This group is comprised of adults (18+) who
at some point in their lives were involved with
Girl Scouts. Whether they were Girl Scouts as
kids, served as volunteers for Girl Scouts, or have
worked directly for Girl Scouts; all are considered
Girl Scouts of Citrus Alumnae.
While the group began with a committee of 31
members in January 2017, the membership grew
to 233. Today the group has grown to just over
300 members and look to reach 500 members
by January 2019.
What to Expect
The GSC Alumnae has a set of dedicated
volunteers on the leadership team who plan
events, service projects and trips for the
group. They work in partnership with a Girl
Scouts of Citrus Liaison to ensure there is
council support as well.
Some of the recent fun events included
a hilarious afternoon of Bunco, a friendly
bowling competition session and a
sophisticated traditional tea party.
The GSC Alumnae also ensure to give
back to their community and Girl Scouts
by getting involved in a series of service
projects throughout the year. These included
helping the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council with
cookie drops, paperwork for product sales,
recruitment events and cleanup efforts at
Council facilities.
For those who enjoy traveling, the GSC
Alumnae offer a variety of trips for every
type of adventurer. There is an annual cruise,
short travel destinations and international
destinations. The GSC Alumnae are currently
planning a trip to Costa Rica in June 2019,
which will include exploring the tropical
paradise, bird-watching hikes and a service
project at a local school; all with a full-time bilingual
guide.
In November, the Annual Alumnae
Weekend Retreat combines fun, workshops
and service opportunities at Mah-Kah-Wee,
with a way to connect with other alumnae.
This event allows members to visit the camp
for a day of activities or to just relax with
friends, new and old, for the entire weekend.
