The names of oil and gas pioneers in <strong>Oklahoma</strong> read like a “Who’s Who” in<br />

oil and gas history. J. Paul Getty and T. Boone Pickens became two of the world’s<br />

richest men. Harry Sinclair founded the Sinclair Oil Company. The company that<br />

became Conoco was born in the Osage County oilfields drilled by E. W. Marland.<br />

Robert S. Kerr and Dean A. McGee created Kerr-McGee Corporation. Frank and<br />

L. E. Phillips formed Phillips Petroleum Company. Devon Energy, Chesapeake<br />

Energy, SandRidge Energy, and the Williams Companies, some of <strong>Oklahoma</strong>’s<br />

most powerful companies, are among the elite of America’s petroleum giants.<br />
