Hammer Construction was originally
founded by Jack Hammer in the 1950s,
providing roustabout labor to companies in
south central Oklahoma. Considering Jack
Hammer’s fragile health in the late 1980s and
the daughter’s desire to preserve the thirty year
old family business, Shirley took on the small
enterprise at a time when oil and gas service
opportunity was minimal, at best. Facing the
overwhelming challenges created for the
industry by the fatal fall of Penn Square Bank,
Hammer searched for an ‘earth moving’
opportunity. Opportunity was revealed when
Hammer built Chesapeake Energy’s very first
drilling pad site in Garvin County, Oklahoma.
In spite of an ever changing market, Hammer
has enjoyed twenty-five continuous years of
service to Chesapeake. Targeting the active
Barnett Shale play in 2001, Hammer entered
north central Texas as a woman-owned newcomer.
The company has forged lasting
relationships with independents and major
energy entities by providing timely and quality
services. Remaining true to its roots, Hammer
continues to provide heavy equipment and
personnel to build pad sites, pits, roads, and
skilled labor crews for production equipment
installation and maintenance. The portfolio
has evolved to include compressor and facility
work, midstream services, a commercial site
prep department, and several niche services,
such as rock crushing, hydro-excavation, and
wood debris disposal that support the special
needs of Hammer’s clients.
Hammer Construction, Inc., and its leadership
have been awarded special recognition as
a top quality, competitive provider of services
in every market it serves. The CEO often
jests to her team “to keep air in the tires” to
facilitate the ever emerging energy hot spots.
That statement has led Hammer to work
in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Louisiana,
Kansas, Texas, and of course, the home base of
Oklahoma. With a corporate office in Norman,
Oklahoma and field locations in Weatherford,
Lindsay, Elk City and Kingfisher, Oklahoma;
Bridgeport, Texas; and Hugoton, Kansas,
Hammer’s 250 employees accept projects
ranging from day work to $3 million projects.
Hammer Construction is a second generation,
woman-owned, private entity led by Shirley
Hammer and her family, Taylor Jennings and
Robby Moore. Equipped with legacy leadership
and a dedicated team, Hammer crews proudly
join thousands of oil fields hands making
energy history again and again.
