Right: With over two decades of experience
in viewing life through the lens of a camera,
Photographer James M. Larrick captures a
modern view of this emerging state and
its people.
OPPOSITE: PHOTO COURTESY OF JAMES M. LARRICK.
James Larrick has been a photographer/
videographer for twenty-five years with a
number of years spent in Mississippi, where
he worked for several local television stations
as well as independently. After the advent of
Hurricane Katrina, he returned to his home
state where he continues to work in his
chosen field.
James says of Oklahoma, “I was born in
Norman in the mid-sixties and have the
privilege of watching this state transform
itself into the prosperous, beautiful place
that it is becoming.
“As I drive to every region and capture
these images I am astounded by the amount
of energy that is being produced in the entire
state. When you look closely at our landscape
you see the huge impact that energy has on
Oklahoma. Wind power, natural gas wells,
oil wells, and large high voltage power lines
that bind us all together and will carry
Oklahoma into the future.
“Our colleges and universities are numerous
and all are outstanding. Education options
are unlimited. The agriculture department
at Oklahoma State is world class. Oklahoma
University continues to define itself as a
leader in the number of academic scholars
it enrolls every year. The smaller schools are
just as attractive as options and I am
impressed by the beautiful campuses.
“The past few years have brought
Oklahoma its first NBA franchise. Bricktown
has blossomed into a rewarding destination.
I have witnessed the entire downtown area of
Oklahoma City transform into a place of great
promise and excitement.
“Tulsa remains the center for key oil industry
that has supported this state for years.
“With our low cost of living, an outstanding
healthcare industry, strong education and a
booming energy, Oklahoma is and will
remain for many decades to come—a great
place to live.”
