Habitat for Humanity homes.
employees went to Uganda to help drill the
last water well a village needed to provide
sufficient water for inhabitants. These bankers
say the experience changed their lives forever.
Other Bank2 projects have included working
with the OKC Refuge to re-take one core
neighborhood from drug lords and prostitution.
The bank has provided loans for young
couples to buy homes and move into the area,
and has worked closely with the Refuge to
help provide financial expertise. The bank’s
other community and charitable activities
include Habitat for Humanity, Oklahoma
Blood Bank, Oklahoma Ethics, and
the Oklahoma Native American
Chamber of Commerce as well as a
score of others.
Bank2, being true to its roots,
makes more home loans to Native
Americans than any other financial
institution in Oklahoma. Additionally,
Bank2 has made 4,000 home loans
totaling $700 million to members of
approximately 250 federally recognized
Native American tribes in thirtyseven
states. These have included a
home loan for an Alaskan native to
buy a home above the Arctic Circle.
The bank, which is located at 909
South Meridian in Oklahoma City,
has approximately $110 million in
total assets, having grown from original assets
of just over $5 million to become one of
Oklahoma’s 100 banks by size. It continues
to focus on making home ownership a reality
for Native Americans. With a prominent
Internet presence, Bank2 has customers
across the country who can conduct virtually
all of their business on line. This results in
lower overhead and much greater geographic
diversity, offsetting the weak economy and
turbulence in the financial industry.
