The history of Stroud does read like a fairy
tale—yet the story is far from over. Ever since
the town was moved to its new location in
1898, Stroud has been known as a place of new
beginnings, opportunity, and development.
Indeed that positive attitude has been the
launching point of the current growth and
development. New infrastructure—both above
and below the ground is being installed
including new roadways, smart meters for water
and electric, new water lines, underground
electric lines and improved wireless service.
Following the concept of “begin with what
you have,” city leaders have focused on the historic
economic drivers of Stroud—Agriculture,
Oil, Railroad and Education. These keystones are
still relevant to Stroud’s economy but they have
adapted to the needs of the twenty-first century.
Agriculture is seen in the wineries and vineyards
giving Stroud the honor and distinction of being
“Oklahoma’s Winery and Grape Capitol,” and
the Farmers Market. Oil is represented by locally
manufactured mobile drilling rigs and the oil
storage tank farm in the Industrial Park. The rail
line between OKC and Tulsa will include passenger
service as well as freight. The 900 students in
Stroud Schools take core classes, enrichment
programs and extra curricular activities while
preparing for careers in college or the workforce.
Work ready skills training is provided at Central
Technology Center in nearby Drumright.
Even visitors have noticed the expansion at
the Stroud Airport, city parks, and Stroud Lake.
The airport now hosts fuel pumps with private
hangars coming soon. Stroud parks have seen
improvements in their baseball/softball fields,
public swimming pool, playgrounds, and the
installation of the Stroud Skate Park. Stroud
Lake is being groomed to become Oklahoma’s
premier lakeside resort and a major component
of the local economy.
The Stroud Chamber of Commerce strives to
improve our quality of life with seasonal festivals
including the Wine Festival, City Wide Garage
Sale, Trick or Treat on Main Street and the
Christmas Parade. The newest chamber sponsored
project is Stroud Arts, which will establish
an arts district, training in various arts media,
sponsor displays and performances.
Our development includes regional partnerships
as Stroud has become a “Certified Healthy
Oklahoma Community” through the Department
of Health, continues its clean-up program
with “Keep Oklahoma Beautiful,” and participates
in the OSU and USDA sponsored
“Stronger Economies Together” program for
regional growth.
Currently, there are 2.3 million people living
within sixty miles of Stroud. We hope that many
of them will see our vision for the future and
become a part of Stroud’s culture of pride and
partnership. Stroud—come grow with us.
