Oklahoma: A Story Through Her People

for children and families including
Oklahoma City Educare, Smart Start Central
Oklahoma, Homeless Alliance, Teach for
America, John W. Rex Elementary School,
ReMerge, and Oklahoma City National
Memorial, to name a few.
Beyond her philanthropic endeavors, Edith
was a pioneer journalist with a life-long
passion for news. She established the Ethics
and Excellence in Journalism Foundation
(EEJF) in 1982 to support organizations
dedicated to advancing the quality and ethical
standards of journalism.
Today, the Ethics and Excellence in
Journalism Foundation makes grants to
journalism schools and other nonprofit
journalism organizations primarily in
the areas of investigative reporting, youth
education, and professional development.
Through these grants, EEJF invests in the
future of journalism by building the
ethics, skills and opportunities needed to
advance principled, probing news and
information. Gaylord College of Journalism
and Mass Communications, Oklahoma
Watch, Investigative News Network, Fund
for Investigative Journalism, and Friends of
the Oklahoma History Center are some of
the main grantees of the foundation. In all,
EEJF has given over 490 organizations
across the United States have received grants
totaling more than $37 million.
Inasmuch Foundation and the Ethics and
Excellence in Journalism Foundation have a
staff of twelve dedicated employees. They are
