1. Concept
I-spani – My future Career! – a reality series where we have a studio/classroom setup
with a teacher and students – a series that equips the 14-24 year old viewer in the LSM
The teacher introduces to the group of students a special guest which will join them to
discuss the many career options available to them.
Career councillor (actor) interacts with students in an informal fun way, showing them
visuals of the wide array of possible careers. Opening discussion will be an introduction
on all aspects related to choosing a career path.
I-spani – My future Career! Will aim to educate our youth about the choices they have
regarding career options, to select school subjects that are in line with their future
plans and to inform them about higher education institutions or a certificate/diploma
through a Further Education and Training College or a SETA.
Case Studies
Conceptualise career development is a lifelong process that unfolds and changes
across a lifetime. We can use case studies to demonstrate different career paths that
diverse individuals with very different contexts, socio-economic backgrounds and life
experiences can follow to achieve their career goals.
Identify individuals falling along different career milestones in terms of:
Age: 18-25 years
Career goals:
Those wanting to study further with or without the relevant prerequisite foundational
skills and training
Those wanting to pursue entrepreneurial endeavours such as starting a business,
becoming self-employed
Those undergoing a career transition such as
Those that were previously engaged in jobs that were not in line with their interests
and personality and now want to pursue a career
Those that were informally trained and acquired a skill and now want to have their
skills formally recognised through recognition and accreditation of prior learning
Graduates from high school, technical colleges, universities and Seta accredited learner
ships who now seek employment
Unemployed individuals wishing to enter the job market for the first time
Priority career fields in terms of those careers which experience a skills shortage in
South Africa that is in line with the National Development Plan; as well as unconventional
careers that most young people never consider as options
Intervention strategy
Compile a career development profile of each of the 3 identified candidates that we
will profile
Psychometric assessment by an educational psychologist to develop personality profile,
