I N T R O D U C T I O N<br />

Jalan Hang Jebat, also called as Jonker Street is the centre street of historical<br />

Chinatown in Melaka. It was once renowned for its antique shops. Many old<br />

traditional looking shop houses can be found in Jonker Street. The area is<br />

really interesting to explore. Many old temples and mosque are nearby and<br />

there are so many fascinating things to see. The heritage houses dating back<br />

up to the 17 th century. At that time, rich Baba Nnonya which also known as<br />

Peranakan, descendent of 15 th – 16 th century Chinese immigrants marrying<br />

local Malay women, lived and did their business here.<br />

Due to more incoming of the tourists and development of the city, Jonker<br />

Street has slowly change its role from residential to serve as commercial<br />

purposes. Café is one of the most common and popularity that can be found<br />

in along the street. So, check out this list of cafes that’ll inject an old school<br />

feel in the straits but with modern food and drinks.<br />
