Auditors use many types of tools to plan and perform an audit, as well as to analyze and report audit results. An
understanding of these tools and their application is essential for the performance of an effective audit since
both auditors and auditees use various tools and techniques to define processes, identify and characterize
problems, and report results. An auditor must have sufficient knowledge of these tools in order to determine
whether the auditee is using them correctly and effectively. This section provides basic information on some of
