Business Expo Is A Winner by: Holly Staples The Chamber’s 27th Annual Business Expo was a winner with exhibitors and attendees! Our football themed event featured aspects of Physical Fitness, Team Building, Competition, and Victory. During the Community Day portion, attendees took advantage of free health screenings from Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in order to stay in tip top shape. Eager participants engaged in the I in Team teambuilding workshop offered free of charge by Eastern Women’s Entrepreneurship Center. We then took a “time out” for a Cookie Decorating Demonstration by the The Flour Girls, where participants learned how to professionally decorate football and stadium shaped cookies. The results were delicious! Many exhibitors got into the spirit of the theme, but the most outstanding were: Best Overall – Ambrose Furniture Best Use of Theme – Doug Williams/Rick Gilbert Refrigeration, Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. Best New Exhibitor – Builders Discount Center The Tailgate Party event featured stiff competition for the Chef and Sweets Challenges. Although each contender was strong, Montero’s was victorious as the Chef Challenge Winner, and The Flour Girls claimed the Sweets Challenge prize. The Spectrum Reach Football Toss Challenge garnered a lot of attention as contestants vied for the grand prize of a pair of club level Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins tickets. The lead went back and forth all night, but in the end, Matt Scribner was the winner. Second place went to Tommy Wooten, who won a 4 pack of tickets to UCF vs ECU. Heather Sawyer won third place and a 4 pack of tickets to a Northeastern High School game and assorted tailgate items. Thank you to the Business Expo Committee members who worked so hard to create a great event, and to our event volunteers for graciously giving their time. For the past few years I’ve been tweaking my diet to determine the best food choices (battling detectable cancer is a constant dietary balancing act). I define my diet as a Mediterranean. I’ve eliminated dairy products (with the exception of high probiotic yogurt), and refined carbohydrates. The Mediterranean diet is heavy on olive oil, unrefined grains, heavy fruits and vegetables, high consumption of fish, moderate consumption of red wine. I drink a lot of green tea in lieu of water, pomegranate juice, and of course, red wine. Ninety percent of my fluid intake contain anti-oxidants.
