Medway Library Book Sale
October 13th
This past summer, the Friends
of the Medway Public Library
were able to support the Medway
Public Library with $19,000
in donations, thanks to its local
book sales. October 12th, 13th,
and 20th, you can help make a
difference, too, and find a great
bargain.
If you are looking for a great
deal on books, CDs and DVDs,
puzzles and toys, head to the
Friends of the Medway Library
Book Sale. This highly anticipated
Mega Fall Sale has always
been a popular event. There are
thousands of newly donated,
gently used books and media
representing a wide variety of
interests, for adults and children.
The event begins with the
“Friends-Only Sale” on Friday
evening, October 12, from 6 to

of the Town’s history through the
past. This program will display
some of the local influences that
helped form Millis that are buried
here in this cemetery. Registration
is required. Please park
at Richardson’s Pond on Curve
Street, and we will walk over to
cemetery.

8 p.m. Members get first chance
to preview and buy books. Memberships
may be bought at the
door or renewed at the door. A
year’s individual membership is
only $10 for individuals and $15
for families.
The Public Sale is Saturday,
October 13 from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. All books and media will be
available at bargain prices, between
25 cents and 2 dollars.
The following Saturday, October
20 is the Bag Sale in which
buyers may fill up a brown paper
grocery bag for only $5. However,
this year, so everyone has an
opportunity to get media at the
Bag Sale, buyers will be limited
to 10 DVD’s.
Books are carefully sorted on
shelves and on tables in the Cole
Room, in over 50 categories. The

for children’s and young adult’s
books. Co-president of Friends,
Meg Hamilton, recalls, “I always
bought my children’s books at
the library sales. For the price of
one book at a retail store, I could
get 20 almost-new ones. Also,
it’s a terrific way to support the
library.”
All proceeds from the sale are
used by the library for new materials,
museum passes, and programs.
The Friends accepts book
donations year-round; a collection
box is located at the bottom
entrance of the library. For more

Medway Cultural
Council Accepting
Grant Applications
The Medway Cultural
Council is now accepting grant
application to fund cultural opportunities
for Medway residents.
All Medway artists are
encouraged to apply. Last year,
the local Council awarded 11
grants ranging from $50 to
$800 for programs that served
every age group. Last year, we
awarded grants to programs such
as “Monet’s Pastel Painting,” the
“Free Movie and Popcorn” at
the Library, a presentation about
attracting birds and butterflies
to gardens, and a concert by
the Southeastern Massachusetts
Community Concert Band at the
Council on Aging, among others.
Artists and cultural organizations
that offer visual, performing
arts and humanities programs
are eligible to apply. “We invite
applications for programs that
promote access, education, diversity
and excellence not only in

the arts, but also in the humanities,
and interpretive sciences.
All grant requests should serve
Medway residents.” stated Carla
C. Cataldo, Chairwoman of the
Medway Cultural Council.
Application forms are available

Please read the guidelines and
priorities as they contain important
information. Priority will be
given to applicants that have secured
a local venue and/or partner,
projects that serve youth,
the elderly or other underserved
group, and projects that focus on
local history. Medway artists who
want to share their talent are encouraged
to apply.
The deadline for submitting
applications online is 11:59 p.m.
