Letterbox YOUR NEWS TO THE EDITOR - LETTERBOX@DEVONSHIREMAGAZINE.CO.UK New Lobster Pod Bistro at Hope Cove This August, the Cottage Hotel opened a new restaurant, Lobster Pod Bistro. Situated overlooking the harbour and beach, the restaurant has spectacular views across Bigbury Bay and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The latter include unique enclosed pods with comfortable seating and tables. Proprietor Sarah Ireland says: “The pods seat 6-10 guests. Sharing pods is encouraged as itʼs a great way to meet new friends, ideal for walkers, and holiday makers, who often enjoy talking to locals and fellow holiday makers, but socialising is not compulsory!” “The menu will be ʻevolvingʼ, for the darker cooler evening ahead, there are heaters in two of the pods, and the paths leading to the pods have been lit with down lighters. Itʼs a great position for ʻstorm watchingʼ and star gazing, (with little light pollution). There are also future plans for crab pot weaving demonstrations and workshops with local fishermen”. “As well as food and drink, the aim is to educate the diners, with the variety of fish available, with our own created ʻfish guideʼ and local history of fishing in Hope Cove over the years.” www.lobster-pod.co.uk 5 years in business This year, Devon Leather Care are celebrating 5 years in business. Having an association with the National Trust, Daniel has worked in many of the properties in the English Riviera and has a fascination for restoration projects. Daniel says: “I have recently cured mould invasion on a pair of heirloom Lederhosen, remade a seat on a cherished shooting stick, adjusted the fittings on an American holster cartridge belt, and completely overhauled the straps on a WW2 haversack. Leatherworks is so varied and interesting to see what will turn up next!” www.devonleathercare.co.uk opportunity in the London market. “We are delighted to have representation in the West End,” says partner Chris Davey, of Luscombe Maye. “We see this as a positive move in developing even stronger links within the national and international property market.” Opening the Door to the London Market South Hams estate agents Luscombe Maye are demonstrating just how seriously they take the responsibility of marketing properties in their area by establishing an office connection East Devon based fashion boutique Angie’s of Budleigh will be showcasing their autumn and winter range at their annual fashion show which will be held on Tuesday 16th October at East Devon Golf Club. Yet that is exactly what the late marine artist Anthony Amos did in his stunning paintings, which can be seen in the latest exhibition of his work “Unseen and Unsung” at The Brownston Gallery in Modbury. Drawing on his experience of life at sea, working on every kind of boat including fishing trawlers, tankers, tugs and cargo ships. Tony created beautiful paintings that bring to life scenes from a bygone era. Tony’s work has a unique, raw quality that is rarely seen. Perhaps it is because he preferred to paint with his fingers, a bit of rag and the wrong end of a brush or perhaps it is because he had a natural gift, an insight to a particular way of life, which taps into the nostalgia that lies within us all. Whatever the answer, this is a wonderful exhibition with many of the artist’s best works, hitherto unseen. Go along and see what you think. www.thebrownstongallery.co.uk hubcast .co.u k What’s on in Devon 9
