See the world from a new perspective with our
semester-long study abroad program in International
Development and Social Justice. Travel from
Jerusalem to the foothills of the Himalayas, where
you’ll examine social and environmental issues through
an interfaith lens. You’ll gain real-life experience with
field work, study tours, and service learning.
• Immerse yourself in the culture of Nepal’s cities
and villages.
• Understand how religious and philosophical
traditions inform policy.
• Bring theory to life with an internship in a
marginalized community.
Academic
Excellence
From sociology and the humanities to religious
studies and political sciences, this interdisciplinary
program is relevant to many fields. Expert instruction
in a one-of-a-kind environment allows you to
connect your hands-on experiences to a deep
theoretical foundation. Supported by HebrewU’s
Glocal International Development program, you’ll
explore issues such as globalization, poverty, social
justice, and climate change – all through the eyes of
those most affected.

Global
Experience
1. Jerusalem
Your program begins in beautiful Israel,
where you’ll lay the groundwork for a
thought-provoking semester abroad
with an orientation and two introductory
courses. Jerusalem is central to various
religious traditions and offers a rich culture.
2. Katmandu
Next, you’ll travel to Nepal, starting with two
weeks in the capital city (pop. 2,000,000).
Here, you’ll continue your studies and get
an introduction to the region – as well as a
crash course in the Nepalese language.
With 3 weeks in Israel and 10 in Nepal, you’ll add
new layers to your global view of development
and social justice with every stop on your journey.
HebrewU’s partner, Tevel b’Tzedek, will coordinate
your field experience in Nepalese villages and oversee
the logistics of your trip. Tevel has been operating
community-based sustainable development projects in
rural Nepal for over a decade. They have honed a unique
model focused on cultivating community and integrating
volunteers into a rich intercultural environment.
4. Dunche
A week-long trip to this
mountain town (pop. 2,500)
gives you time for a middle
seminar and study tour of
Nepal’s Central Development
Region, where you can
see the real effects of
climate change.
6. Pokhara
The semester
concludes with a
week in this beautiful
metropolis (pop.
400,000) – known
as the tourism capital
of Nepal – for a
final seminar and
research project.
3. Dunkharka
Your journey continues with three weeks
in this Nepalese village (pop. 4,400) –
including an orientation to field work and
the first half of your internship.
5. Dunkharka
You’ll return to Dunkharka to
complete your internship with three
additional weeks of field work.

Meet the people of Nepal and gain new insight into global issues with onthe-ground
experience.
ELIGIBILITY
The program is open to undergraduate and
graduate students. To qualify, you must:
• Complete a full year of college-level studies
with a minimum 3.0 GPA
COSTS & SCHOLARSHIPS
The US$ 16,500 cost of the program covers tuition,
housing, travel (including local transport and roundtrip
airfare from Israel to Nepal), global health
insurance, and a full meal plan in Nepalese villages.
