Brakes
on bid
to move
kart club
• By Anan Zaki
MIKE MORA has been
temporarily yellow-carded in
his bid to have the kart club in
Halswell moved to McLeans
Island.
The Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton
Community Board chairman
wanted to make a deputation to
the city council over the longrunning
issue.
But fellow board members have
stopped him in his tracks until
more discussion is held as to who
will do the bidding to the city
council.
At last week’s community board
meeting Mr Mora said he would
make a deputation to the city
council asking for $70,000 to be
granted to KartSport Canterbury.
The money will be used to help
with the kart club’s $3.5 million
relocation process from Halswell
to McLeans Island.
Initially, board members agreed,
but when former mayor Vicki
Buck returned to the meeting from
phone calls, the dynamic changed.
The kart club grant was meant
to be discussed at a full council
meeting last Thursday but was
postponed to September 27 due to
the agenda being too long.
HAT’S OFF to Keri and Dave Glassenbury
for their great initiative in Halswell (see
page 8).
They have set up the Sharing Shack and
as the name says it’s all about sharing.
The shack is a food shelf, where people
can donate food and for those who need it, they can take it.
“The whole idea is, if there is anybody out there struggling
in any way, you don’t have to put a thing in there, just take the
food,” Keri told reporter Anan Zaki.
Keri has been a community helper in Halswell for a couple of
years and the latest project looks like a winner.
The shack is outside the community hub. So if you have food
to donate to others in need that’s the place to go.
And if you’re struggling to feed the kids, drop by. Just leave
some for others in the same boat.
Road safety plan approved
• By Ashleigh Monk
PARKING CHANGES around
Christchurch Boys’ High School
will make it easier for motorists
and cyclists to share the road
safely.
A proposal has been approved
to implement a three-minute
restricted drop-off and pick-up
zone along the north side of
Kahu Rd.
It will operate
from 8.30am
to 9.30am and
from 2pm to
4pm every
school day, but
outside these
Sam
MacDonald
times parking
will be unrestricted.
The moving of
two bus stops and an extension of
the no-stopping lines on Girvan
Rd will also be implemented.
The decision was approved in a
combined meeting between the
Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood
and the Halswell-Hornby-
Riccarton Community Boards.
Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood
Community Board chairman Sam
MacDonald said it was a good
“middle ground” for both the
school and residents in the area.
“We ultimately moved with
option two, which was to keep
the parking because there was
enough room on the road to
have the existing cycleways and
not limit the parking,” he said.
“It was a sort of happy medium
between what the school
staff wanted and what the residents
wanted.”
Following the Christchurch
earthquakes, CBHS had undergone
significant redevelopment
which was estimated to continue
for the next three to five years.
The redevelopment caused
cycle parking facilities to be
relocated, which resulted in significantly
greater cycle activity
on the Kahu Rd frontage.
The approved changes, costing
$2000 to implement, would
make it safer for students to
cycle around the school.
“With the developments at the
school, where the bike sheds are
now might not be the permanent
place going forward,” he said.
“This change helps deal with
those safety issues now, while
at the same protecting the
residents’ amenities as well . . .
the way we’ve set it up, people
HAPPY
MEDIUM: The
approved
road
upgrades will
make it safer
for students
cycling to
and from
Christchurch
Boys’ High
School.
will still be able to cycle and get
to and from, we’ve just balanced
that with the need to maintain
car parks.”
Mr MacDonald also said the
board went with option two
so as not to take parking opportunities
away from weekend
market-goers.
“We had to think about the
Riccarton Bush, in terms of the
market on Saturday. We just
can’t afford to keep taking car
parks out of residential areas.”
Christchurch Boys’ High
School declined to comment.
Hamish Middleton – It’s
disappearing because the
Christchurch City Council never
give anything to the community.
Took the pool, took the service
remained a recreational hub for
Fire rages, homes at risk
Council moves to ease aquifer fears
• By Anan Zaki
THE CITY council has moved
to ease fears that a groundwater
aquifer has been damaged in
Avonhead.
The aquifer is about 9.4 to 9.6m
below ground, according to Environment
Canterbury. It is within
the Christchurch Groundwater
Protection Zone and used for the
city’s drinking water supply.
People living and working on
Hawthornden Rd near the construction
site say they have seen
large puddles of water for the past
month, even during dry weather.
They asked Waimairi Ward
city councillor Raf Manji to look
into the matter. He passed it onto
compliance workers at the city
council.
Last week, city council head
of regulatory compliance Tracey
Weston said there were no issues.
“Compliance officers have confirmed
that the earthworks that
have been carried out on the site
are compliant.
“[Officers] have included the
provision of an erosion and
sediment control plan to council
prior to works commencing,” she
said.
Mechanic Jonathan Wilson
worked at the construction site
on August 23 and saw it covered
in water. “I went in there to do a
job [to repair a dump truck] for
one of the contractors doing the
earthworks.
“The reason they had broken
their dump truck was [because]
it came down to the fact that
the ground was so wet and they
were having traction issues,” Mr
Wilson said.
When he saw the water, he
did not think much of it until he
spoke to his mother Rae Wilson,
who lives on Hawthornden Rd.
Mrs Wilson, said her immediate
thoughts went to the aquifers
at the site. “I said [to my son]
it’s always been wet there. But
you could see the water in dry
weather, it was sitting in pools.
“I’d say the aquifer would have
been damaged considerably with
the vibrations from the construction,”
Mrs Wilson said.
Resident Clive Paris believed
that the timing of the ponding
with the earthworks was no
coincidence.
“We believe that there is a
direct correlation between where
PIPING: Wastewater
pipes are being
installed at the
retirement village
construction site,
which residents
say is causing large
puddles of water to
form.
the works is taking place
and where the aquifer is.”
ECan also plan to visit the
site this week as part of their
“regular” compliance checks.
“We believe there is a relatively
low risk at this site as there is no
need for works to go near the
aquifer,” ECan zone manager
Steve Firth said.
Boy racers target Fendalton Rd
• By Ashleigh Monk
FENDALTON HAS been
targeted by late-night boy
racers.
Police believe an incident on
Fendalton Rd on September 8
was a one-off, but will closely
monitor the area.
Canterbury
road
policing
manager Inspector
Ash
Tabb said
that while
Fendalton
Jamie Gough
Rd was not
usually a hotspot
for boy
racers, it was a closely-watched
issue in the city.
“Canterbury police have a
dedicated team which liaises
with the car enthusiasts group,
and uses education and
enforcement intervention to
change behaviour,” he said.
“Where there are breaches
of the law – such as illegally
noisy vehicles, excessive speed,
and other types of dangerous
behaviour – all police officers
will take action against offenders.”
Cheryl and Tony, who didn’t
want their last name published,
live on Fendalton Rd
and were regularly kept awake
on weekend nights due to
the noise of boy racers on the
nearby central city avenues,
including Harper Ave.
But Cheryl said a group was
racing up and down Fendalton
Rd on the Saturday night until
about 4am.
“They were using Fendalton
Rd as a racetrack . . . the noise
was deafening,” she said.
“Saturday night, I was just
about to go out and . . . I don’t
know what I’d do. Lucky I
didn’t have a gun.”
“We don’t have children, but
the people next door have got
a baby, and on the other side
they have little toddlers. When
my grandchildren come and
stay the night, it’s really hard
to get them to sleep,” she said.
Cheryl said the couple felt
they had no rights, in spite
of paying an “exorbitant”
amount in rates.
“It’s just a hideous amount
in rates, and there’s a whole
lot of restrictions around here
. . . but then you don’t have
any rights when it comes to
crazy people on Fendalton
Rd.”
Cheryl wrote a letter to city
councillor Jamie Gough in a
bid to find a solution to the
issue.
She said she understood
LOUD: Police
say they will
take action
against boy
racers if they
are caught
breaking the
law.
there were no bylaws in place
to prevent boy racer activities,
but something needed to be
done.
Cr Gough said boy racing
hadn’t been as “prevalent” in
Fendalton as other areas of the
city, but it could become an
issue if it wasn’t monitored.
“The nature of this though
is that it is literally a mobile
problem and the hot-spots
change, so we’ll need to watch
it closely to determine the best
course of action,” he said.
“I think we all hope that this
is just a one-off, but we still
shouldn’t assume anything or
be complacent about it.”
Halswell food stall for those in need
Fire rages, homes at risk
• By Anan Zaki
A COUPLE’S goal to provide
food for those in need has taken
off.
Avonhead couple Keri and
Dave Glassenbury have set up the
Sharing Shack, in Halswell.
The shack is a food shelf, where
people can donate and take food.
It was built by computer programmer
Mr Glassenbury, and is
outside the Halswell Community
Hub, at the former Halswell Library
on Halswell Rd.
They set up the shack in
Halswell because Mrs Glassenbury
is a manager at the Halswell
Community Project, which
works to connect and support
people in the suburb.
In its first week of operation,
the Sharing Shack has been
frequently used and is regularly
filled up and then emptied.
“People are more often donating
more than they take away,”
Mrs Glassenbury said.
“The whole idea is, if there is
anybody out there struggling in
any way, you don’t have to put a
thing in there, just take the food,”
she said.
Mrs Glassenbury’s two-and-ahalf
years of helping the Halswell
community have made her passionate
about the area.
“It’s a great area and a number
of times we have talked about
moving to Halswell . . . I just see
FRESH FOOD: Halswell Community Project co-ordinator Kate
Cleverly (left), and Halswell Community Project manager
Keri Glassenbury stock up the Sharing Shack at Halswell
Community Hub.
the whole city as one community
as well,” she said.
The shack is mainly intended
for fruit and vegetables but
canned and instant meals have
also been common.
“If people want to, they can donate
other food, and that’s great.
There is always something that
somebody needs,” she said.
Many in the community
will want to help, Mrs
D.I.Y: Dave Glassenbury
building the Sharing Shack.
Glassenbury believed.
“We dropped it off at 3pm
on Sunday [September 9] , and
posted on Facebook. Straight
away people were like: ‘Oh where
is it, I want to drop things off’,”
she said.
Giving back to the community
is something Mrs Glassenbury
has always wanted to do and is
now encouraging her husband to
join in more.
“I’ve always enjoyed working
with people, I’m a people person.
Working in the community hub
. . . it’s an awesome way to meet
people from all walks of life.”
For Mr Glassenbury, volunteering
in the community is a new
experience.
“It was Keri’s idea and they [the
community project] wanted it
done, and I quite like that sort of
thing [building work],” he said.
His first experience was a rewarding
one. “I thought it would
be slow to take off but people
were very quick to get into it,” Mr
Glassenbury said.
Now that he has had his first
taste of working for the community,
another project is around
the corner.
“I am also building a library
shelf where people can share
books,” Mr Glassenbury said.
He didn’t think there would be
demand for food sharing.
“It appears there is . . . what
I also noticed is the amount of
people that want to give stuff.
That really surprised me,” he said.
He considers himself to be a
handyman around the house,
although the project is very different
from his job as a computer
programmer.
“I’ve often do jobs around the
house or building things for the
kids,” he said.
The couple hoped their goodwill
won’t be spoiled by people
trying to take advantage of the
situation.
“If it it does [get stolen], we’ll
just build another one,” Mrs
Glassenbury said.
But it was unlikely to be stolen
Mr Glassenbury believed.
“People can surprise you
sometimes, I think it’ll be fine.”
Tennis star pens award-winning poem
•From page 1
Abby’s award-winning
poem, titled Newton’s Third
Law, was picked for first place
by the WORD competition’s
judge, poet and author Helen
Heath.
“I’m part of this school for
young writers thing, which I
go to on Saturday mornings,
and they mentioned the
competition, so I decided to
write something,” she said.
“I love writing, you can just do
so much with it, you can write
whatever you want.”
Abby said she was the first in
her family to dabble in creative
writing, which she became
interested in after joining a
writing group as a pupil at
Selwyn House School.
“I had this one teacher who
was amazing, she taught me so
much. It was the highlight of
my week going to those creative
writing sessions.”
Her father Rhett Mason was a
former junior Davis Cup player
and the pair played mixed
doubles competitions alongside
each other.
Abby said she had to juggle
her passions for writing and
tennis with her schoolwork and
social life.
“I started playing tennis when
I was about seven, but my dad
is a really good tennis player so
he started throwing tennis balls
at me when I was three or four,”
she said.
“Sometimes it’s a bit of a
struggle to balance everything, I
don’t know how I manage to fit
it all in, but I do.”
And when asked which of
her passions she might pursue
as a career, she couldn’t
decide.
“I’d really like to continue
doing both for as long as I can.
I might change how I think in a
few years, but for now I want to
do both.”
Newton’s Third Law
When I drove to your house
you said
take me somewhere
you didn’t want to talk about
your dad
he wasn’t worth talking about
everything you did, set him off.
There was silence, apart from
the grounding of tyres
against the dusty road.
It was hard to see straight,
in the dark, on the coast,
with the moon
distancing itself,
making the waves drowsy.
The only light was tiny balls of
gas in the sky
and because I took my hand
off the wheel to hold yours
I didn’t see the truck
or the ditch
or the stars,
as we flipped.
Brakes on bid to move kart club
•From page 1
The board members were
made aware of the agenda
change prior to their discussion
at last Tuesday’s meeting.
At the beginning of the discussion,
while councillor Vicki Buck
was outside, board member Debbie
Mora supported Mr Mora,
highlighting his familiarity
with the Kart Club’s relocation
process.
Riccarton
Ward board
member Helen
Broughton
disagreed at
first.
“We can’t
give you a
Mike Mora
mandate to
speak on behalf
of the board until we’ve had a
workshop,” Ms Broughton said.
But board members Ms
Broughton, councillor Anne
Galloway and Ms Mora, came
to an agreement that after the
workshop, the board can vote to
withdraw Mr Mora as their representative
for the deputation.
But the workshop had to be
held before the city council
meeting on September 27.
Mr Mora agreed with the
members.
Before the agreement was
confirmed, Cr Buck rejoined the
meeting.
She apologised for stepping outside
and missing the discussion.
To which Mr Mora replied:
“Well we’re in a meeting.”
Cr Buck asked to be brought
up to speed on the discussion.
WORK AT the Burnside pump
station will start this week to
convert the below ground well
head to an above ground well
head.
A contractor will be on-site to
carry out set-up work, including
fencing, signage and sediment
erosion control.
The well head conversion will
take about 55 days and aims to
ensure the continued supply of
secure drinking water.
SPEED BUMP: Members of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton
Community Board will wait to vote on chairman Mike Mora
making a deputation on behalf of the board.
After it was explained to her,
she said Mr Mora should not be
chosen to deputise on behalf of
the board prior to a workshop.
“We have no idea when the
workshop is or whether any of us
can get there,” Cr Buck said.
Mr Mora called for a vote
on the matter and asked for all
those in favour to say aye.
Before anyone could answer,
Ms Broughton interrupted and
changed her mind.
“Hang on. I think Vicki is
right here, it’s better to have a
workshop,” she said.
She then told Mr Mora to
“leave it.”
“I was only trying to help,” Mr
Mora responded.
The board then chose to wait
for the workshop before deciding
if Mr Mora will make a deputation
on behalf of the members.
When Western News asked Mr
Mora if the direction of the meeting
changed after Cr Buck’s return
to the meeting, he responded
by saying: “You’re observations
are pretty on the mark.”
Work starts on Burnside pump station
Following completion,
there will be no need to temporarily
chlorinate the water
at this site when all wells are in
use.
The Burnside pump station
supplies water to about a fifth
of the homes in Christchurch’s
north-west zone. It pumps out
about 1.8 million cubic metres
of water annually.
The completion of work on the
Burnside pump station would
Cr Buck said the disagreements
were not about Mr Mora,
but her wanting to follow a
proper process.
Cr Galloway believed board
members changed their views
after Cr Buck’s return because
of her previous experience as
mayor.
“Before I give him [Mr Mora]
the okay to represent me, I want
to be clear of the issues,” Cr Galloway
said.
Cr Galloway said she was “not
aware” of any divisions within
the board.
“In my experience of the
board, I’m very appreciative of
Vicki’s experience and understanding
of situations,” Cr Galloway
said.
Last year, Mr Mora and Ms
Broughton narrowly survived a
vote to topple them as chairman
and deputy chairwoman.
Of the nine members, Natalie
Bryden, Vicki Buck, Catherine
Chu and Anne Galloway voted
to remove Mr Mora and Ms
Broughton.
bring the north-west closer to
being chlorine-free.
Last week, work finished on
the new Gardiners pump station
in Harewood Park, replacing the
old Harewood pump station.
The city council also stopped
chlorinating the Thompsons
water pump station in late
August, bringing the total
number of pump stations across
the city not being chlorinated to
nine.
Young MP sought
The Ilam MP is on the hunt for
Mr Brownlee has taken a young
Youth Parliament is held in
“It’s an opportunity to impart
“For someone who is
that, it’s a great opportunity.”
He said he would look for a
candidate who was “active here in
“Someone who has got the ability
to articulate their thoughts,
someone who clearly thinks
POLITICS: Gerry Brownlee is
The selected youth MP will
participate in a programme
including attending a
Applicants are
“is democracy important?’
which can be sent
Applications close on the
Junior councillors clean up Westlake Park
• By Anan Zaki
BUDDING CITY councillors
have taken their first step into
public service.
Halswell’s junior council,
currently made up of four year
5 and year 6
pupils organised
a clean-up of
Westlake Park as
their first action.
They are the
city’s first junior
council, which
Anne
Galloway
started in June.
The pupils
are, Aidanfield
Christian
School’s Millie Young, 11 and
Nevaeh Williams, 11, and
Oaklands School’s Maddison
McKenzie, 9, and Thomas White,
10.
“We all think that us kids
should become involved [in
politics].
“Because we are the next
generation and we should
help out and prove that us
kids can make a difference in
Christchurch,” Millie said.
The Westlake Park clean-up
project was first because the
pupils wanted to focus on
rubbish-free zones.
“We also chose Westlake Park
because it’s in Aidanfield’s zone
and it’s also close to Oaklands
School,” Nevaeh said.
The junior council invited
neighbours, rest-home residents
and pupils from other schools in
Halswell for the clean-up.
The junior councillors plan to
put the rubbish to good use.
“We’re hoping to make a
SCHOOLS
sculpture out of the rubbish
so people can come by and
remember to not pollute the
environment,” Millie said.
The sculpture has not been
finalised yet but the students
INVOLVED: Aidanfield Christian School pupils Millie
Young (left) and Nevaeh Williams, both 11, and
Oaklands School pupils Thomas White, 10, and
Maddison McKenzie, 9, help clean up rubbish from
Westlake Park in Halswell.
hope to design a wave sculpture
for the park.
The four pupils said they hoped
to join the adult council when
they grow up.
Halswell Ward councillor
Anne Galloway, helped form the
junior council.
“The whole idea about the
junior council is for children to
involved in civics.
“Setting up a junior council is a
way for them to understand
the democratic processes, how
the system works,” Cr Galloway
said.
Invitations for the Halswell
junior council went out to
four local schools in the area,
Aidanfield Christian, Oaklands,
Halswell and Seven Oaks schools.
Cr Galloway hoped Halswell
and Seven Oaks schools pupils
join the council in this year.
With story book charm and grand street appeal this home was always
designed to impress and never more so than now, with modern homes
all beginning to look the same. The wide front portico with its black and
white chequered floor opens into an expansive entry area with polished
wood floors, white wood panelling and the stairway to the upstairs
rooms. Impeccably updated interiors are tasteful and elegant. The family
In the year 8 event, Halswell
School’s Ameya Raut finished
second.
Jedidiah’s speech was titled Is it
OK to be me anymore?
“I talked about discrimination
and judgement and how we
should not judge others by their
looks, beliefs and other things
like that,” the 11-year-old said.
She said people should not be
told who they are by others.
“They should just be allowed
to be themselves and I want to
tell people that they are free to be
themselves,” Jedidiah said.
Twelve-year-old Te Wharekauri’s
speech was on The importance
of speaking Te Reo.
“I talked about how all people
should be trying to save te reo
Maori now, rather than later
because I have lots of connections
with te reo Maori and I
have noticed that the numbers
of speakers are decreasing,” Te
Wharekauri said.
He said preserving the language
was important to him and
his whanau.
“I explained how people can
help save the language and why
people should work with others
to save the language.”
Ameya spoke on New Zealand
should be GST-free on fruit and
vegetables.
This year’s event saw 15 entrants
O’Neill back to inspire
• By Jacob Page
WIGRAM RHYTHMIC
gymnast Ashleigh O’Neill is back
competing to try and inspire the
juniors she coaches.
The Olympia Gymsports competitor
and coach will compete
at the national championships
in Tauranga from October 2 to
7 after four years away from the
competition floor.
The 21-year-old will compete
for Canterbury in the hoop, ball,
ribbon and club events and hopes
to medal in all three.
But she said her main goal was
to inspire her own athletes, all
aged between six and 16.
“I always enjoyed coaching
because I’ve been an athlete for
a long time but I wanted to show
my girls that I know what they’re
going through,” she said.
“I’ve been coaching during my
time away but being around it so
much made me miss it so I find
the motivation to balance both
training to compete and coaching.
“I train by myself in the morning
then do my work and coaching
in the afternoon and I try to
get to the gym five days a week
as well.
“It all works out about 80 percent
of the time,” she said.
O’Neill has represented New
Zealand multiple times in
the Pacific Rim Gymnastics
Championships, was the
national rope champion and was
PROSTATE CANCER
TALENT: Rhythmic gymnast Ashleigh O’Neill is back competing
in the sport she loves after four years away.
undefeated in the Australian
national championships.
She currently holds South
Island, Otago and North Shore
titles, which she won since returning
to competition in July.
O’Neill took up the sport when
she was seven-years-old and her
local swimming pool was being
renovated.
“We were at King’s Swim
School and they had renovations
being done so Mum enrolled me
at Olympia and I just took to it.”
O’Neill said she wanted to
encourage more gymnasts to
stay in the sport as coaches and
she hoped to set an example that
other young girls could follow
into the future.
quickly becoming a national
force in table tennis.
Their boys and girls teams
defended their respective New
in Hamilton last week.
The students also won a number
of age group titles in only the
second year the school had sent a
team to the tournament.
Avon Liu won the girls
under-19 title and Jiayi Zhou won
the under-15 girls title.
runner-up in the under-19
boys competition while Aarya
Advilkar won a bronze in the
under-15 girls. Jiayi, Alex and
Sang-Yong are all part of the New
Zealand age-group system.
Samuel Li and Zac McKellar
were part of the victorious boys
team. Teacher in charge of table
tennis, Tracy Taylor said with
no competition in the girls team
grade, they entered the open boys
grade and finished third.
“The only game our girls lost
was to our own boys team,” she
said. Taylor said she was thrilled
the team was able to defend their
titles and find a lot of individual
success.
“There were a lot of Auckland
teams up there who had never
seen us play and I think we were
able to catch them by surprise.”
Anxiety and breathing
– are they related?
When good breathing goes bad
Have you experienced any of these
• Feeling anxious and uptight
• Upset gut/nausea
• Chest pains*
• Shattered confidence
• Dizzy spells* or feeling spaced out
• Irritability or hypervigilance
• Frequent yawning and sighing
• Pins and needles
• Feelings of ‘air hunger’
of disturbing or frightening symptoms
puzzling to you and your doctor.
You feel unwell because of overbreathing,
A vicious cycle is established, which is a
major stress all by itself. This is experienced
currently by many Cantabrians, says Ietje
As she explains, it is normal to breathe fast
and in the upper chest when we are in danger
and fight or flight is needed. We know all
about that here, due to the earthquakes.
Normally, once the danger is gone, our
breathing should restore itself within a
couple of days. We would then be using the
diaphragm for our normal nonstressed
breathing. We have been having a hard
time restoring our breathing pattern
here in Canterbury because every time
our body tried to achieve that, the next
aftershock came rolling in. Even though the
aftershocks have significantly diminished,
some people’s fight or flight mode
breathing has become chronic, or habitual,
Ietje says. And, as she points out, using the
wrong muscles for breathing means these
overworked muscles cause headaches, neck
pain and jaw pain.
With fast upper chest breathing, sighing
and yawning, the resulting disturbance
of our oxygen and carbon dioxide levels
can give us the feeling we are not able to
control our own body. One moment you
are feeling fine, next moment your chest
feels tight, you feel out of breath, your
heart beats erratically and you may even
experience dizziness and/or tingling.
Very scary if you do not understand what
is happening. No wonder this causes
anxiety. Not being the boss over our own
body makes us anxious, anxiety feeds the
faulty breathing pattern, and so it goes on.
The BradCliff physiotherapists have
The tree of LIFE
New research on Gingko
Biloba excites researchers!
For decades scientists believed brain
damage with age, after a stroke or injury
was irreversible and brain neurons could
not be repaired. In more recent times,
new research has shown that neurons
can grow back with the right conditions
and that a special extract of Gingko
Biloba (EGb-761 or TEBONIN) has
been clinically found to assist in this.
The implications for stroke recovery are
obvious, but researchers also know many
of us suffer from undetected “microstrokes”
that over a period of time slowly
reduce our cognitive function. TEBONIN
is prescribed worldwide as a natural
supportive agent for a healthy brain and
cognitive function. It supports healthy
mental performance, concentration, focus,
alertness, motor function and to help
with many conditions including tinnitus
(ringing and noise in the ears), vertigo
and normal balance. TEBONIN improves
micro-circulation and helps the blood
flow reach those critical places it needs to
get. It is a potent anti-oxidant and makes
the red blood cells more pliable and
capillary walls more flexible.
TEBONIN is one of the most widely
studied and researched herbal products in
the world and is the only Ginkgo biloba
extract manufactured via a patented
multi-step extraction process. Each small
tablet contains a highly concentrated
50:1 extract to give you a therapeutic
clinical dose without having to take a large
amount of the herb. Of 25 Gingko biloba
products on the market, and tested by a
major medical journal, only TEBONIN
passed all five of the test requirements.
Ten brands didn’t meet any requirements
and the rest didn’t pass more than three
out of five requirements. TEBONIN is
the only Gingko biloba extract shown
to activated all areas of the brain and is
considered the gold standard in Gingko.
TEBONIN has been trusted by millions
of consumers worldwide for over 30
years with more than 8,000,000 tablets
consumed each day.
REAL ESTATE
Your own resort like private sanctuary
332 Kennedys Bush Road, Kennedys Bush
Auction: Thursday, 27 September 2018 Unless Sold Prior
5 bedrooms | 3 bathrooms | 3 toilets | 3 living rooms | 2 dining rooms | 1 office/study | 3 car-garage | 2 off-street parks | Listing # PI54538
This stunning luxury home is a beautifully
private paradise with spectacular views of the
Port Hills, Canterbury Plains and Southern
Alps. Whether you’re lounging in the pool
or sipping a drink on the magnificent deck
while admiring the spectacular sunsets
and the changing skies, this home has it all.
Situated in a dramatic sweeping landscape of
hills and wide-open vistas, with easy access to
Kennedys Bush Track and Halswell Quarry
Park, savour the tranquillity of semi-rural
living in a lovely hill suburb close to amenities
and only 15 minutes from the CBD.
The architecture of this stunning building
is accentuated with natural materials - stone,
wood and water - perfectly at home in this
unique environment. Stone feature walls
are complemented by extensive glazing to
capture sun, light and superb views. A series
of indoor and outdoor living spaces pivot
from the central lobby for exceptional flow
- indoors and out - and seamless relaxing
or entertaining. A sleek and well-appointed
kitchen overlooks open-plan casual living,
where a gas fire warms cooler evenings
and sliders open to a beautifully sheltered
deck. A separate second living space offers
an elegant sitting area (with its own gas
fire) and a dining area that seems to float
above the treetops. A palatial master suite
downstairs offers exceptional privacy and
direct access to the pool area, and is superbly
equipped with WIR, en suite and spacious
adjoining office/library. Four more bedrooms
(including a guest bedroom with en suite), a
family bathroom, separate laundry and triple
internal-access garage ensure this home is as
functional as it is breath-taking.
Outside, the 1,489 sqm grounds are
spectacularly landscaped to create a
completely private resort-style space for
relaxing and entertaining, complete with
inground pool, spa and children’s playground.
Planted in natives for easy maintenance
(perfect for a lock-up-and-leave lifestyle),
the garden is sheltered from easterly winds
for comfortable outdoor living. This is your
chance to secure your very own private
sanctuary from hectic modern living!
