staff welcomes you to our school magazine, published
for alumni, parents, students, friends, and the entire
Sandia Prep community. We hope you enjoy the
magazine.

What Art Has Taught Me
The range and depth of our arts program
allow our students the opportunity to
participate in all grades and at all levels.
Through participation in a high-quality
arts curriculum, SPS students learn about
themselves while discovering the world
around them.
On the Cover
Prep junior Maria Merritt '20 works on the
final stages of her "Pop Art Portrait" of
Wonder Woman. For this large-scale project,
students stretch and prime their own canvas,
project a famous face onto the surface, and
then dramatically shift the portrait from a
photographic rendering to a stylized version
of the face. The artists then look at typical
color choices for "pop art" and practice
making vibrant, audacious, fully saturated color
palettes.
