PRESENTACIÓN
PRESENTATION
La joyería contemporánea es, todavía, una disciplina bastante
desconocida, es difícil de definir. Es una práctica que parece
no pertenecer a ninguna parte y a todas partes al mismo
tiempo; una práctica que está arraigada en la artesanía, , el
arte visual y el diseño. Es un enfoque artístico que utiliza
técnicas tradicionales y modernas para conceptualizar una
idea. Un recipiente para expresar el talento individual. Esta
forma de joyería pretende reflexionar sobre la cultura del
momento teniendo en cuenta el contexto social.
El diseño no se limita a los metales nobles y a las piedras
preciosas, tiene un enfoque mucho más flexible de los materiales,
alentando a los diseñadores a diversificarse y ser
creativos. Esto le da al diseñador más voz en el resultado de
la pieza, así como el mensaje que transmite, buscando que el
consumidor compre basándose en ese mensaje y no tanto
en los materiales.
Los trabajos que se presentan en este libro son una
muestra maravillosa de joyería contemporánea, piezas únicas
que se enorgullecen de ser de uso diario.
Contemporary jewellery is still a fairly unknown discipline, it is
difficult to define. It is a practice that seems to belong nowhere
and everywhere at the same time; a practice that is rooted in
craftsmanship, visual art and design. It is an artistic approach
that uses traditional and modern techniques to conceptualize
an idea. It is a container to express individual talent. This form of
jewellery aims to reflect on the culture of the moment, taking into
account the social context.
The design is not limited to noble metals and precious stones,
it has a much more flexible approach to materials, encouraging
designers to diversify and be creative. This gives the designer
more voice in the result of the piece, as well as the message
it conveys, seeking to get the consumer to buy based on that
message and not so much on the materials.
The works presented in this book are a wonderful display of
contemporary jewellery, unique pieces that pride themselves on
being in everyday use.

Arte Y Joya International Award 2017 winner
El Premio Internacional Arte y Joya perfila su personalidad más investigadora.
Los candidatos son los artistas participantes en el Anuario
de Joyería Contemporánea. El premio recibe el nombre de la revista
decana del Grupo Duplex.
La elección siempre es reñida porque las propuestas representan
un verdadero laboratorio de creatividad, en la que queremos reconocer
la importancia de la joyería contemporánea como punta de
lanza en el desarrollo del sector.
El acto de entrega se realiza en el marco de JOYA, Contemporary
Jewellery Week, el contexto ideal para destacar los artistas que
se abren camino en todo el mundo.
The International Arte y Joya Award outlines its researcher personality.
Candidates to it are the artists participating in the Contemporary Jewellery
Yearbook. The award takes its name from the dean magazine of Grupo
Duplex.
The election is always hard-fought because the proposals represent a
veritable laboratory of creativity, in which we recognize the importance of
contemporary jewellery as spearhead sector development.
The award ceremony is performed under JOYA, Contemporary Jewellery
Week, which is the ideal context for highlight the artists who make
their way around the world.
La inspiración para mi colección “Bondage” por la cual recibí su premio
proviene principalmente de la naturaleza y sus estructuras. Desde el inicio
de esta serie de joyas, la coincidencia jugó un papel importante, al igual que
la experimentación a largo plazo y la búsqueda de materiales adecuados.
Las joyas capturan fuerzas enemistadas, actos de violencia. La sugestión
para este trabajo fueron las fotografías eróticas del artista japonés Nobuyoshi
Araki.
The inspiration for my “Bondage” collection for which I received your award
comes mainly from nature and its structures. From the beginning of this series
of jewels, coincidence played an important role, as did long-term experimentation
and the search for suitable materials. Jewels capture enemy forces, acts
of violence. The suggestion for this work was the erotic photographs of the
Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki.

ALBA DOMINGO - ADhoc joieria
Para mi las joyas no son un mero ornamento fiel a la estética
o al lujo, sino que me gusta contar historias a partir de ellas.
Esto les da sentido. Mi estilo, aunque puede ser a la vez sobrio
y elegante, siempre tiene un toque de originalidad, llegando
en ocasiones, a la excentricidad. Tengo el privilegio de vivir en
un entorno natural maravilloso que es la fuente de mi inspiración.
Esta pieza pretende ser un homenaje a la historia de
mi pueblo, Agullana, y a su vez, reivindicar el trabajo artesanal
arraigado a la tierra.
For me, jewellery is not just an ornament faithful to aesthetics
or luxury, but I like to tell stories from them. This makes sense.
My style, although it can be both sober and elegant, always has
a touch of originality, sometimes even eccentricity. I have the
privilege of living in a wonderful natural environment that is the
source of my inspiration. This piece is intended to be a tribute to
the history of my town, Agullana, and at the same time, claim the
craft work rooted in the land.

ALINE KOKINOPOULOS
Nací en Senegal y permanecí en África durante una gran
parte de mi infancia. Este es el origen de mi pasión por los
colores, las piedras y las diferentes joyas... Realicé mis estudios
de joyería en el sur de Francia en una escuela pluridisciplinar...
y más tarde, abrí mi taller en Marsella donde he estado
durante 20 años. Durante este período, he continuado mi
camino haciendo joyas para exposiciones, tiendas y coleccionistas.
I was born in Senegal and I stay in Africa during a long part of my
childhood. It s a result of my passion for colours, stones and different
jewels… I made my jewellery studies in the South of France
in a pluridisciplinar school… and later, I opened my workshop in
Marseille where I have been during 20 years. During this period,
I continued my way making jewellery for exhibitions, shops and
collectors.

ANDREA ROSALES-BALCARCEL
Nacida en la ciudad de Guatemala y establecida en Brooklyn,
Nueva York, Andrea Rosales-Balcarcel asistió al Pratt Institute
en 2016, graduándose con un BFA en Joyería y una licenciatura
en Historia del Arte. Perdida en su entorno, mapeó
Nueva York caminando a través de la ciudad, creando una
fascinante relación de identidad y entorno. Explora este
concepto con su colección “Walking Manhattan”, a través
del uso de la acuarela como medio para centrarse en la
documentación de vistas tangibles y emociones intangibles.
Born in Guatemala City, and now based in Brooklyn, New York,
Andrea Rosales-Balcarcel attended Pratt Institute in 2016,
graduating with a BFA in Jewelry and a minor in Art History.
Lost by her surroundings, she mapped herself to New York City
through the act of walking, forming a fascination with the relationship
of identity and environment. She explores this concept
with her collection “Walking Manhattan,” through the use of
watercolor sketching as a medium to focus on the documentation
of tangible sights and intangible emotion.

Soy diseñadora de joyería contemporánea desde 2010 y
también soy profesora. Creo series únicas y limitadas de
joyería utilizando principalmente platino, oro, plata, gemas
y piedras naturales semipreciosas. El anillo “A-Topic Gold
and Diamond” se fabrica utilizando técnicas de fundición
y construcción. Simboliza la singularidad de cada individuo;
queremos una vida tan hermosa como el diamante. El
concepto de la colección “A-Topic” se basa en el pensamiento
de Pascal: HOMBRE = CAÑA pensante.
Designer and manufacturer of contemporary jewelry since 2010
and also teacher, I create unique and limited jewellery series using
mainly platinum, gold, silver, gems and semiprecious natural
stones. The “A-Topic Gold and Diamond” ring is manufactured
by using casting and construction techniques. It symbolizes the
uniqueness of each individual; we want a life as beautiful as
diamond. The “A-Topic” collection concept is based on the pascalian

ARIEL LAVIAN
Mi diseño está influenciado por las materias primas que me
rodean. Creo nuevos mundos a partir de los recursos limitados
y encuentro una tremenda riqueza en el suelo, troncos
podridos, nidos de avispas, ramas de los árboles, objetos
rotos, viejas bolsas de plástico... cualquier cosa. Me centro
en el material y no en el objeto, lo estudio, comprendo sus
propiedades y lo uso para crear escenas pequeñas pero
completas de naturaleza escénica, ex-salvaje.
My design is influenced by the raw materials surrounding me. I
create new worlds from limited resources and find tremendous
wealth in the soil, the rotting logs, wasp’s nest, branches of the
trees, broken objects, old plastic bags, it can be anything. I refer
to the material and not to the object, study it, understand its
properties and use it to create small but complete scenes of
staged nature, ex-wild.

En física, una órbita es la trayectoria que describe un objeto
alrededor de otro mientras está bajo la influencia de una
fuerza central, como la fuerza gravitatoria. Me cautivan los
círculos y elipses imaginarios que se describen en el espacio
y me llevan a buscar esa ilusión en mis piezas. Las imagino y
las creo, dándoles un efecto de movimiento en suaves curvas
ondulantes.
In physics, an orbit is the trajectory that describes one object
around another while under the influence of a central force, such
as gravitational force. I am captivated by the imaginary circles
and ellipses that are described in space and lead me to look for
that illusion in my pieces. I imagine them and I create them, giving
them an effect of movement in soft undulating curves.

Por la noche, las piezas preciosas de joyería se suelen almacenar
por seguridad, mientras que los elementos de exposición
se dejan a la vista. Basada en esta observación, esta pieza
explora el límite entre los dos. Al transformar los cubos ordinarios
de plástico en joyas lujosas espero que la gente pueda
revalorizar los objetos que normalmente pasamos por alto.
At night, precious jewellery pieces are usually stored for safety,
while display props are left on view. Based on this observation,
this piece explores the boundary between the two. By transforming
the ordinary plastic pricing cubes into luxurious wearable
jewellery, I hope people can revalue the objects that we usually
overlook.

CARMEN CIANCIO
Veo el mundo de hoy como una red de líneas enredadas,
haciendo conexiones basadas en la fluidez de las fronteras
entre lo que parece ser y lo que realmente existe. Tejo los
objetos con líneas frágiles, permitiendo que su esencia fluida
cree espacios, en forma inestable. Tejen la red de la vida y
conectan regiones de mundos previamente separados. Es
dentro de este espacio creativo que existe la alegría creativa.
Empiezo con una imagen mental de una pieza, pero a medida
que evoluciona, su material influye en su propio diseño final.
I see today’s world as a web of tangled lines, making connections
based on the fluidity of boundaries between what seems to be
and what really exists. I weave the objects with hot and fragile
lines, allowing their fluid essence to create spaces, in an unstable
form. They weave the web of life and connect regions of worlds
previously separated. It is within this creative space that the
creative joy exists. I begin with a mental picture of a piece, but as
it evolves, its material influences its own final design.

Mi principal concepto al trabajar con Upcycling es que las
cosas se rompen, se ensucian, ya no están disponibles para
su uso, pero todavía podemos crear algo nuevo con ellas.
Podemos tomar sus mejores características y llevarlas a
la vanguardia, a una nueva vida como obra de arte. Según
nuestra naturaleza como seres humanos, podemos fracasar.
Pero tenemos que decidir que mañana es una pizarra,
una página nueva. Podemos empezar de nuevo, brillante y
resplandeciente No tenemos que repetir mañana lo de ayer.
Above all of my concepts, my main goal in working with Upcycling,
is that things can be broken, dirty, no longer available for use, but
we can still create something new with it. We can take the best
features and bring them to the forefront, for a new life as piece of
Art. As is the nature of life as human beings, we can fail, at a loss
broken. But we just have to decide that tomorrow is a whiteboard,
a fresh page. We can start a new, bright and shining. We don’t
have to replay yesterday tomorrow.

La artista entiende la joyería contemporánea como una forma
más de expresarse y como una prolongación de su vinculación
con el arte. Las piezas resultan con una enorme expresividad
y plasticidad, pero sin renunciar al concepto de adorno como
función principal de la joyería.

El broche es un homenaje a la Virgen del Rescate, la patrona
de mi ciudad, Sciacca (Sicilia); fue ella quien la liberó de la
peste de 1626, fue llevada en procesión de penitencia por
las calles de la ciudad para pedir “gracia”.
The artist understands contemporary jewellery as another way of
expressing herself and as an extension of her relationship with art.
The pieces result in an enormous expressiveness and plasticity,
but without renouncing the concept of adornment as the main
function of jewellery.
The brooch is a tribute to the Madonna of the rescue, the patron
saint of my city, Sciacca (Sicily); it was she who freed her from the
plague of 1626, was carried in a procession of penitence through
the streets of the city to ask for “grace”.

Me formé en arquitectura antes de descubrir la pasión por
la joyería y la cerámica donde encontré el placer de buscar
constantemente la belleza y las formas inspiradoras que se
pueden transformar en adornos, desarrollando un personal
estilo a través de la experimentación. A pesar de toda tecnología
que hoy se aplica a la joyería, lo que busco en mi trabajo
es confeccionar piezas artesanalmente, piezas con alma,
piezas originales, dibujando y produciendo mis joyas en una
búsqueda por objetos diferentes.
I trained in architecture before I discovered a passion for jewellery
and ceramics where I found the pleasure of constantly searching
for the beauty and inspiring shapes that can be transformed into
ornaments, developing a personal style through experimentation.
Despite all the technology that is applied to jewellery today, what I
look for in my work is to make handmade pieces, pieces with soul,
original pieces, drawing and producing my jewellery in a search
for different objects.

The artist sees what no longer exists or what has not yet

Estudió joyería, cincelado y fabricación de cadenas en la escuela

Trabaja desde 1993 como diseñadora independiente y como
docente. Al diseñar busca que el aspecto morfológico de sus
obras sea único y diferente a lo tradicional. Se inspira en las
formas que la rodean para crear colecciones de joyas realizadas
en plata y piedras semipreciosas.
She studied jewellery, chiselling and chain making at the “Maestro
Joyero Sergio Luquez” school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has
been working as a freelance designer and teacher since 1993.
When designing, she wants the morphological aspect of her works
to be unique and different from the traditional. She is inspired by
the shapes that surround it to create collections of jewellery made

HAN DONG
Mis obras utilizan algunas de las colecciones más antiguas de
la antigua China. Son modelos completos y únicos, tienen
mucha tensión, su abstracción es suficiente para impactar
en la actualidad. Los combino con materiales como conchas
y madera. La madera te hace sentir cálido, la estructura de
la fibra de madera la hace extremadamente fuerte, al tallar
para mantener su sentido de la vida. A través de mis obras,
espero encontrar el complejo inconsciente y la felicidad en
la naturaleza.
My works use some of the oldest collections of ancient China. I
use them because they’re full and unique modelling, have a lot of
tension, their abstraction is enough to shock the present day. In
my work, they are usually combined with materials such as shells
and wood. The wood makes person feel warm; the structure
of the wood fiber makes it extremely strong, when carving to
maintain its sense of life. Through my works, I hope to find the
unconscious complex and happiness in nature.

Me interesa sobre todo la espacialidad, la dirección y el movimiento.
De este modo, mi objetivo es vincular la acción de
vestir con la forma escultórica. Aplicando mi propia técnica,
genero tensión en el haz de tiras de cartón. En la etapa final
de la fabricación, el movimiento de mis manos entra en
diálogo con el movimiento del material. Esto se manifiesta en
la dinámica de los trabajos de joyería escultórica.
I am mainly interested in spatiality, direction and movement.
Thereby, I am aiming at linking wearability with sculptural form.
By applying my own technique, I generate tension in the bundle of
cardboard stripes. In the final stage of the making, the movement
of my hands enters a dialog with the movement of the material.
This manifests itself in the dynamics of the sculptural jewellery
works.

Diseño y trabajo en mi taller en Buenos Aires desarrollando
piezas únicas o seriadas. Mi obra nace de un concepto, de la
pregunta por el ser, por las injusticias, por el maltrato hacia
los recursos naturales, por los valores humanos. Para realizar
mis piezas, trabajo con imágenes abstractas y geométricas,
como así también las sacadas de la naturaleza. Con las cuales
pretendo hacer “detener la mirada” aunque sea por un
instante en este tiempo vertiginoso en el que vivimos.
I design and work in my workshop in Buenos Aires developing
unique or serial pieces. My work is born from a concept, from the
question of being, for the injustice, for the mistreatment of natural
resources, for the human values. To make my pieces, I work with
abstract and geometric images, as well as those taken from
nature. With which I intend to “stop the look” even for a moment
in this dizzying time in which we live.

My jewellery exploits serendipity and chaos. Each piece is unique
and captures a fleeting moment. My latest collection highlights
the fluid qualities of silver and gold. It is inspired by the textures
and processes of nature, from geological forms to landslides and
flows. I like to experiment with unusual and everyday materials
and invent techniques to bring out hidden and unexpected
characteristics of metals and stones.

return to the roots accurately describe the jewellery pieces. The
collection is about true life and it articulates our connection to

La combinación de tecnología moderna, experto artesano
y un uso innovador de materiales ha sido siempre mi
forma de hacer joyas. Últimamente, me he centrado en la
madera contrachapada artesanal. Laminada a altas presiones
y temperaturas, es excepcionalmente duradera y un material
increíblemente bello. Las formas trabajadas de varias maneras
dan como resultado una superficie hermosa y característica
que ofrece posibilidades ilimitadas para la interacción entre
la forma y la estructura de la superficie.
The combination of modern technology, expert artisan, and an
innovative use of materials has always been my way of making
jewellery. Lately, I have been focusing on craft plywood. It is laminated
under high pressure and temperatures rendering it exceptionally
durable and also an incredibly beautiful material. Shapes
worked in various ways result in a beautiful and characteristic
surface patterns on the material and offer unlimited possibilities
for the interplay between form and surface structure.

En la búsqueda de ensalzar la gema, busco un diseño que
acompañe en su viaje a este Ametrino de 24 ct., con una talla
fantasía muy especial, como si se tratase de una cometa y el
aire mismo lo acompañara, lapidado en forma de burbujas
en la propia piedra. Así esta pieza bautizada con el nombre
de ‘Bubble’ dibuja en el metal utilizado, oro rojo de 18Kt,
las propias burbujas de un buen Champagne o Cava, que
acompañará a esta preciosa gema natural de 22x16x10 mm.
La pieza se acompaña de colgante y pendientes. Es única y
realizada a mano.
In my quest to extol the gem, I’m looking for a design to accompany
this 24 ct. Ametrine on its journey, with a very special
fantasy carving, as if it were a kite and the air itself accompanied
it, stoned in the form of bubbles on the stone itself. Thus, this
piece, named `Bubble’, draws the bubbles of good Champagne or
Cava on the 18Kt red gold metal used, which will accompany this
precious natural gem sized 22x16x10 mm. The piece is accompanied
by pendant and earrings. It is unique and handmade.

The earrings in the new Circle Collection are made from flat
capsules, printed on tinplate, set in gold galvanized brass with
natural stones. The images impressed on the capsules are
asymmetric. Lebole Gioielli reaffirms its ability to draw inspiration
from materials that belong to other fields, giving them new life.
The flat capsule used in this collection is nothing other than the
metallic disc at the top of the wire hood that holds a champagne
cork in place. The capsules used have been designed exclusively

VIII PREMIO ARTE Y JOYA
Me gradué en la Academia de Artes, Arquitectura y Diseño de Praga.
Comencé mis estudios en el Taller de Metal y Joyería del escultor y académico
V. K. Novák, y los completé en el Taller K.O.V. (“Concepto, Objeto,
Sentido”) de la profesora Eva Eisler. Diseño y realizo joyas/objetos que
bordean la obra de arte. A menudo utilizo materiales tradicionales y no
tradicionales en mi trabajo (plástico, papel, goma, madera...) en combinación
con metal. Veo el diseño de nuevas joyas como un experimento y un
juego con el material; trato de ir al límite de sus posibilidades. En los últimos
años, mi inspiración se ha basado especialmente en formas orgánicas
naturales. Trato de encontrar una cierta armonía y equilibrio en mi trabajo.
La joya, en mi opinión, es un objeto que completa la personalidad de su
portador, pero al mismo tiempo es una obra en sí misma.

I graduated at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. I
started my studies in the Metal and Jewellery Atelier of academic sculptor, V.
K. Novák, and completed them in the K.O.V. (“Concept, Object, Meaning”)
atelier of Prof. Eva Eisler. I design and create jewellery/objects bordering on
objets d’art. I often use non-traditional as well as traditional materials in
my work (plastic, paper, rubber, wood…) in combination with metal. I see
designing new jewellery as an experiment and play with material; I try to go
to the limits of its possibilities. In recent years, my inspiration has been based
especially on natural organic forms. I try to find a certain kind of harmony and
balance in my work. Jewellery, in my opinion, is an object which completes the
personality of its wearer, but at the same time is a work in itself.

Existe una técnica de esclavitud erótica que a menudo deja
el cuerpo de la mujer colgando impotente en un espacio
abierto, atado con cuerdas. Esto me provoca una sensación
de ansiedad y angustia. De la misma manera, até las
joyas. También jugó un papel importante la experimentación
a largo plazo y la búsqueda de materiales adecuados.
Experimentando con caucho y obstrucciones, pude formar
creaciones abultadas que se asemejan a organismos vivos en
crecimiento. Inspiración para este trabajo fueron las fotografías
eróticas del artista japonés Nobuyoshi Araki.
There is a technique of erotic slavery that often leaves a woman’s
body hanging helplessly in an open space, tied with ropes. This
causes me a sense of anxiety and anguish. In the same way, I tied
the jewels. Long-term experimentation and the search for suitable
materials also played an important role. By experimenting with
rubber and obstructions, I was able to form bulky creations that
resemble growing living organisms. Inspiration for this work was
the erotic photographs of the Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki.

Desde mi lugar de productora de piezas de joyería, me interesa
cuestionar la idea tradicional del arte y jugar con el límite
de este. Entiendo a la joyería como una disciplina que pendula
entre el hecho artístico y la idea de un objeto decorativo y
funcional; y al cuerpo como campo y soporte de este hecho
artístico. Mi recorrido por la joyería es un intento constante
de hermanar estas nociones y así lograr una instancia superadora:
un objeto artístico portable, cargado de contenido,
de poesía, de historia.
As a jewellery producer, I am interested in questioning the traditional
idea of art and playing with its limits. I understand jewellery
as a discipline that swings between the artistic fact and the idea
of a decorative and functional object; and the body as the field
and support of this artistic fact. My journey through jewellery
is a constant attempt to unite these notions and thus achieve
a better instance: an artistic, wearable object, full of content,
poetry and history.

LIMA PINHEIRO
Es Arquitecta y diseñadora, graduada en 1991. Estudió diseño
gráfico y diseño artístico en Florencia, Italia. Comenzó a hacer
joyería en 2009. En 2017, fue a la Escuela Alchimia en Florencia,
Italia, para asistir a un Curso Intensivo de Joyería Contemporánea.
Su trabajo está influenciado por la manera en que
el diseño se relaciona con el comportamiento, la forma y
la función humana. Siempre está buscando una mezcla de

She’s Architect and designer, graduated in 1991. Studied graphic
design and artistic design in Florence, Italy. She began to make
jewelry in 2009. In 2017, she went to Alchimia School in Florence,
Italy, to attend an Intensive Course of Contemporary Jewellery. Her
work is influenced by the way design relates to the human behavior,
form and function. She’s always seeking for mixture of materials that

de Martin Spreng se nutre de su experiencia en marquetería,
ebanistería y escultura. Co-fundador del grupo de
artistas Xylos, aplica al metal los tratamientos marcados por
la huella voluntaria de la herramienta. Sus creaciones son
violentas, poéticas, galácticas, todo en sutiles confrontaciones
de formas, materiales y colores que atraen inmediatamente
la mirada.
The jeweler who comes from somewhere else. Martin Spreng’s
creative expression is nourished by his experience in marquetry,
woodwork and sculpture. Co-founder of the Xylos group of artists,
he applies to metal the treatments marked by the voluntary
mark of the tool. His creations are violent, poetic, galactic, all
in subtle confrontations of shapes, materials and colours that

Materia Design is for Rosalba and Laura the result of a shared
passion for materials and their pliability. An explorative energy
guides both hands and mind towards the creation of jewelry
new in shape and perceptually diverse in conception. Unlike
traditional jewelry, its preciousness is obtained through playful
creativity and free use of forms. An unusual use of materials and
contrasts contribute to turning an intuition into a decorative item

Las joyas “Midzo” del escultor croata Ivan Midzic están
hechas a mano en varios metales respetando su naturaleza.
La joyería es la plataforma de Ivan para crear siempre nuevos,

bellas artes puras como su primer tema de estudio. Por lo

“Midzo” jewellery by the Croatian sculptor Ivan Midzic is hand

Linha rinde homenaje a Portugal, al descubrimiento de una
arquitectura minimalista y contemporánea que se inserta en
el tejido histórico de la ciudad; como en los rasgos afilados de
la Casa da Musica de Oporto, el bloque de cemento blanco
que sobresale sobre el cielo azul. La imagen de la pulcritud
ha inspirado la creación de piezas explorando nuevas geometrías:
formas rígidas que encuentran su original suavidad. El
recuerdo de Portugal está salvaguardado en los rayos que
iluminan la colección, definidos por el bronce que alterna
con el acero.
Linha pays homage to Portugal, to the discovery of minimalist,
contemporary architecture which inserts itself into the historical
tissue of the city; as in the edgy features of the Music Hall of
Oporto, the block of white cement which stands out against the
blue sky. The stunning image of neatness has inspired the creation
of pieces exploring new shapes and geometry: rigid forms
which find their original fluffiness. The memory of Portugal is
safeguarded in the beams which enlighten the collection, defined
by bronze which alternates with steel.

Siempre veo flores o elementos que las evocan por lo que,
inevitablemente, termino diseñando colecciones inspiradas
en ellas. Sintetizo y conceptualizo formas, colores y texturas

le son propios y que, en unión con aquellos que si lo son,
adquieren valor en el nuevo contexto de uso.
I always see flowers or elements that evoke them, so I inevitably
end up designing collections inspired by them. I synthesize and
conceptualize floral shapes, colors and textures, creating delicate
and colorful pieces. I seek to transfer the techniques and rigors of
jewelry to materials that are not their own and that, together with
those that are, acquire value in the new context of use.

Pauletta Brooks crea obras que provienen de un lugar de
misterio, belleza y fantasía. Cada pieza se desarrolla individualmente,
ya que instintivamente permite que los materiales
dicten la forma, todo ello teniendo en cuenta la función del
usuario. Sus piezas distintivas son inconfundibles: objetos
decorativos escultóricos, orgánicos y atrevidos que a menudo
parecen sacados del mar, de la guarida de una sirena.
Pauletta Brooks creates work that comes from a place of mystery,
beauty and fantasy. Each piece develops individually as she
instinctively allows the materials to dictate the form; all while
keeping in mind the function to the wearer. Her signature pieces
are unmistakable: sculptural, organic, and bold, decorative items
that often look as if they’ve been dredged up from the sea from
a mermaid’s lair.

En esta obra sigo experimentando con diferentes técnicas
y materiales, utilizo metacrilatos fluorescentes, varios tipos
de maderas nobles y plata. Juego con volúmenes irregulares
y de distribución aleatoria que se cortan e intersectan con
diferentes líneas que le dan unidad al conjunto, en el que el
color y la luz, juegan un papel fundamental. Foto superior con
luz blanca, inferior con luz ultravioleta.
In this work I continue to experiment with different techniques
and materials, using fluorescent methacrylates, various types of
noble woods and silver. I play with irregular volumes and random
distribution that are cut and intersect with different lines that give
unity to the whole, in which colour and light play a fundamental

Diseño joyas, soy artista. Nací en China, vivo en Londres y
estoy a punto de graduarme de Central Saint Martins en
julio de 2018. Personalmente, creo que las joyas pueden ser
recuerdos para la gente, trayendo recuerdos, o pueden ser
piezas de arte en el cuerpo humano, expresando creencias
e ideas. Por esta razón, nunca me limito a elegir materiales
para hacer joyas. Me dedico a combinar arte y joyería, dejar
que la joyería hable por sí misma y por su dueño, más que
sólo una decoración.
I am a jewellery designer meanwhile, an artist. I was born in
China, now lives in London and about to graduate from Central
Saint Martins in July 2018. Personally, I think jewellery can be
mementos for people, bringing back memories, or it can be
art pieces on human body, expressing believes and ideas. For
this reason, I never restrict myself on choosing materials to
make jewellery. I devote myself to combine art and jewellery,
let jewellery speak for itself and for its owner, rather than just a

Enamorada del diseño por ordenador y del esmalte vítreo,
adora fusionar ambas técnicas para crear joyas personales
y únicas. Para el diseño de la Colección Herba se inspira en
la geometría fractal del nenúfar gigante. Las repeticiones de
formas de esta geometría simbolizan evolución, desarrollo,
crecimiento, vida. Para ella la vida es sinónimo de felicidad y
alegría y transmite ambos conceptos haciendo uso de la luz
y el color empleando la técnica de esmalte vitral. A modo de
vidriera la luz atraviesa los esmaltes y muestra su colorido.
In love with computer design and vitreous enamel, she loves to
fuse both techniques to create unique and personal jewelry.
The design of the Herba Collection is inspired by the fractal
geometry of the giant water lily. The repetition of patterns of this
geometry symbolize evolution, growth, life. For her, life is synonymous
with happiness and joy and she transmits both concepts
using light and color through the use of pliqué a jour technique.
As a kind of stained glass window, the light passes through the
enamels and show it’s coloring.

Mi trabajo siempre se ha inspirado en antiguos mitos, motivos
y trabajos de orfebrería. Las dos piezas expuestas están
creadas siguiendo la tradición de los iconos llevables. Sus
temas centrales son los nombres de los propietarios y los
motivos/mitos que aluden a ellos. Grabados en el dorso,
estos iconos fueron creados con la convicción de que tienen
el poder de proteger a sus dueños durante la vida.
My work has always been inspired by ancient myths, motifs and
goldsmith work. The two pieces displayed are created in the
tradition of wearable ikons. Their central themes are the owners´
names and motifs/myths that allude to these. Engraved on their
back, these ikons were created in the conviction that they have
the power to protect their owners through life.

Throughout time the hummingbird has been considered as a
divine being, with magical attributes inspiring fantastic legends,
for its beauty and harmony of colours... One of the many legends
tells us that death is not the end of life, that man when dying
leaves the body on earth, but his soul continues its existence,
becomes a flower and awaits the magical hummingbird, who will
guide it to paradise on its final journey.

Formas distorsionadas del cuerpo humano. Percepciones
visuales desafiantes. La relación y el flujo entre cuerpo,
objeto, espacio. Lo que sucede en el encuentro de diferentes
elementos: lo abstracto y lo figurativo, lo mínimo y

visuales y emocionales, estoy explorando el cuerpo junto con

The relation and flux between body, object, space and the
fragments of form. What happens in the meeting of different
elements: the abstract and the figurative, the minimal and the
complex, the organic and the man-made. In search of visual and

Inspirada en la Arquitectura Icónica y guiada por el amor
al Diseño Moderno Mínimo, cada pieza es un estudio en el
equilibrio entre estructura y espacio negativo. La cadena se
convierte no sólo en un soporte para el colgante, sino en
una parte integral del diseño en sí, diseñado para ser fijo y
fluido a la vez.
Inspired by Iconic Architecture and guided by a love of Minimal
Modern Design, each piece is a study in the balance of structure
and negative space. The chain becomes not just a carrier for the
pendant but an integral part of the design itself, engineered to be
both fixed and fluid all at once.

El engaste del anillo quiere ser usado en la cabeza y se
convierte en una corona. Está a punto de dar a la joyería una
característica vívida, de tratar la joyería como objetos vivos, de
ver la joyería desde un ángulo diferente - pensando desde la
joyería misma, y de preguntar a la joyería qué es lo que quiere
ser. El engaste ya no es lo que parecía al cambiar la función y
los tamaños. Se convierte en lo que quiere ser y aparece en
una parte inesperada del cuerpo, dando una sensación de
“Por qué no”.
The ring setting wants to be worn on head and becomes a crown.
It is about to give jewellery a vivid characteristic, to treat jewellery
as living objects, to see jewellery from a different angle--thinking
from the jewellery itself, and ask the jewellery what does the it
wants to be. The setting is not what it looks like any more by changing
in function and sizes. It becomes what they want to be, and
appears on unexpected body part, giving a sense of “Why not”.

Su trabajo está relacionado con las ideas del movimiento
corporal y la cultura china. Inspirada en las pinturas Zen y
Gongbi, infunde en sus diseños la artesanía tradicional y la
estética de los burócratas eruditos chinos. Mediante el uso
de muelles, remaches y anillos de salto, crea un movimiento
fluido para que sus joyas reconstruyan la filosofía armoniosa
que existe entre la naturaleza y lo humano. Cuando el cuerpo
se convierte en parte de la joya, la pieza entera se convierte
en una pintura llevable impregnada de estética oriental.
Her work is closely connected to ideas of body movement and
Chinese culture. Inspired by the spirit of Zen and Chinese Gongbi
paintings, she infuses her designs with the traditional craftsmanship
and aesthetics of Chinese scholar-bureaucrats. By using
springs, rivets, and jump-rings, she creates fluent movement so
that her jewellery reconstructs the harmonious philosophy that
exists between nature and human. When the body becomes part
of the jewellery, the whole piece turns into a wearable painting
infused with oriental aesthetic.

BCNJoya
BCNJoya celebra su cuarta edición, del 22 al 25 de septiembre, con las propuestas de
120 firmas de joyería comercial, de alta gama y de diseño, platería, relojería, maquinaria
y productos afines. Así, se confirma por cuarto año consecutivo el desarrollo sostenido
que BCNJoya registra desde su primera edición celebrada en 2015.
Como novedad, BCNJoya dedica un área exclusivamente a la joyería más vanguardista,
fruto de la creatividad del diseñador y de la elaboración artesanal de las piezas. De
hecho, este nuevo ámbito, bajo el epígrafe “BCNJoya Concept” pretende mostrar lo
último en joyería de diseño. Gemma López, Joan Datzira, Santi Capó o Elisenda de
Haro son solo algunos de los 30 autores que integrarán esta área con sus singulares
propuestas.
El salón también acoge Special Expert Event (SEE), el espacio que reúne unas 15 actividades
entre talleres y charlas divulgativas a cargo de reconocidos expertos sobre temas
como interiorismo comercial o estrategias de venta online y offline. Con las propuestas
transmitidas a través de las conferencias y talleres, se pretende apoyar a los visitantes
del salón, en la búsqueda de soluciones innovadoras y fácilmente aplicables a su trabajo,
que les ayuden a dinamizar las ventas y a mejorar los resultados de su negocio.
Según las previsiones, gracias a su oferta transversal de sectores sinérgicos y a sus
propuestas formativas, el salón prevé recibir la visita de unos 11.000 profesionales procedentes
de Cataluña, Aragón, Andorra, Valencia, Baleares, País Vasco y sur de Francia.

BCNJoya hold its fourth edition, from September 22 to 25, with the creations of
120 brands of costume, high-end and designer jewellery, silverware, watch making,
associated machinery and products. The show has sustained its growth that over
the fours year since its first edition, held in 2015.
For the first time, BCNJoya will devote an area exclusively to the most cutting-edge
jewellery, fruit of the designer’s creativity and the craftsman ship in the pieces. The
main aim of this new area, under the name “BCNJoya Concept”, is to show the
latest in designer jewellery. Gemma López, Joan Datzira, Santi Capó and Elisenda
de Haro are just some of the 30 designers who will bring their unique creations.
The show also host Special Expert Event (SEE), the space that brings together
some 15 activities in workshops and talks by recognised experts on topics such
as commercial interior design and on-line and off line sales strategies. With the
knowledge imparted at these conferences, the aim is to inspire visitors to the show,
mostly distributors, decorators, wholesalers and especially retail channel professionals,

help to boost sales and improve the bottom line.
Current predictions are that thanks to the broad cross-section of the market
represented and its learning opportunities, the fair will be visited by some 11,000
professionals from Catalonia, Aragon, Andorra, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, the
Basque Country and southern France.

A lo largo del curso 2017 mi maestra Susana
Alonso propone un ejercicio que nos sirve de
fuente de inspiración. La pieza presentada se
denomina “El Nilo” recurso utilizado para el
tema propuesto: Egipto un don del Nilo…
El Nilo es movimiento, color y riqueza, tres
variables que he intentado expresar en la construcción
de esta pieza. Los materiales utilizados
son: hilo de cáñamo, cobre y latón, materiales
primarios naturales y que ya se usaban en la
elaboración de infinidad de utensilios y joyas
en el antiguo Egipto. Deseo expresar la fuerza
de todos ellos: el cobre bajo el hechizo del
fuego y el aire que lo patina y que representa
el movimiento del agua, el latón con sus tonos dorados en homenaje a Ra (dios del cielo y del sol) y el cáñamo, fibra vegetal empleada para la construcción
de las barcas que navegaban en el Nilo.
Una vez unidas las piezas, para hacer más rígido el conjunto y mantener las fajas unidas, se ata con cordón de cáñamo adoptando la forma semicircular a
semejanza de un collar Usej, (joya que utilizaba la nobleza en el antiguo Egipto como talismán). El collar queda encajado en el cuello y apoyado sobre los
hombros equilibrándose con la pieza circular de latón que desliza sobre la espalda.

STUDENT: MARGARITA TORRENTE
Throughout the 2017 academic year my teacher Susana Alonso proposes an exercise that serves as a source of inspiration. The piece presented is called “The Nile”
resource used for the proposed theme: Egypt a gift of the Nile...
The Nile is movement, colour and richness, three variables that I have tried to express in the construction of this piece. The materials used are: hemp, copper and brass
yarn, natural primary materials that were already used in the elaboration of countless utensils and jewels in ancient Egypt. I wish to express the strength of all of them:
the copper under the spell of fire and the air that patinates it and represents the movement of water, the brass with its golden tones in homage to Ra (god of the sky
and the sun) and the hemp, vegetable fibre used for the construction of the boats that sailed on the Nile.
Once the pieces are joined together, to make the whole more rigid and to keep the strips together, they are tied with hemp cord in the shape of a semicircular Usej
necklace (a jewel used by the nobility in ancient Egypt as a talisman). The necklace is fitted to the neck and rests on the shoulders, balancing with the circular piece of
brass that slides over the back.

MADRIDJOYA
La moda y las tendencias para la temporada otoño-invierno ocuparon el pabellón 10
de IFEMA, en el que se celebró el salón MadridJoya. Siempre con su espacio dedicado
a jóvenes empresas y emprendedores en la zona de stands MINIS, que nuevamente
sorprendieron con ideas frescas e innovadoras.
Se pudo participar también en un programa de actividades en el Speaker´s Corner
del Pabellón 10, con 21 talleres y charlas, múltiples temas enfocados la importancia de
la moda en este sector fueron los grandes destacados de esta edición.
Como en anteriores ediciones, la exposición Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea
aportó una imagen internacional de joyería creativa e innovadora presentando las obras
de los participantes en el libro homónimo.
Fashion and trends for the autumn-winter season occupied pavilion 10 of IFEMA, where the
MadridJoya show was held. Always with its space dedicated to young companies and entrepreneurs
in the area of MINIS stands, which again surprised with fresh and innovative ideas.
It was also possible to participate in a program of activities in the Speaker´s Corner, with

BCNJoya se celebró por tercera vez en el marco de Expohogar, triplicando el número
de expositores desde su primera edición en 2015. Entre los participantes de conjuga
tradición e innovación en el diseño y en los sistemas de elaboración, fusionando técnicas
artesanales con soluciones tecnológicas de última generación.
En esta edición se habilitó un nuevo espacio reservado a los artesanos y diseñadores
de joyas. Este colectivo conformó una nueva área con el objetivo de “joyas muy personales
que conjugan arte y artesanía. Hemos decidido impulsar este nuevo ámbito para
poner el foco en diseños únicos y manufacturas singulares, fruto del trabajo de autores
que gracias a su exclusiva apuesta creativa consiguen plasmar objetos sorprendentes,
contemporáneos y personalizados”, afirmó Josep Alcaráz, director del salón.
Por primera vez en este marco, la exposición Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea
aportó una imagen internacional de joyería creativa e innovadora presentando las obras
de los participantes en el libro homónimo.

BCNJoya was held for the third time at Expohogar, tripling the number of exhibitors since its
first edition in 2015. Among the participants, there is a combination of tradition and innovation
in design and manufacturing systems, combining craftsmanship with state-of-the-art
technological solutions.
In this edition, a new space reserved for craftsmen and jewellery designers was set up. This
collective formed a new area with the objective of “very personal jewels that combine art and
craftsmanship. We have decided to promote this new area in order to focus on unique designs
and unique manufactures, the result of the work of authors who, thanks to their exclusive
creative commitment, are able to create surprising, contemporary and personalised objects”,
said Josep Alcaráz, director of the show.
For the first time under this show, the exhibition Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook provided
an international image of creative and innovative jewellery presenting the works of the participants
in the book of the same name.

JOYA
JOYA es una plataforma de exposición nacional e internacional que cuenta con un
gran número de colaboraciones con galerías y otros eventos del sector. Su objetivo
es promover a los artistas nacionales e internacionales a través de la exposición,
apoyar la joyería y ayudar a abrir un mercado artístico que ha permanecido
subexplotado hasta ahora. Además, JOYA es una plataforma para que los artistas
interactúen y compartan.
En la edición 2017, nuevos participantes se unieron a los ya veteranos, en un total
de más de 300 artistas de todo el mundo, consiguiendo uno de los más innovadores
en cuanto a diseño y vanguardia.
Entre los eventos paralelos, se celebró, como viene sucediendo en todas las
ediciones, la entrega del Premio Arte Y Joya con el que se galardona a uno de los
participantes en el Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea. Una elección reñida ya que
las obras candidatas son una perfecta muestra de investigación y creación dentro
del mundo de la joyería contemporánea.
Los miembros del jurado fueron: Anthony Chevallier y Paulo Ribeiro, de Le Département,
organizadores y directores de JOYA; Eliana Negroni, comisaria de Gioielli in
Fermento; Montserrat Lacomba, diseñadora de joyería contemporánea, fundadora
del prestigioso blog www.blog.mardecolorrosa.com; y Piotr Rybaczek, diseñador y
escultor, fundador y director de La Basílica.
JOYA
JOYA is a national and international exhibition platform that has a large number of collaborations
with galleries and other events in the field. Its goal is to promote national and
international artists through the exhibition, support jewellery and help open up an artistic
market that has remained under-exploited until now. Moreover, JOYA is a platform for
artists to interact and share.
In the 2017 edition, new participants joined the veterans, in a total of more than 300
artists from around the world, achieving one of the most innovative in terms of design
and cutting edge.
Among the parallel events, as has been happening in all editions, it took place the ceremony
of the the Arte Y Joya Award with which is awarded one of the participants in the
Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook. A hard choice as the candidates works are a perfect
example of research and creation in the world of contemporary jewellery.
The members of the jury were: Anthony Chevallier and Paulo Ribeiro, Le Département,
JOYA Barcelona organizers and managers; Eliana Negroni, curator of the Gioielli in
Fermento; Montserrat Lacomba, contemporary jewellery designer, founder and manager
of the prestigious blog www.blog.mardecolorrosa.com; and, Piotr Rybaczek, designer and
sculptor, founder and director of La Basílica Gallery.
The winner of this eighth edition was the Czech artist Lucie Houdková.
