Why Should I Be Oil Pulling?
There is often a preconception that if it’s a natural
technique it won’t be as good as the latest
chemical option however many holistic treatments
have stood the test of time and continue to be
passed down from generation to generation. Oil
pulling is one that I can certainly see staying for
many years to come.
What is Oil Pulling?
It is a traditional Indian Ayurvedic technique
that draws toxins from the mouth and the body
through the gums, teeth and pores in the mouth.
Trapping bacteria that can then be expelled when
the oil is removed.
It is estimated that this holistic technique has been
used for between 3000-5000 years! To me that
shows that this is not a fad and there is a science
behind the technique that has withstood the test
of time.
Which oil should I use?
My personal choice is Coconut oil as it is known
to be particularly effective due to its natural
antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. I
personally feel more comfortable with the delicate
taste and light texture.
However you could also use sesame or sunflower
oil. You may also like to consider an oil pulling
mouthwash as it already comes in liquid form and
may fit in to your general routine with ease. I use
the Georganics oil pulling mouthwash in english
peppermint - lovely and refreshing in the morning.
