THE
FAILPROOF
FORMULA
YOU CAN WRITE
COPY THAT
SELLS TO HELP
YOU SELL MORE,
STRESS LESS,
AND SAVE TIME
WRITING COPY.
By Alicia Kacar
WBSOCIETY.COM ISSUE 06

"Sell more, stress
less, and save time
writing copy"
• Do you struggle with writing words that
sell?
• Do your sales pages and emails fail to
covert?
• Do you wonder why prospects aren’t
purchasing, even though your product is
AWESOME?
It could be your copy. Every day I speak to
clients who feel scared, confused and
completely overwhelmed by the thought of
writing sales copy. Here’s what they usually
say:
• I don’t like writing about myself
• I don’t want to sound too ‘salesy’
• I’m not a confident writer
• I’m not a good writer
• I don’t have time to write copy
• I don’t know how to write copy
• All of the above
Does this sound familiar? If you’re not a
professional writer or a professional
salesperson, writing sales copy can be
hard. But here’s a home truth you need to
hear: Being modest is bad for business.
Your copy is what connects you with your
ideal customers. Whether it’s through your
website, social media or a sales page,
copy is often the first interaction you have
with a prospect – and it can make or
break the deal.
Great copy fills prospective customers
with confidence. It pinpoints people’s
problems and fears. It makes readers
WANT to whip out their credit cards and
give you ALL their money right now,
because your service sounds so good.
Until your copy does this, you’re missing
out on sales.
Best case scenario, you’ll lose customers.
Worst case scenario, you’ll leave a bad
impression of your business. Either way,
the blood, sweat and tears you spent
writing copy will be a total waste of time.
Fortunately, there’s a failproof
copywriting formula that will work for
you, whether you’re a seasoned writer or a
complete novice. The formula is called
PAS. It stands for Problem, Agitation,
Solution – and it works for all kinds of
copy. Here’s how PAS works.

COPYWRITING FORMULA
1. Problem
Always start with the problem first. If you
want an emotional response from your
reader, you need to understand the
problems they face. More than that, you
need to SHOW them you understand –
fast. Use your headline and first paragraph
to highlight the pain point, so your reader
resonates straight away.
2. Agitation
Once you’ve clearly laid out the problem,
don’t sugar coat it. Poke at your reader’s
pain point until it gets uncomfortable.
The perfect reaction from your reader
would be ‘Yes, this is EXACTLY how I feel
– and I’m bloody sick of it!’ Make your
reader hungry for a solution.

3. Solution
Now you get to be the hero. Present your
reader with the answer they’ve been
looking for – your amazing product or
service.
I love PAS because it helps me hone in on
customer’s pain points, dig into the
emotions around them and, most
importantly, show empathy. The PAS
formula has been around for decades, and
it continues to deliver proven results.
PAS Formula
in action
Want to see the PAS formula in action? Go
back and re-read this article. You’ll see
PAS in play.
I hope I’ve sold you on the PAS formula. I’d
love to see you using PAS to create a clear
structure for your sales copy. Try it and let
me know how you go.
“Dig deep to find out why you are doing
How does she do
it?
Why and when did you start your own
business?
The Artz Collective was formed in 2000,
however as a professional performer, I would
say I’ve been running my business as my
personal brand and a professional performing
arts contractor since I was 13yrs old, really. (It
sounds strange but that’s when I started
getting paid for dance, acting and singing
jobs).
What does being a business owner mean to
you?
It’s about helping others to reach their goals
whilst you work toward your own. I think of it
as a way to give back & pursue my creative
passion of the performing arts & passing on
my performing and teaching heritage, I guess
it’s a legacy I can leave behind, and it means I
can design my life a little easier than with
someone else telling me where and when I
have to work to a point – however, that’s not
always the case.
"I’ve had a pretty long career in
the performing arts, first as a
dancer, then a musical theatre
artist and now a singer".
W I T H Z I G G Y C L E M E N T S
What or who has been your greatest
influence in business and why?
I have had so many great mentors over the
years but I follow a few performing arts
school operators in the United States, they
are great examples, such as The Edge in LA
or NYC’s Broadway Dance Centre, but my
greatest current influence has been a lady
on the team of my marketing & strategy
mentors, Alexandra Cownie.
What would you say is your greatest
professional accomplishment to date?
I’ve had a pretty long career in the
performing arts, first as a dancer, then a
musical theatre artist and now a singer, and
there’s my time with the Artz Collective.
There I get a chance to pass on my
heritage, both of teaching & also of my
performance experience.
I have had so many wonderful experiences,
it doesn’t have much to do with size of the
production – I loved being on a big
national tour like the 10th Anniversary
national tour of Les Miserables, yet I loved
playing the scary Queen Ursula in Disney’s
Singalong Tours in South East Asia – which
was a little like giant rock concerts for 3-
7yr olds! I did totally love a national tour I
did for a couple of years of a four woman
comedy musical, titled “Motherhood the
Musical” as I created the role of “Brooke”
for the first time, and you have so much
input into the show when you create a role,
which is always special.
Interview
W I T H Z I G G Y C L E M E N T S
What’s the best advice you have
received in business that you
wish to pass on to our readers?
"Giant heart and a
mammoth dose of “stickability”
and flexibility."
That not everyone is for you.
Dig deep to find out why you
are doing what you do, cement
those values you hold fast too
& cannot run a business
without, & that’s what your
point of difference is.
More than likely it might be so
natural to you that you can’t
even see what it is until you
run it past someone, so you
may not even be promoting it,
because you don’t really, have
it clearly defined in your head,
let alone in copy/words.
Are there any resources or tools
you’d like to share with other
small business owners that
have helped you run your
business?
I think Meet Edgar is a
terrifically helpful app to save
time in posting on social media.
The One Thing – A new app to
help you “get the big stuff
done”
What would you say are the top
three skills needed to be a
successful woman in business?
A really thick skin combined
with a giant heart and a
mammoth dose of “stick-ability”
and flexibility.
What has been the most
effective marketing initiatives or
programs you have used to
promote your business?
Now, I find that word of mouth
is our primary driver for new
clients & my mantra is to really
work so hard on delivering
amazing value to back up our
teachers in their class delivery
& educational curriculum so
that our value is outstanding.
We started a while back, and
initially, school newsletters
were great, but reaching people
has now come so far since then.
You need to look at your market
and think about where they read
about things, and pop your
business right there, into their
life!
What I have learned about
myself, is that I like to give our
families a terrific experience,
and let them do the talking, I
find it hard to talk about myself
or what I’ve done & how great
we are etc, so for me it’s more
authentic to let the families
share their experiences with
others, and to give them an
opportunity to do that and bring
their friends along.
What book has inspired you the
most?
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective
People: Powerful Lessons in
Personal Change - Steven Covey
What is one thing have you
learned as a small business
owner that has served you well
over the years?
I read “The Creative Power of
Frustration” quite early on, and it
was really helpful at that time –
now I would recommend
different books, and now the
biggest takeaway I have is that
being in business can be isolating
– but don’t make the mistake of
going it alone, it’s awfully
difficult, I know because I’ve
done it. Find a businesswoman
friend who gets you & sticks to
her & your “ business girl-gang”
like glue!
Especially in the world of
performing arts studio ownership,
you can really feel like there’s
no-one else in your boat who
understands at all. Get yourself
into a community and groups
where you feel safe and
supported and get out and talk to
people in the business. The new
book I love is called, “The One
Thing”.
The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly
Simple Truth Behind
Extraordinary Results
Singalong Tours in South East Asia – which
was a little like giant rock concerts for 3-
7yr olds! I did totally love a national tour I
did for a couple of years of a four woman
comedy musical, titled “Motherhood the
Musical” as I created the role of “Brooke”
for the first time, and you have so much
input into the show when you create a role,
which is always special.
Why and when did you start your own
business?
The Artz Collective was formed in 2000,
however as a professional performer, I would
say I’ve been running my business as my
personal brand and a professional performing
arts contractor since I was 13yrs old, really. (It
sounds strange but that’s when I started
getting paid for dance, acting and singing
jobs).
What does being a business owner mean to
you?
It’s about helping others to reach their goals
whilst you work toward your own. I think of it
as a way to give back & pursue my creative
passion of the performing arts & passing on
my performing and teaching heritage, I guess
it’s a legacy I can leave behind, and it means I
can design my life a little easier than with
someone else telling me where and when I
have to work to a point – however, that’s not
always the case.
"
I’ve had a pretty long career in
the performing arts, first as a
dancer, then a musical theatre
artist and now a singer".
GET YOUR
PAYROLL RIGHT
EVERY TIME
BY KAREN KENNEDY, DIRECTOR
OF BOOKIT BOOKKEEPING
Payroll seems pretty straightforward: you have
staff, they work, you pay them what they’re owed,
and you pay them on time. It’s how I run my
business.
And yet, there are so many stories in the media
about businesses being pulled up for getting it
wrong. This year alone, there have been countless
reports about hospitality staff being underpaid by
their employers, with headlines like:
• Don't offer staff free lunch: Underpayment claims
at Melbourne cafe Barry prompt legal warning for
SMEs
• George Calombaris' restaurant's underpaid staff
$2.6 million.
• Former cafe manager fined $27,000 for
underpayments after the court found he was seeing
what he could "get away" with.
But it’s not just the hospitality industry. Payroll
issues happen in every industry:
• Australian franchise operators warned after
swimming school admits to $1.4 million in staff
underpayments
• Shark Tank-backed Her Fashion Box to face court
over allegations of staff underpayments, unpaid
internships
As an issue that impacts whether or not someone
can pay their bills, why do employers get it wrong?

As you can see from one of those news
stories, some business owners shouldn’t
have a business if they’re not prepared
to pay staff correctly. But most
employers simply believe that they
haven’t done anything wrong, like
trading food for pay. In fact, they think
they’re doing the best they can for their
employees.
But their best isn’t what’s legal.
The legislation behind employment and
payroll is massively complex, and most
business owners don’t have the time to
sit down and interpret all the conditions
in an employee’s award. It only takes
one error to create a cascading list of
payroll problems, including
underpayments. It takes far longer to fix
it.
The hospitality industry has the most
challenges when it comes to payroll
because they have some of the most
complicated employment needs:
employment types, industry awards,
penalty rates, and not to mention staff
that work outside of normal business
hours. It’s not surprising that so many
cafes and restaurants end up with
underpayment issues.
Whether intentional or not, the
consequences of a payroll mistake can
be far-reaching and devastating for your
business. You could be subject to an
investigation, which could lead to a
number of possible outcomes, including
paying the money owing, paying a heavy
fine, going to court, and even ongoing
financial audits to ensure you stay
compliant. Not every business comes
back from such scrutiny.
So instead of hoping you’re getting it
right, here are ways you can make sure
it’s never wrong.
WHAT’S LEGAL."
KNOW YOUR OBLIGATION
The best place to go is the FairWork website. It covers everything from hiring
employees to pay and leave. They have resources and guides, and just
launched their Small Business site, which contains short courses to help you
understand your obligations.
GET BOOKKEEPING
SOFTWARE
No more notes on paper. Put away the spreadsheets. The easiest and most
simple way to make sure your staff are paid correctly (wages, super, tax) is
by using bookkeeping software (we like Xero). Set this up correctly and
you’ll never worry about underpayments again.
HAND IT
OVER
What do you do when you don’t know how to
do something? You either spend a lot of time
learning how to do it, or you find someone who
does.
Bookkeepers like us are your best friends when
it comes to payroll. While you focus on your
business, we keep on top of all the rules,
legislation and changes around employment
and payroll, keeping your business fully
compliant. (Hot tip: make sure your bookkeeper
is a registered Tax Agent. Otherwise, you could
be looking at a whole different sort of trouble.)
As an employer, you need to be across your
obligations around payroll and employees.
Doing it the right way from the start will save
you from becoming another news story in the
pile. If you want to really do it properly and
never worry once whether it’s right, get a
bookkeeper.
THE KEY TO SUSTAINABLE
CONSISTENCY IN BUSINESS
W I T H O U R B E A T R I Z G U E V A R A F R O M C O L A B O R A
- C O L L A B O R A T I O N F O R S U C C E S S
What is sustainable
consistency?
I think is fair to start by clarifying what I
mean by SUSTAINABLE CONSISTENCY. To
me, it is all the actions, behaviours, habits,
practices, strategies you adopt or apply in
your business. These are ALIGNED with who
you are, your values and your own reality. In
other words, it is the key to steady progress
and solid business foundations because
CONSISTENCY drives progress and
SUSTAINABILITY makes steady progress
possible.
Interestingly, in my experience as
mastermind facilitator and been a business
owner myself, consistency is one of the most
common challenges we face when we work
as solopreneurs. That is not really a surprise
when you try to implement all of the
mismatched, unaligned advice and endless
list of SHOULDs and SHOULDN’Ts from some
business guru you follow on social media.
How can you be consistent when what you
are doing doesn’t even sit right with you?
PAGE 27 | CONSISTENCY IN BUSINESS

O F S U C C E S S
The trust is that it is really hard to stay
consistent when you follow someone else's
success formula that doesn’t really align with
your reality, your values, your vision and your
own definition of success. We are all
different, our circumstances are different, our
priorities are different, our businesses are
different, our why is different.
U N I Q U E T O E A C H I N D I V I D U A L
A N D B U S I N E S S
To me, that means there is no such thing as a
universal success formula. Instead, there is a
success formula that is unique to each
individual and business. In fact, I call that
formula YOUR WAY because it is the one that
works for you, your own reality, your particular
circumstances, your values and your own
definition of success.
Understanding the power of YOUR WAY as your
own success formula is really the first step to
achieve SUSTAINABLE CONSISTENCY in
business.
N O M A D I C | 2 4

Why?
Because when you are pushed
instead of pulled to do something,
the changes you implement and the
actions that you take are very
difficult to sustain overtime.
Because when you identify business
practices and strategies that really
align with who you are, your values,
your business vision], you don’t
need to push or hustle, everything
just FLOWS more easily.
In other words, creating and
embracing your own success
formula
YOUR WAY – helps you identify the
SUSTAINABLE practices and take the
CONSISTENT action you need to
make the steady progress in your
business.
Stay
organised
and
remove
clutter.
Written by Carmel Bond
Personal and Executive Assistants
(well…any assistant really) knows too
well that to do lists and notes are
either on the notepad or post-it-note
in front of them scattered all over the
desk. It gets messy, cluttered and
although the ultimate goal is to be
organised, its actually very
unorganised.
Keeping up with technology, you make
the decision to go online with your
notes and tasks. But which software is
best for you? If you Google ‘to do list’,
for example, you’ll be inundated with
apps that can help solve the problem.
But when here are so many, which one
do you choose?
P A G E 3 2 | C A R M E L B O N D

19
Here’s a quick run down of my top 3 tools
to help you stay organised.
Asana is the easiest way for teams to
plan, organize, and track their work.
Working with teams can be difficult if
you’re relying on others to get back to you
with updates. Using Asana, you can add a
task, make someone accountable for it
and get instant updates when the task is
done. With the ability to create projects
and teams, you can set due dates, request
updates and get real time alerts. Asana
makes working with a team very simple
and productive.
Asana is my top pick for anyone looking to
move their To Do List from desk to device.
I Done This helps track your own progress,
understand what your team is working on
and stay in sync.
If you work for someone who is constantly
travelling or hard to catch, or in a team
with members in different locations,
IDoneThis is a great tool to keep everyone
updated. At the end of your day, you
simply add what you completed or what
you’ve been working on and the
recipient(s) will be updated with your
progress.
IDoneThis is my top pick for summarising
my progress of work to my team per day.
P A G E 3 3 | W B S O C I E T Y . C O M

Microsoft OneNote captures your thoughts, discoveries, and ideas
and simplify overwhelming planning moments in your life with your
very own digital notebook.
For anyone who uses a notebook, MS OneNote is exactly that, only
online. You can share it with your team or just use it for yourself.
Whichever you prefer its great for keeping all your notes in the one
place. You can create books for different workplaces or projects and
then create pages within the books. Some companies use it to house
their workplace passwords (of course doing this you must secure the
page) and others use it for the different people they work for.
MS OneNote is my top pick for keeping your notes in the one place
and sharing if need be.
So there you have it. Those are my top picks. What are yours?
TO WAKE UP YOUR
TIPS
EACH AND EVERY
BRAIN
MORNING.
1. REMEMBER TO
WRITE DOWN YOUR
DREAMS
Happiness
Carolyn is a Kinesiologist, and owner and
founder of EmpowerKin Kinesiology.
Carolyn King is on a mission to help people find
real and lasting happiness and is especially
passionate about helping those that have hit
their rock bottom.
If this has been an issue for you, begin by
setting the intention that you want to
remember your dreams at night and then
before you get out of bed in the morning,
spend a few minutes waking up. Our dreams
can often offer us insights into something we
are working on or inspiration for a new
project.
P A G E 4 2 | W A K E U P Y O U R B R A I N

2 . M A K E Y O U R B E D
Making your bed, is a great way to start the day. Firstly you get to start the day with
a win (if you do it correctly) and secondly you get to sleep in a nicely made bed when
you go to sleep at night! Who doesn’t want that!
3 . B R U S H Y O U R T E E T H W I T H Y O U R
O P P O S I T E H A N D
OK, so you may be asking why? It’s because anything we do that is outside our
normal habits helps to create new pathways in our brain increasing our ability to
think more creatively and productively.

4 . D R I N K A B I G
G L A S S O F W A T E R
We sweat quite a bit at night and can
become dehydrated. Having a glass of
water helps kick-start our whole body, not
to mention our brains.
5 . E X E R C I S E
Get out of bed and move. Movement
increases the blood flow to our whole
body and especially to our brains. If you
don’t have any exercise equipment at
home, just walk up and down the hallway
for about 10 minutes. You can add in
other things like walking lunges or
skipping. The biggest thing here is to
actually move!
6 . H A V E A C O L D
S H O W E R
OK, so that sounds a bit arghhhhhhh, but
a cold burst of water in the morning helps
to not only wake up every cell but also
helps to decrease any inflammation which
is the cause of most diseases.

7 . H A V E A
N U T R I T I O U S
B R E A K F A S T
Ensure that you feed your brain in the
morning. A cup of coffee is not brain
food. While it may “wake you up” it does
not offer any real nutrients to your body
or your brain. Try a green smoothie with
protein instead.
8 . M E D I T A T E O R
M I N D F U L N E S S
Spend at least 5 minutes just breathing
and preparing yourself for the day. It
could be a quick 5 minute meditation or
just listening to your breath. Whatever it
is, that 5 minutes will help prepare you to
“respond” during the day instead of
“reacting”.
So there are my 8 tips to wake up your brain
each and every day! Give them a go and see
how your creativity and productivity
increases as well as your ability to respond
to what life is giving you.

What are Essential Oils?
USING ESSENTIAL
OILS FOR YOUR
FOOD
PREPARATION!
Essential oils are
naturally occurring,
volatile aromatic
compounds that are found
in the seeds, bark, stems,
roots, flowers, fruit, resin
and other parts of plants.
Some plants will produce
no essential oils, whilst
others such as coriander
will provide essential oil
from both the leaves and
the root, both containing
different constituents
and therefore provide
different tastes, smell and
health benefits.
Essential Oils can be both
beautifully and powerfully
fragrant.
They are what gives the
plants their distinctive
smells. But much more
than that it is their
essential oils that protect
the plant and plays a role
in plant pollination.
It is this beauty of the
fragrance, the sublime
flavour and their
protective ability that has
led to their use in
perfume and beauty
treatments, for food
preparation, and for
supporting wellness.
a WOW Add
to your factor
There are many ways that you can use
your essential oils. I’m a bit unusual as
the first way that I used my doTERRA
essential oils was in food preparation. I
food!
love to try the ingestible ones in all
sorts of recipes as they really have the
most magnificent flavour.
Many people believe that using
essential oils in cooking is a relatively
new idea. In fact, there are thousands of
food products that use essential oils for
aroma and flavour, and when you are
using lemon rind in your cooking it is
the flavour of the essential oil that you
are using. So, you are ingesting tiny
amounts of essential oils all the time.
When using the highest quality essential
oils in food not only do you get the
beautiful flavour, you also obtain the
healthful benefits from that plant.
Keep in mind, however, that not all
essential oils are created equally - if an
oil is not specifically marked as safe for
consumption - don't use it. Ensure that
you use the best, most pure ingredients
at all times!
Within the brand that I partner with,
doTERRA, there is a long list of
essential oils for gastronomic
experimentation.
The Mint
The Citrus
This includes Peppermint and
Spearmint. I like to use
Family
peppermint
in drinks and desserts. I make a
very popular Cacao Peppermint
Bliss Ball, and I have also added it
in the salad dressing for Zucchini
Salad and a sauce for Lamb.
Lemon, Lime, Wild Orange,
Bergamot, Grapefruit,
Family
Tangerine
are in this family. The ways to use
citrus in food and beverage feels
like it is endless. The easiest and a
really beautiful way to use them is
simply adding a drop to a glass of
water or a water bottle. Use them
in desserts; my Jaffa Bliss balls
are always a hit. Add it to hommus
or use it in a simple dressing.
Citrus essential oil can be used in
any recipe that requires citrus zest
or juice. Citrus Essential Oil is
probably the best place to start for
food preparation, as they are not
one of the strong oils.

The Spice
Family
Who doesn’t like a good spice in
your food? The problem with spice
from the supermarket, is that
you purchase them pop them in
your pantry and the potency and
flavour diminishes over time - it is
likely to be several months old by
the time you purchase it. Essential
oil spices hold their potency for
years. This family includes Black
Pepper, Cassia, Cinnamon, Clove,
Coriander, Ginger, &
Fennel.
I love using these in food. The
inclusion of Coriander makes a
beautiful Asian dressing or add
it with ginger to a Dahl at the end
of cooking and stir through. Add
cinnamon when making raw
chocolate.
So many possibilities!
Herb The
Family
Included in this family is Basil,
Coriander (Cilantro), Marjoram,
Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme and
just like the spices they hold their
flavour and potency way longer
than the dried form.
Use them in any recipe that calls
for the dry or fresh herbs. Basil
and Oregano in Italian dishes,
Coriander in Asian
inspired dishes. Rosemary in your
baked potatoes or meat marinade.
And of course, add them for a
flavourful punch to soups.

The Floral
Family
Yes it’s true - you can add
Lavender essential oil to your
food!
It’s divine in Lavender Panna
Cotta or add it to cream with a
little honey.

The Way to
Start
Start with substituting dried herbs
for essential oils in recipes that
call for dried herbs, spices, fruit
juices or zest.
The most important thing you need
to remember is that doTERRA
essential oils are undiluted and
Potency
purely extracted, as such they are
extremely potent; they are far
stronger than any other ingredient
you’ve ever used in the kitchen
before.
Simply replace these ingredients
with the equivalent
essential oil (and add some water
if the recipe requires juice) to
ensure the right consistency.
One drop may be enough to
adequately flavour a big pot or
bowl of your favourite recipe,
particularly in strong oils such as
Cassia, Cinnamon, Clove, Cumin,
Thyme, and Oregano. These oils
are quite potent - a little goes a
long way!
I recommend
you start your essential oil food
preparation journey with a less
potent essential oil such as one of
the citruses.
Top Tips
Always, start off using a single
drop, so as to not waste your
essential oil and spoil the dish.
You can
always add another drop if
needed, but you can’t take it out.
Essential oils are best not heated
so add the essential oil right
before serving to ensure you gain
the
most health benefits.
Would you like to know more about
adding some Wow to your food and
receiving some healthful
benefits at the same time?
There’s lots more that I’d l love to
tell you, and help you start your
Essential Oil Journey.
