Please introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Edwin Delarosa, I’ve been using the moniker of rusty_yokes for tattooing
and now this Anime project. I’ve been involved with tattooing for
about 7 years now and watching anime for even longer so it seemed fitting.
What is the reason behind this particular anime project?
This project is still fairly new, I started this in February of this year and the more I delve into this project the more reasons
I find to do it. Initially it was me trying to relieve some stress by drawing some of my favorite childhood characters
and the nostalgia of it motivated me to share that with anyone who has the same interests.
How long have you been drawing anime characters?
Anime was the first thing I remember drawing consistently as a kid. I wasted a lot of paper drawing Future Trunks, it
was a daily thing. Of course over time I strayed away from drawing anime but coming back to it after so many years
has been so fun.
Have you been commissioned to do any murals of these characters?
A majority of the work I’ve done has been commission based. No murals yet, but that would be amazing. I think this
project resonates with people because it brings them back to specific parts of their childhood. One of the cooler things
about this experience has been people telling me about all the things they remember when they first saw a scene of a
show or movie. It’s been really interesting.
Are we able to find any of your work in art galleries?
At the moment no but I was fortunate enough to be a part of an art show last month where I showcased this project. It
was a great experience and it pushes me to do more shows so that’s something that I will be focusing on more.
I would love to have a table book of your artwork. Is that available, or will it be in the future?
I would love to have a book or collection of work that can be shared on a larger scale. I can say that’s a goal I’d like to
cross off the list.
What inspires you to draw and create such detailed visual images?
A lot of it comes from the love I have for these shows and characters. Especially if it’s a memorable or iconic scene,
there is a pressure to take these images and translate them into tattoo designs but still keep the essence of the original
source. It makes the end result a lot more satisfying when it comes out well.
How important is social media to you as an artist?
Social Media has become very important to me as an artist. At first I didn’t see it that way but Instagram has helped
me so much as an artist. Aside from having a solid support system for your craft there’s so much inspiration and great
work being shared. It’s a tool I feel all artist should embrace.
Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
There’s so much that can be said but I tell people to always believe in what they create, learn from everything you create
and lastly to be open for improvement no matter what direction your art takes you.
