10 QUESTIONS
WITH VIC
By Vic Gerami
CHRISTOPHER CICCONE
“Artist” is a simple, but not
a simplistic way to describe
Christopher Ciccone whose
diverse and impressive body
of work is forever embedded
in brick & mortar, canvas,
print, video and pop culture
consciousness. The title of
“Renaissance Man” is apropos
for this creative maestro of
Italian descent, whose roots go
deep in the American Mid-West.
Modesty aside, how would you
describe yourself?
STATUES OF ART HISTORY
OR HONORING RACISM AND
SLAVERY?
AdamsArtExpose’
AdamsArtExpose’ ART
With the current news filled with
commentaries and documentaries
regarding the shameful demonstration of
racism and hate from the Charlottesville,
North Carolina demonstration on August
11, 2017 the questions are arising of what
to do with the controversial Civil War
statues throughout the U.S. Allegedly
the demonstration in Charlottesville was
instigated by the removal of a statue of
Robert E. Lee from the city center. The
vehemence of the White Supremists that
caused the deaths of 3 people and major
injuries to several others. Donald Trump
excused the violence as "There are good
people on both sides".
Although the question of saving the
Robert E. Lee statue was used as the
primary excuse by the supremacist
group, the larger question is, should
continuing the justification of slavery,
lynching, and inhumane behavior toward
people be commemorated?
The question of what to do with the
hundreds of statues commemorating
the Civil War, primarily generals, and
soldiers of the Confederate Army, should
be destroyed, preserved in art museums,
or left as discussion points in public
displays where they are currently placed?
University of Virginia professor, Louis
P. Nelson, suggested, "Such statues
cannot stand alone in the middle of a
square with azaleas. I have argued that
we need to transform these open spaces
into open-air museums, where we can
learn about the simultaneous histories of
lynching, Confederate monuments and
Jim Crow policies. These are powerful
objects, so they will need powerful
recontextualization.... They need to
become a catalyst for conversations as
objects in a museum might."
These questions of what to do with Civil
War statues will continue to be debated.
Now that racism and xenophobia and the
quotes of our President, "Get them out
of here", are being supported by some,
perhaps the use of three-dimensional art
pieces can stimulate conversation about
the responsibility of each of us toward the
civil and humane treatment toward our
neighbors and fellow humans.
Fabeyonce “Yo MaMa”
And I'm talking about mine. Years ago, I got
turned in to RuPaul's Drag Race. It was a
show like no other, I was amazed by all these
amazing Queens, who literally paved the way
for many of us and showed us that it is ok to be
proud of who you are.
I looked up to many queens, Morgan
McMichael's, Delta Work, Mayhem Miller
Shannel, Jessica Wild, Ongina, etc the list goes
on watching these ladies work the stage having
us, the viewers, on our toes (who's gonna
win, who's gonna win) and them having the
opportunity to work with the main mother
herself, miss RuPaul.
We can only hope for something amazing to
happen to one of us and by that, I mean, as
a local girl I find myself working harder and
harder to be the best I can. Recently I got
offered to work with Morgan McMichael's at
Toucans Tiki Lounge in Palm Springs.
I jumped on the opportunity to perform
there, then she offered me a spot to perform at
her show in Ontario at Hamburger Mary's. I
absolutely jumped on it.
Working hard and being honest and true to
who I am, I worked for some and Morgan
McMichael's spoke to me about some stuff
and I ended becoming her Daughter (can you
freaking believe it?).
something good happens to one, but we can
only learn and move on. This is amazing and
can't wait to see what's in store for the future.
I'm gonna continue to work hard and push
myself and make sure the name goes noticed.
Working with my motha is soo much fun and
to be honest, I would never be this far in if
it wasn't for miss Jazmyn Simone, a special
shout out to her for keeping me on my toes
and the advice given. When working the stage
with Morgan, the energy is so wild and like a
jolt of energy shot right threw me. If I didn't
do a death drop before, I sure as hell did one
now (that's not ever gonna happen). This is
something I dreamt of since I started. I had a
drag mother previously, but it didn't work out,
not gonna shame her but it wasn't a match.
So far, I'm having the time of my life and
working harder than ever. Time for new looks,
new music, new me, please make sure to keep
up and see where I'll be next. Please make sure
to follow me on social media Instagram under
fabeyonce and Facebook under fabeyonce
Also, please message me if you'd like my
thoughts on anything you have to say thank
you all for reading until next week.
Love Fabeyonce McMichael's
I died a few times and pinched myself, “Is this
really happening?”. I wasn't sure if I was drunk,
but I hadn't had anything to drink, I said “Yes,
I'd love to be a McMichael’s”.
Since taking in the name, lots of things
changed for me. People especially, but that's
ok. 32 Everyone's The true original colors Gay shine Desert through Daily when Guide. View our Free Digital Version on-line.

It’s not in my nature to put
modesty aside…. however, I
shall try. I am an artist in
everything I do. Whether it’s
interior design, art, writing,
photography or directing. I live
and breathe my need to create
and have been fortunate enough
to have clients who desire my
skills.
You have traveled the world
many times over, how is West
Hollywood / Los Angeles different
than other major cities?
WeHo and LA are not very different
from other cities…however,
if you travel to a place
like Cleveland you will find that
walking down the city streets
in the afternoon doesn’t leave
you with the feeling that everyone
behind you is in a rush to
get to some function that they
think they have missed. And no
doubt they have.
You’re a true Renaissance Man
with great accomplishments
as an artist, designer, director,
author and much more. At
this point, what excites you the
most?
My inspiration and excitement
come from being a part of the
reinvention or restoration of a
city like Detroit or Cleveland….
I want to be where the action
is…. not where every design
project is one cookie cutter after
the other…LA has lost is architectural
interest to me.
Biggest pet peeve?
Making dinner for friends and
having them so focused on their
phones that I could serve dog
shit for dinner and they would
never notice…. also, people who
don’t use their turn blinkers.
Favorite vacation spot?
My parent’s vineyard .... Ciccone
Vineyards in Suttons Bay,
Michigan.
Biggest turn-on?
My biggest turn on is a man
with honor, without it you might
as well check out of the human
race.
What living person in our community
do you most admire?
I admire the youngsters in our
community struggling to find
their way…. whatever that might
be….and I admire the people of
my generation that give them a
helping hand in search of those
dreams.
What are some elements that
draw you to a new creative venture?
Life and all that comes with it….
What exciting project(s) or event
do you have coming up?
I am off to Detroit and Cleveland
to be a part of the restoration of
these 2 great cities…it’s exciting
and I am so very grateful to be a
part of it.
Tell me a secret
I have 2 left feet and I love pickles.
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Tonight, I went to see Black Klansman. What a
powerful film. It brought back memories from
growing up in a mixed-race city, race riots at
school, campus shutdowns, blacks kept out of
programs at my church. Gave me a wide range
of feelings and emotions.
One of the most disturbing messages that hit
me hard was how little progress we have made
as a society – no matter how we try to say it
differently. To sit and listen to the KKK Grand
Wizard, David Duke< say “it’s time to Make
America Great Again” gave me chills. And so
many other comments throughout the movie
that could have been said AND are being said
today. Visually it was driven home by footage
of last year’s white supremacist march in
Charlottesville that killed a young woman, and
verbally most every time the President opens
his mouth.
We deluded ourselves when we elected a
black President 10 years ago, but our societal
prejudice roared back two years again with the
election of Donald Trump.
Also, this week we learned more about the
illegal activities of Paul Manafort. Tens of
millions of dollars traded hands between the
Ukraine and Manafort. Tax evasion, hiding
financial transactions and more. It sure doesn’t
seem like much of a debate if he is guilty. The
only real question is how long he will serve in
prison. And the grand jury continues to take
testimony!
This Administration is rapidly becoming the
most corrupt in our nation’s history. Sad and
disappointing how low our leader’s ethics are
but even more so how little we demand that
they be cleaned up.
Omarosa Manigault Newman, former White
House official has a new book just out that
documents the President as a “racist, bigot and
misogynist”. She also claims to have the names
of illegitimate children she claims Trump has
fathered. Between Manafort and Omarosa,
there will be no space for other news for weeks.
So glad we continue to be an example for the
rest of the world.
Closer to home we have our own elections
coming up. Filing has closed in every city for
the November vote. Next week I hope to tell
you who each of the candidate from each city.
As we get closer to November I will give you my
opinion of who to vote for on the state ballot
and the local ballot.
Also, soon after the mid-term congressional
elections candidates for President will begin to
announce. I am leaving the 21st of this month
for Chicago to attend the summer meeting of
the Democratic National Committee. I expect
lots of news to come from that.
85 days until the election. We all must get
involved. Register. Rise up! RESIST!
Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman
in Cathedral City. He has made his name
in governmental circles as an expert in
transportation issues and is very active in
working on bringing passenger rail service
to the COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the
first openly gay elected city council members
In Riverside County. He has served
on the boards of the National League of
Cities and the League of California Cities
and as President of the Southern CA
Association of Governments.
